Hello, Catholic Pilgrims. Today's letter is a continuation of what happened on October 15th.  Because I'm a history nut, you get another history lesson today. Mother Cabrini is going to describe steaming past “Fortune Island.” This is Long Cay Island located in the Bahamas. It's a tiny thing and today it only has roughly around 50 people living on it. It was named “Fortune Island” by Christopher Columbus because he found a conch shell there.  I'll link a website to Long Cay in the show notes.  Mother then describes passing another island called Castel or Castle Island. This island is directly south of Long Cay. It doesn't look inhabited today from what I can see, but it does have a lighthouse that reportedly was the hideout location of pirates looking to attack ships that passed by.  Why am I telling you all this? Well, I think it's super cool and I think it puts us back in time with her. John MacKenzie chats with Craig Crawford, State Member for Barron River, about the Double Island lease held by Benny Wu's Fortune Island Holding Company and the push to see a return of facilities and tourism infrastructure. Last year, the Queensland government applied to the Land Court to have the lease stripped from Mr. Wu's company, claiming that leasing conditions had never been met. The lease for Double Island was acquired by Fortune Island Holding Company in 2012,  making it over 20 years now that locals have been waiting for major works to begin.

On September 18, 1998, in the early stages of Typhoon Gading, a Sulpicio Lines Ferry named Princess of the Orient approached Fortune Island in the Batangas province of the Philippines. On board were 338 souls bound for Cebu, 150 of them would never make it there. What unfolded would be a series of errors made by the captain, that would doom these passengers. In our discussion, an article on Kotaku released about Treyarch and their troubled development. During Black Ops 4, a story mode was planned and they ended up canning it 8 months or so before the game released to instead develop Blackout, their Battle Royale mode. This was a big departure and now they're returning to story in 2020. Additionally, game testers had some poor working conditions and weren't treated as well as regular employees. Prior to today, it’s been a PlayStation exclusive, having only been ported to the PlayStation 4 in the years since. Since then, Supergiant released the similar cyberpunk game Transistor, and it later switched gears with a bizarre and fascinating fantasy take on basketball called Pyre. Now, the company appears to be going back to its roots. The new game is called Hades, and it looks like you’ll be fighting your way through the underworld in Transistor style. Set after the events of Far Cry 5, in which villain Joseph Seed sets off a nuclear bomb, New Dawn looks to feature a drastic change in tone and style. That’s a platform-developer combination we haven’t seen 2010’s Metroid: Other M, and it should have Marvel-loving Switch owners very excited.   0:38:55 OBISDIAN’S NEWEST GAME IS CALLED THE OUTER WORLDS The RPG legends at Obsidian Entertainment have a new game coming out called The Outer Worlds featuring intergalactic travel and all manner of sci-fi technology. Having become a major force in the genre through Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Fallout: New Vegas, and Pillars of Eternity, Obsidian has been a carrier of the traditional RPG flame for years now. Unfortunately that’s about all we know about Mortal Kombat 11, which was revealed on-stage at the awards show. But it shouldn’t be long before we find out: the game is launching on April 23rd, with a proper reveal event on January 17th.     0:45:44 A NEW DRAGON AGE IS ON THE WAY After showing off a story trailer for Anthem, BioWare made sure to let fans know that its fantasy role-playing series is still alive as well. The developer showed off the briefest of teasers for the next Dragon Age; so brief, in fact, we don’t even know the proper title or when it’s coming out.   FORTNITE HIGHLIGHTS PLAYER CREATIONS ON THE BLOCK Not content with launching a new season and a creative mode, Fortnite developer Epic also decided to change the game’s map during The Game Awards. Risky Reels is gone, replaced by a new area called The Block, which will put a spotlight on some of the best stuff players are making. JOKER IS LOOKING COOL... IN SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE Nintendo revealed the first downloadable character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and it’s a huge surprise: Joker from Persona 5. The game isn’t even available on a Nintendo platform, but that said, the slick and stylish Joker does seem like a fun addition to the lineup.
