Each episode, Frank will be joined by a special guest, in this case, comics writer David Gallaher, to cover characters and concepts from across DC's history. Our discussion of the given property will be married to a piece of original art commissioned by DC to spotlight the same. This time around, we chat about 2001's Golden Age Secret Files and Origins #1, by John Ostrander & Cliff Chiang, as well as a host of other talents on the main and supplemental stories. #madeonzencastr. Host Anthony Desiato and guest Mike Sangregorio dig once more into writer Grant Morrison's New 52-era ACTION COMICS run with artists Rags Morales, Brad Walker, and others. They unpack the stripped-down, unrestrained version of the character, Vyndktvx's time-bending assault across Superman's timeline, the role the Kents (and their deaths) serve, and why — as with all Morrison works — this one benefits from a patient read.Support the show and receive exclusive podcast content at Patreon.com/AnthonyDesiato, including the spinoff podcasts BEYOND METROPOLIS and DIGGING FOR JUSTICE!Visit BCW Supplies and use promo code FSP to save 10% on your next order of comics supplies. Your favorite comic book lovers are back with episode 2 of Matt and Mike Read Comics! This episode is all about the former Boy Wonder himself, Nightwing; specifically Nightwing by Peter J. Tomasi. What a weird and wild tale that Nightwing has gotten himself into with this run. Featuring outstanding art by the likes of Doug Mahnke and Rags Morales, this is a great book. We cover this and much more on our second episode.
Identity Crisis by Brad Meltzer and Rags Morales was a major superhero comic of the mid-2000s, one that left a pretty big impact in the landscape of DC Comics. It's a comic that sold very well at the time, and is still kept in print. Plenty of readers had a lot of love for this DC event back when it was new, and it still seems to have its fair share of fans even today. You can probably see where we're going with this. We don't disrespect Identity Crisis because it was popular, but we disrespect it because it's an insult to our intelligence as readers. In this episode, we break down its many faults and explain why, despite its significance, it was never anything we considered for our our top 25 DC comics list. If you have any thoughts, comments, questions, or corrections, we're here. Feel free to hit us up on our socials, or email us! We have a Linktree here: linktr.ee/betweenthegutters

Consider by many as the last modern classic DC comics story arc, Identity Crisis. Identity Crisis is a 2004 storyline written by Brad Meltzer with art by Rags Morales. Following a tragedy in the hero community, an old wound is pried open that challenges many heroes at their core, and mobilizes villains against them. This was not like other major crossover events. What made this story great was it was human. Yes, it has superhero action but that was secondary in this story. Join the IzzyVerse as we discuss this all time classic with special guest Rags Morales and Achille Yeldall. To kick off our brand new 2nd Unit series exploring films and properties lost in Development Hell, Joe uses the release of Coheed & Cambria's latest album as an excuse to talk about the lost film adaptation of their long-running sci-fi epic, The Amory Wars. What was supposed to be a major feature produced by Mark Wahlberg turned into a lot of nothing despite a built-in audience. We try to get a grasp on why this project didn't come to fruition by delving into the finer details of the world built by Claudio Sanchez through songs and comics. Joe builds on material from the albums and graphic novels, as well as interviews with Claudio and narrative breakdowns from the sadly-defunct Cobalt & Calcium fan community, while Jack tries his best to follow along and make Star Trek and Grant Morrison jokes to cling to his sanity. Which is impressive, considering he's a time traveler from 1967 whose only musical touchstones are apparently Led Zeppelin and Herb Albert & The Tijuana Brass. Pull up your Ten Speed and man your own jackhammer as we dive head-first into the well and unknowing, and Joe chuckles to himself as Jack tries to figure out what any of that means. Note: this interview took place before the sudden passing of Rag's Black Condor collaborator, Brian Augustyn.Rags Morales did not create Ragman. That we can tell you. He did, however, co-create the 90s version of Black Condor (aka the best version). He did, however, get his start on Forgotten Realms and followed that and Condor with a stint at Valiant. He did, however, then work on JSA titles like Hourman and Hawkman (with Geoff Johns), before hitting his stride with the seminal crossover whodonit Identity Crisis. So that's a lot. I think we can forgive him for not creating Ragman now. You can follow Rags on Facebook at facebook.com/ragsmorales or at ragsagainstthemachine.net. ____________________________________You can find a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.Check out and subscribe to YEET Presents on Patreon: patreon.com/yeetmagazine.Email us at dollarbinbandits@gmail.com. Capturing the Spirit of The Spirit Every year for Will Eisner Week, always the first seven days in March, the Two Guys with PhDs like to do something special and Eisner-related for the podcast. This year is no different, and for the current episode Andy and Derek have decided to discuss the many uses of The Spirit since Will Eisner's passing on January 3, 2005. And there are a lot more manifestations of The Spirit than you might think. The guys compare and contrast the various uses of this seminal crimefighter, highlighting those examples that attempt to capture the original tone of The Spirit, that deviate from the original in curious ways, and that cross over into other narrative worlds. The many titles and creators they discuss include: the one-shot Batman/The Spirit, by Joef Loeb and Darwyn Cooke in 2007 (DC Comics) the 32-issue run of The Spirit between 2007 and 2009, by Darwyn Cooke, Sergio Aragones, Mark Evanier, and many others (DC Comics) Brian Azzarello and Rags Morales's 6-issue miniseries First Wave, published between 2010 and 2011 (DC Comics) the concurrent-running The Spirit: First Wave series by Mark Schultz, David Hine, and others, going for 17 issues from 2010-2011 (DC Comics) Mark Waid's 4-issue miniseries Rocketeer/Spirit: Pulp Friction, illustrated by various artists and released in 2013 (IDW Publishing) Will Eisner's The Spirit by Matt Wagner and Dan Schkade, running for 12 issues between 2015 and 2016 (Dynamite Entertainment) the recent first issue of Francesco Francavilla's Will Eisner's The Spirit: The Corpse-Makers (Dynamite Entertainment) and Joe Staton and Mike Curtis's current Dick Tracy strip and its team-up with The Spirit (Tribune Company). There is a lot packed into this episode -- you'll hear plenty about Ebony White, Commissioner and Ellen Dolan, Silk Satin, Mister Carrion, Sand Serif, The Octopus, and, of course, P'Gell -- but, thankfully, almost no mention of the disastrous 2008 film. It's all about the comics. Check out the various The Spirit titles discussed in this special episode:
