How can the World Bank play a role in attracting more private capital to address development and climate needs? That is a challenge that World Bank President Ajay Banga has prioritized and was a key discussion in Washington, D.C., last week at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings. From a Private Sector Investment Lab charged with helping the bank identify and scale what already works to a new loan guarantee platform and plans to bundle and sell some International Finance Corporation investments to private investors, changes are afoot. But there are questions about how far existing proposals go, if they will succeed, and how exactly private sector mobilization will be measured. In this podcast episode we hear from experts about how those efforts stack up and what more can be done to attract private money to these markets. We dive into what the Private Sector Investment Lab has prioritized, why mobilization efforts have been stymied, and the importance of data transparency in these discussions. Gavin Wilson, who leads DAI Capital; Nancy Lee, director for Sustainable Development Finance at the Center for Global Development; Ben Weisman, executive director of capital mobilization and public policy at the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero; and Gary Forster, CEO of Publish What You Fund share their insights.

There’s further trouble at Easter Road as Rangers lose ground in the title race – but then gain it back again. Did they score the minciest goal of the season? The season so far in the Premiership has entertained beyond all expectation and the January transfer window is following suit. The Totally Scottish Football Show is back as Andrew Slaven, Harry Slavin and JJ Bull look at the progress made in this campaign so far by each Scottish Premiership club. 1 point separates the top 3 so Rangers have gone big, signing Jermain Defoe and Jordan Jones amongst others. Will the impending departure of Jones in the summer unsettle Bret 'The Hitman' Hart’s favourite team Kilmarnock? Or will Timothy Weah, the President’s son, give the champions the advantage in the title race? Can Ross McCormack put a controversial few years behind him as he returns to Fir Park on loan? And will he fit into Motherwell’s herd of rhinos approach? The great Oldfirmfacts joins us to review Beaton Mania, and the continued fall-out from the referee’s performance in Rangers’ victory over Celtic at the end of 2018. They never sleep in the Championship, League One or League Two. The BBC’s Richard Winton tells us about the structural changes being made at Tannadice, as Dundee United strive for a way back into the big time. This was a really fun session. Paige Doratt is the sister of our own Ian Draper. Gavin Wilson is her boyfriend. Ian thought it would be a good idea to have some drinks with the two and record while doing so. He was right. This episode covers a wide range of topics and is hilarious as well. We go from Cheesesteaks, to football, to religion and alien life forms. We then get into a discussion that get really heavy about rape and what is considered rape. There is some first time confessions and a bit of emotion along with laughs the whole way through. In the lead up to 30th of September and the opening of The Phantom Art Show in Broken Hill, NSW, Dan chats with co-curators Peter Kingston and Dietmar Lederwasch. Recorded in the period between the Toowoomba and Broken Hill exhibitions, this conversation is a follow up to X-Band episode 42 when Dan, Chris, Gary and Angus reviewed the Toowoomba exhibition. These interviews offer some insight into an older generation of Phantom phans, and examines why two men would collect and commission Phantom themed artworks from some of Australia’s most renowned artists. Please note that the music used through the podcast is taken from Fanta, the short Phantom film that Peter Kingston created with Garry Shead and Gavin Wilson in the 1970s.
