The five key takeaways from the pod this week after a few cheeky beers and bit of rugby banter…1. Bears suffered an "absolute shellacking," losing 50-17 after falling 31-0 down by halftime, though the lads accept that Saracens' performance was "outstanding" and they probably would have beaten any team in the league it was that good.2. The Bears just couldn't convert any of pressure that they did create struggling with red zone efficiency and only scoring only 17 points from 12 entries into the 22 despite having 62% possession and 57% territory overall. Was it case of Sarries been too good or Bears making too many mistakes? As always, it was probably a ‘bit of both' erring on the side of Sarries being too good.3. The defeat highlighted the risk of starting the season with the smallest squad in the premiership, and this has unfortunately been exposed by an unprecedented number of early-season injuries to key players in key positions. The medical boys have definitely got their work cut out.4. A massive positive, however, was the team's second-half resilience exemplified by Kieran Marmion's standout performance. He was the best Bears player on the pitch and scored a quality hat-trick.5. We need a "bounce back" performance against Exeter Chiefs, with the lads highlighting the return of key personnel, including Fitz Harding and Ellis Genge, Santi Grindona, Pedro Rubiolio and Benjamin Elizadlde to reinforce the squad.Let us know what you think!

Firstly an apology as we have decided to leave a lot more of the swearing in this weeks pod, but we are sure you understand why. Gloucester lose another league game, this time to Exeter Chiefs, but it was the manner of the defeat and the apparent contempt shown to the Season ticket holders that grates most. Four very angry Cherry Jammers discuss the match, the atmosphere at Kingsholm, where this leaves George Skivington and whether a defeat to Benetton would spell the end of his now 91 league game tenure. We also try to lighten the mood by chatting through a great win for Glos-Hartpury in the 3rd/4th playoff of the Allianz Cup; another Grand-Slam for the Red Roses and what Billy Vunipola gets up to on a night out in Majorca. Great chat with Tom who had a class career on the pitch, and he's forging a new career off it too. We could have sat for hours putting the world to rights around a load of subjects. It was great to get an understanding on Tom's journey, his mindset, and how he approaches life's challenges. Plenty of highs but also some serious lows too which he wasn't afraid to touch on. Top player and a better bloke!

Colonial echoes in sport and the environment – time to decolonise and degrow?

The convergence of sport, decoloniality, and the environment presents a labyrinth of intricate ideas, and as we delve into their interconnectedness, the complexity deepens.Joining us on this informative journey is Samuel Clevenger, an Assistant Professor at Towson University in the USA, who has been trying to unpack some of this intersection. We start with the radical concept of decoloniality—an evolution beyond mere decolonisation. Through philosophical references and anecdotes, we raise instances where sport has been wielded to perpetuate a Western-centric worldview, shaping notions of identity, imagery, and competition. Then, in contrast, we examine examples where Western sports were recast more in the image of the indigenous people who were pressured to play them.As we pivot to the environmental repercussions, a canvas of broader societal critiques unfurls. The discourse expands to encompass profound themes like climate justice, athlete and fan burnout, and the nuances of degrowth or post-growth.Whether you're a sports enthusiast, an environmental advocate, or simply curious about the multifaceted connections between these realms, there are undoubtedly ideas in this episode of interest to you.Support the showPlease feel free to reach out to the show onWeb: sustainingsport.comInstagram: @sustainingsportLinkedin: /sustaining-sportFacebook: @sustainingsportTwitter: @SustainSportPodDonate to our patreon.com/sustainingsportor contact us at: benmole@sustainingsport.com

WRP 154 - Chiefs at The Circus! We are down to the final two in England, Gloucester-Hartpury - known as the Circus - and Exeter Chiefs. The Premier XV final being played at Kingsholm (the home ground for Gloucester-Hartpury has been turned into "Queensholm," for what promises to be an epic final, in front of a record crowd. Gloucester-Hartpury have topped the table most of the season and came through a tough semi final against Bristol but this is their first ever final, we speak to cherry and white legend, Kelly Smith. The prolific winger, out with an injury, provides a unique prospective, being that little bit removed, on the squad and team, their approach this week, what part she plays in the Circus, the key cogs in the machinery and the boss. But also why this season the club, this season, seems to have found consistently high performances and winning performances. In the blue corner, Poppy Leitch, been at Exeter Chiefs since the beginning and such has been her level of play, she was called into the Red Roses squad earlier this year. The "heartbeat" of this side speaks so eloquently about what makes The Chiefs, The Chiefs, from the early days with electric heater to finals with record crowds. The flanker come second row speaks of the battles, as a team but also as an individual within the final dance and the value she puts on being a finalist before. History beckons for one of them! Plus, as ever, there's all the international news, including European 7s, Fiji squad, WXV venues and Brazil bossing 7s in South America. @podwomensrugby womensrugbypod@gmail.com Coming soon Hosted on Acast.
