The World of Eora: an Avowed & Pillars of Eternity Lore Podcast
I touch on Spoilers for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire around the 30min mark. Once you hear the jazz music interlude if you don't want to risk it feel free to jump off, but I try not to say anything spoilery outright, I just skirt around it as best as I can. Nextly, apologies for this episode being a week late. I've made the episode a bit longer than usual to make up for that. The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode goes over a bunch of the gameplay footage we saw about Avowed in recent weeks. I go over a lot of what it is we saw, touch on the story and characters. Read some lore directly from pieces of gear or books. I also do a speculation section at the end of the episode about why we are a Godlike, and of whom; what "The Voice" might be and how the Godless faction might have ties to an ancient civilization known, in modern times, as "Yezuha" worldofeora@gmail.com @worldofeora ko-fi.com/worldofeora

The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. Warning: Major spoilers for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire in this episode. This week's episode discusses the lost city of Ukaizo, which is an ancient city of mythology and legend in the Huana culture (the tribes that live in the Deadfire Archipelago, the setting for the second Pillars game). What Ukaizo represents to Huana (but also the other factions in play during Deadfire) is more than just a city with gold. worldofeora@gmail.com @worldofeora ko-fi.com/worldofeora

Hey hey! We're back with our second episode that we recorded at this year's GDC, and it's a doozy! In a switch from how we normally do things, we brought a grab bag of simple questions to the conference and hit up people who were free, and so y'all get to see how everyone's answers differed. In our first group, we had Ben Starr (actor, Final Fantasy XVI), Alexa Ray Corriea (senior writer at Cliffhanger Games on Black Panther), Kait Tremblay (narrative director at Soft Rains), and Kelsey Beachum (writer / narrative designer). In our second group (starting at 35:21) we had Adam Dolin (writer), Kate Dollarhyde (senior narrative designer at Obsidian Entertainment), and Kelsie Mhoon (senior narrative designer at Obsidian Entertainment on The Outer Worlds 2). Our third group (starting at 1:19:39) had Emma Kidwell (writer at Firaxis), Nessa Cannon (game writer), and Calliope Ryder (lead producer Weta Workshop on Tales of the Shire). And we closed things out (at 1:47:33) with Chandana Ekanayake (co-founder / creative director of Outerloop Games, and director of Thirsty Suitors). Topics include: hobbies that aren't related to game development, current game of the year, favorite villains / antagonists, a time you messed up and what you learned from it, how you stay positive, games you keep returning to, favorite choice you've ever made in a game, people in this industry who did something nice for you, favorite NPCs, games you're always referencing that nobody else has ever heard of, games that made you think differently about something, first game you played where the story really affected you, what you'd force devs to change during production, games you wish you'd gotten to work on, how to get team members to read documentation, something in your process that saves a ton of time, advice for people wanting to get into game narrative, and so SO much more it's kinda insane!!!Our Guests on the InternetGroup 1: Ben Starr, Alexa Ray Corriea, Kait Tremblay, Kelsey BeachumGroup 2: Adam Dolin, Kate Dollarhyde (wants you to play Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire), Kelsie Mhoon (wants you to play Jak 2)Group 3: Emma Kidwell (wants you to play Hindsight and Midnight Suns), Nessa Cannon (wants you to wishlist Star Trucker), Calliope Ryder (wants you to wishlist Tales of the Shire)Group 4: Chandana Ekanayake (wants you to play Thirsty Suitors)Stuff We Talked AboutPrince of Persia: The Lost CrownFinal Fantasy VII RebirthDave the DiverChants of SenaarGarden GalaxyAdvent RisingPrey - MooncrashPyre Original SoundtrackLonely Rolling Star - Katamari DamacyAquatic Ambiance - Donkey Kong CountryLiberi Fatali - Final Fantasy VIIITony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 creditsAnna Megill's Game Writing GuidesAdam's LLVTR game writing class is no longer being offered otherwise we'd link it :'[Packing Up the Rest of Your Stuff on the Last Day at Your Old ApartmentDredgeGrowthNina Freeman's GamesFull ThrottleBellatroA Short HikeLong Live the QueenGame Dev StoryOur theme music was composed by Isabella Ness, and our logo was created by Lily Nishita.

The World of Eora: an Avowed & Pillars of Eternity Lore Podcast
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. NOTE: there's an important question near the end of the episode (in the 44min area) that I'd like some feedback on. This week's episode was very randomly decided upon, but the bottom line is: in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire there are some sea shanties you hear sung when sailing throughout the Deadfire Archipelago (the setting for that game). While the lyrics to these songs aren't plumbing the depths of esoteric lore, they do allude to ideas and moments that occur within this fantasy world; and I think it's writing like that which really gives life to a fictional world. So, in honour of that, let's take a look at the lyrical content for the Sea Shanties from the second Pillars of Eternity game... worldofeora@gmail.com @worldofeora ko-fi.com/worldofeora

The World of Eora: an Avowed & Pillars of Eternity Lore Podcast
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy setting for the Obsidian Entertainment games: Pillars of Eternity, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, and AVOWED. Today's lore focuses on one of the unique races for Eora, the "Orlan". Which you could think of as a hairy, long-and-pointed-ear halfling, if you need a comparison; but really, as a unique fantasy race on its own, there's really no comparison. I guess you'll just have to listen to the episode to find out, eh? :) DISCLAIMER: Due to a personal scheduling confliction with when I usually record, I had to record this very early in the morning, which is why my voice is a bit different sounding. Both due to (a) morning voice, and (b) trying to maintain my vocal volume. As well, due to the remaining heat wave in our area, I had my windows open so the early morning cool air would keep my home cool. As a result, one of Hylea avian attendants sat by the open window to offer their knowledge on the World of Eora...that is to say, a morning bird was singing its song a lot (near the end of the episode). I apologize for the unprofessionalism; though I will say, the birdsong is actually a benefit, IMO. worldofeora@gmail.com @worldofeora
The World of Eora: an Avowed & Pillars of Eternity Lore Podcast
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast for Avowed & Pillars of Eternity (I & II), games developed by Obsidian Entertainment. Today's episode follows up on the previous episode about the Archmages of Eora. Here, we discuss one mage specifically: Llengrath; and even more specifically how she...he...they... are striving towards immortality. This episode contains spoilers for Llengrath's backstory, as discovered in the Forgotten Sanctum DLC in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. It is not the DLC narrative that is spoiled, only Llengrath's backstory, which you can learn about organically in-game when playing through quests.

The World of Eora: an Avowed & Pillars of Eternity Lore Podcast
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Obsidian Entertainment's original fantasy setting, EORA, used in Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, as well as their upcoming release: AVOWED. Today's episode comes nearly a week late (sorry, #NewDad), but in it we take a look at the introduction to the Deadfire Archipelago (the setting for Pillars II) as read in the official Guidebook for the game. We learn about the importance of Luminous Adra, we overview the geography of the region; as well we stop to read about some metal_AF creatures that exist in the LORE (but not necessarily the game). I wonder what, if anything, from the Deadfire will be carried over into Avowed? worldofeora@gmail.com @worldofeora

The World of Eora: an Avowed & Pillars of Eternity Lore Podcast
The World of Eora is a lore (and sometimes news) podcast about Pillars of Eternity, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, and Obisidian Entertainment's upcoming release: Avowed. All three of these games use Eora as the fantasy world they are played in. This podcast explores that world. Today we finally reach the end of our series exploring "Dyrwood", which is the setting for the first Pillars of Eternity game. There also is precedent/speculation that Avowed *could* be set in Dyrwood. Nothing definitive of course, and I know the consensus amongst many is that the game is set in the Living Lands **but** this is all still rumour, so who knows. Today's episode wraps up the Dyrwood by looking at the people, their society, the major faiths practiced, and their cultural values. After these past five episodes you can enter into the first Pillars game with a firm foundation of the game's setting. email: worldofeora@gmail.com twitter: @worldofeora website: anchor.fm/worldofeora

It’s described as “a euphoric music video dream about being awesome, riding motorcycles, skateboarding, dance battling, shooting lasers, wielding swords, and breaking hearts at 200mph.” That sounds quite promising.Image: Epic Games 0:27:24 EPIC LAUNCHES ITS STEAM COMPETITOR Epic made a big splash earlier this year when it announced it would be opening a digital storefront for PC and Mac games to compete with Valve’s Steam. Just two days later, that store is now live, with a surprise launch during the Game Awards with a slate of high-profile indie titles, including Annapurna Interactive and A44’s Ashen, old hits like Super Meat Boy, and newer titles like Darksiders 3. 0:28:45 ASHEN IS OUT NOW FOR XBOX ONE AND PC Ashen has been more than four years in the making, having first been announced as an Xbox console exclusive back in 2014. The fantasy adventure game, which looks to be inspired by Dark Souls and Team Ico classics, is from developer A45 and published by Annapurna’s game development arm. It’s out now with a surprise launch on both the Xbox One and Epic’s new game store. 0:29:25 JOURNEY MAKES ITS PC DEBUT ON EPIC’S NEW STORE Thatgamecompany’s Journey became an instant indie classic when it released on the PlayStation 3 in 2012. The game’s mystic narrative, stunning visuals, and ingenious multiplayer element that paired players with silent, anonymous strangers over the internet made it a truly transcendent experience gaming hadn’t seen before. Prior to today, it’s been a PlayStation exclusive, having only been ported to the PlayStation 4 in the years since. Now, it’s going to be available on PC for the very first time through Epic’s new store sometime next year. 0:30:22 SUPERGIANT GAMES’ NEWEST TITLE IS CALLED HADES Supergiant Giant became an indie darling with its isometric, action role-playing game Bastion, which became a huge fixture of the Xbox 360 era of indie games when it came out in 2011. Since then, Supergiant released the similar cyberpunk game Transistor, and it later switched gears with a bizarre and fascinating fantasy take on basketball called Pyre. Now, the company appears to be going back to its roots. The new game is called Hades, and it looks like you’ll be fighting your way through the underworld in Transistor style. The game is available now in early access from Epic’s game store for $19.99. 0:31:15 THE NEXT FAR CRY GAME IS A POST-APOCALYPTIC SEQUEL TO FAR CRY 5 One of the highest-profile trailers to air during the Game Awards officially took the wraps off Far Cry: New Dawn, Ubisoft’s next installment in the open-world series. Set after the events of Far Cry 5, in which villain Joseph Seed sets off a nuclear bomb, New Dawn looks to feature a drastic change in tone and style. The good news is the game is coming soon — be it comes out on February 15th for $39.99 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. 0:35:12 NINTENDO GETS A MARVEL EXCLUSIVE WITH THE BLACK ORDER The Switch’s first Marvel exclusive is a new title from Ninja Gaiden and Nioh developer Team Ninja called Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. That’s a platform-developer combination we haven’t seen 2010’s Metroid: Other M, and it should have Marvel-loving Switch owners very excited. 0:38:55 OBISDIAN’S NEWEST GAME IS CALLED THE OUTER WORLDS The RPG legends at Obsidian Entertainment have a new game coming out called The Outer Worlds featuring intergalactic travel and all manner of sci-fi technology. Having become a major force in the genre through Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Fallout: New Vegas, and Pillars of Eternity, Obsidian has been a carrier of the traditional RPG flame for years now. Now, it looks like The Outer Worlds will be all-new territory for the studio. 0:41:36 THE CREATORS OF NO MAN’S SKY HAVE A NEW GAME COMING CALLED THE LAST CAMPFIRE Developer Hello Games has been hard at work turning No Man’s Sky into one of the most ambitious and expansive exploration games ever made. But with The Last Campfire, Hello and studio head Sean Murray are taking a more intimate and carefully animated approach to storytelling, inspired by Pixar shorts. 0:43:45 MORTAL KOMBAT 11 ANNOUNCED There’s a new Mortal Kombat on the way, and it looks just as gruesome as ever. Unfortunately that’s about all we know about Mortal Kombat 11, which was revealed on-stage at the awards show. But it shouldn’t be long before we find out: the game is launching on April 23rd, with a proper reveal event on January 17th. 0:45:44 A NEW DRAGON AGE IS ON THE WAY After showing off a story trailer for Anthem, BioWare made sure to let fans know that its fantasy role-playing series is still alive as well. The developer showed off the briefest of teasers for the next Dragon Age; so brief, in fact, we don’t even know the proper title or when it’s coming out. FORTNITE HIGHLIGHTS PLAYER CREATIONS ON THE BLOCK Not content with launching a new season and a creative mode, Fortnite developer Epic also decided to change the game’s map during The Game Awards. Risky Reels is gone, replaced by a new area called The Block, which will put a spotlight on some of the best stuff players are making. JOKER IS LOOKING COOL... IN SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE Nintendo revealed the first downloadable character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and it’s a huge surprise: Joker from Persona 5. The game isn’t even available on a Nintendo platform, but that said, the slick and stylish Joker does seem like a fun addition to the lineup. At least he’ll come with some great music. 0:53:07 And The Winners ARE!!!
