In this in-depth review of Rise of the Ronin, we dive into the expansive open-world action RPG developed by Team Ninja. Set in the Bakumatsu era of Japan, the game combines historical fiction, intense samurai combat, and meaningful player choices that shape the narrative. The review covers the game's story, where players control a Ronin caught between competing factions, and its dynamic combat system inspired by Team Ninja's previous titles like Nioh. While the open world and RPG elements offer immense depth, the game is not without flaws, including pacing issues, AI quirks, and a cluttered map. Despite these, Rise of the Ronin offers an engaging and ambitious experience that stands out in the samurai genre, earning a solid 8/10 score for its immersive world, challenging combat, and player-driven narrative.

Microsoft and Xbox hit heavily in the last week with their annual Xbox Developer Direct showcasing their three known games and also announced the surprises of Ninja Gaiden 4 with Team Ninja, Koei Tecmo, and PlatinumGames, and the shadow drop of Ninja Gaiden II Black as well. Is this the best edition of the Developer Direct? How excited are Sean and Marc after seeing more on these games? Phil Spencer also did a few podcast interviews in which he both cemented and reiterated the direction of Xbox going forward, could this "everything is an Xbox" actually end up working out for the brand? And is there anything left to innovate on a console that could make the next Xbox worth purchasing? Plus, the Horizon MMO game is rumored to be canceled by NCSoft, Ted Price retires after 30 years at Insomniac Games and is replaced by three CEOs, Ubisoft has some big layoffs, Marc has impressions on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC, and much more on this big news edition of Video Games 2 the MAX!You can also watch this episode in video form on the W2M Network Youtube Channel, please give us a like, comment on the episode, and give the channel a subscribe and follow as well: https://youtube.com/live/YWMR5K8SkPoListen as a podcast and give us a review on these platforms... It was crafted by a team of ninja. There are a number of classic titles included in the Xbox Game Pass library and the "Surprise Me" button has seen fit to call upon one of those classics for this episode. Developed by Team Ninja and published by Tecmo Koei way back in 2009, this action-adventure game was originally a PS3 port of Xbox 360's Ninja Gaiden 2. While Tom is quite familiar with the game from his ancient GameStop days, it's pretty impressive that he never got around to playing it.

Hey there trophy hunters! Welcome back to another episode of TTP! Every once in a while one of those games comes along that seems to be in the zeitgeist in our community. One of those games where many people appear to be playing it, and going back to it for trophies at the same time. We've had this before with things like Battlefield 1, Rogue Company, and most notably Fall Guys. This time though, that game is Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch's 2020 Samurai open world adventure game and its attached "Legends" game mode. At the same time, one of the biggest releases of the month comes to us in the form of Rise of the Ronin, developed by Team NINJA. The funny thing is, not only do these games share a similar aesthetic due to their setting and subject matter, but the trophy lists for these games appear to follow very similar structures. Is this due to the general philosophy behind designing open world games? Or is it due more to Sony's influence acting as publisher for Rise of the Ronin this go around? In addition to Rise of the Ronin the team also looks at a gorgeous and seemingly great indie game trophy list with Planet of Lana, a game that came to Xbox and Game Pass last year but is finally migrating over to PlayStation in April. Last but not least we examine and review Alone in the Dark's trophy list. The long dormant survival horror series developed by Pieces Interactive is back, and while the reviews are varied and run the full spectrum of opinions, perhaps the most cardinal sin the game commits is that upon launch it's platinum trophy is unobtainable. All of this and more is just behind the play button, thank you so much for listening, and happy gaming! =)

Team Ninja has been busy!In the past five years, the studio released Dead or Alive 6, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Nioh 2, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Their latest game, Rise of the Ronin, compiles everything they learned into their most ambitious project: a sprawling open-world samurai adventure set in a recreation of mid-19th century Japan.Rise of the Ronin takes the “something for everyone” approach, blending the exploration and loot systems of recent Assassin's Creed games with the quick-reflex sword fighting of the studio's Nioh series. This video game smoothie is quite delicious — if you can stomach the occasional funky chunk of game mechanics. In the back half, we talk about our favorite under-appreciated open-world games. Creature Cast — The Official Console Creatures Podcast

We're kicking off the week with a special episode of CreatureCast! We're playing Team Ninja's Rise of the Ronin for review and have some early thoughts about the open-world samurai title. Rise of the Ronin is an open-world, combat-focused action RPG in Japan when significant changes unfolded. Coming off the end of a 300-year-long Edo period, known as "Bakumatsu," Rise of the Ronin is set in 19th century Japan when the country struggles against oppressive rulers and diseases plaguing the lands, with Western influence finally finding its way into the fold. Civil war continues to rage between the Tokugawa Shogunate and the Anti-Shogunate factions.  (0:00) Intro (0:50) Early Rise of the Ronin thoughts (6:06) Set up and character creation (13:12) Combat and difficulty (20:28) Open world map and exploration (25:00) Tailoring weapons and stats (30:54) Closing thoughts (33:20) Outro Website: www.consolecreatures.com Like and follow us on Social Media: Twitter: @ConsoleCreature YouTube: @ConsoleCreatures Facebook: @RealConsoleCreature Instagram: @ConsoleCreatures Threads: @consolecreatures Bluesky: @consolecreatures.bsky.social

A new State of Play presentation -- arguably the best Sony has ever executed -- has given us a plethora of items to discuss on this week's all-new episode of Sacred Symbols. For starters, we finally have a release date for the amazing-looking second party PS5 exclusive action-RPG Stellar Blade, which we cannot wait to play. We also got a lengthy glimpse at Team Ninja's Rise of the Ronin, confirmation of a near-remake of Until Dawn from Ballistic Moon, a fresh look at Death Stranding 2 en route to PS5 in 2025, and the confirmation of a new, MGS-like Kojima series, presumably on PlayStation 6 (!). And there's lots of other news, too, including the first details concerning Firesprite's upcoming title, Project Heartbreak. Likewise, MLB: The Show 24 and Horizon: Forbidden West's PC port have both been dated, obscure PlayStation vehicular combat game Hardware Rivals may be returning, classic shooter Spec Ops: The Line has been delisted, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is driving people insane, leaks indicate we'll be playing Xbox 'exclusives' on PlayStation very soon, and much more. Finally: Listener inquiries! Are recent rumors of a new Sony handheld to be believed? Have Battle Passes ruined online gaming forever? Is cross-media the future no matter how much it's resisted? Hello All! Another week, another rant, but not as heated. As you can tell by the title its about Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, and boy am I not happy. We also had a state of play from Sony, Microsoft gutted Blizzard, and Mass Effect is headed to Destiny. Meanwhile The Thunderbolts loses several stars, Supergirl is found, Denis Villeneuve has plans for Dune 3. Also, there was an issue with my microphone this week, so that will explain the poor audio quality.
