Welcome back to Fifi Quest! Today I, an elderly woman, sit in rocking chair with the frail warmth of a shawl upon my translucent skin and spin a tale to the spritely zoomers about my days of emo in Omaha, Nebraska in the 2000's. Good gravy, I never thought I'd be looking back at the Bush years in nostalgic warmth. Also! I talk about how not only recognizing but RESPECTING old fears and beliefs are a vital step in moving past them. Thanks for watching! You haven’t seen your father in 3 years...you’ve always had a strained relationship with the man & now you have nothing at all. You hate that it’s like this. You decide to reach out to your old man, you decide you are going to tell him his son is a homosexual & that’s why you escaped to the big city as soon as you graduated high school. You anticipate a fight but it’s something you have to do. You call your father & he agrees to meet up. You meet up at a diner. Your father looks rough. You tell him you have something very important to tell him. He has something he wants to tell you too! You tell him to go first. Your father informs you he has terminal anal cancer & only a month to live. You bite your tongue; your father will go to the grave never truly having known his son. Someone plays the new episode of W3 Thr33 Tr0lls on the jukebox. You sit in silence, tears racing down your face.

This week Kyle is solo having a very intimate chat with Joe Dosch about Black Metal. They talk about the strangely universal nature of this extreme music genre. Joe chronicles his early days of discovering metal and does a pretty fantastic job explaining the appeal of extreme music. They talk about what makes a good black metal band and they explore some of the darker and more unseemly sides of the genre as well. Good lucky trying to spell most of the band names they bring up this episode, but honestly its a pretty solid primer for the uninitiated into the world of black metal. And hey, we even stay on topic for about the first hour and change. The last forty minutes Kyle and Joe totally go off topic and end up talking about life, art, politics, and in general are two friends catching up and chatting. If you don't wanna hear two guys chatting, if you bail about an hour and ten in, you should get pretty much your fill of metal. Also, this was recorded in early June and then go lost in the cracks for a few months. We are glad we are finally able to present it to you and sorry to Joe for it taking so gosh darn long. It gets Machiavellian as hell this week on People we Know as we welcome Joe Dosch back to the Woodry's Hardware Studio to talk about why the House Lannister might not be all that bad. Hint: it's all about context. And in a kinda-long intro segment, John and Andy try to get at the heart of what it means to be a good fan, and just what it is we're trying to accomplish with this podcast.
This week, we break format to have a roundtable discussion of the late James Gandolfini's legendary character, Tony Soprano.
