To anyone who finds this recording; I, David Snider, and the rest of the passengers on Spirit Airlines: Flight 32 are being held hostage! We were on our way to the Michael Bay Film Festival when our flight was hijacked by former Immortan of the Wasteland, Nick Hoof. I think we, and by we I mean the brave workers from Apocalypse Video - Ryan, Cody, and myself - will be okay; it's the other passengers on the flight that I'm worried about. Nick has said that he's going to subject us to one bad movie after another until his Immortan-hood is reinstated. And he's starting us off with Passenger 57, which if you're unaware, only holds a 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, me and my guys are used to this kind of punishment, but the rest of these people…well, I'm not sure how long they'll last. Please - give in to whatever crazy demands Nick has. I don't know how much longer we have… Thankfully, Nick has graciously allowed us to record a podcast during his hijacking. So, with that in mind… Topics of discussion in this episode include an impromptu discussion on Passenger 57 - aka: Carnival 57 (Featuring 30 minutes of Plane Footage); Ryan can't help himself from thirsting over Elizabeth Hurley; and finally, we rate John Cutter on his effectiveness as an anti-terrorism agent (Note: Getting a hostage killed within two minutes of revealing yourself is an automatic Fail). Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. You can also Follow Us on Twitter, Like Us on Facebook, or shoot us an email at apocalypsevideopod@gmail.com How do you think John Cutter ranks among the action heroes of the 90s? Let us know, we wanna hear from ya! That'll do it for this impromptu episode recorded under duress. We'll see you next time…assuming we make it out of this alive (I think I heard Nick say that Baby Geniuses is up next…God help us all!).
It's Die Hard on a plane (and a carnival)! Take your seats and buckle up as this week Phil and Liam are tackling PASSENGER 57 (1992) with the help of special guest Ronald Young, Jr, a regular contributor to NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour and the host of his own movie podcast Leaving The Theater, as well as the forthcoming Weight For It. Wesley Snipes stars as John Cutter, a former Secret Service agent turned security specialist caught up in the ruthless hijacking of a passenger plane perpetrated by Charles Rane (Bruce Payne). The guys discuss the cultural significance of this popular movie, a box office hit that effectively launched Snipes as a bona fide action star in the 1990s. It was the first of many “DIE HARD on a plane” style films, although it also made an unscheduled stopover in a product-placement littered Louisiana carnival, where Cutter encounters “on the ground racism” (to quote Ronald) courtesy of the local police, led by (Blake's father) Ernie Lively as the decidedly Dwayne T.Robinson-esque Chief Biggs. The boys break down the character of John Cutter - a haunted hero with a particular set of skills – as they track the continuing evolution of the action hero archetype, and discuss how Bruce Payne's RADA-training and stage background meant that he had a lot in common with DIE HARD's Alan Rickman. The film also features a stellar supporting cast of rising stars, including Bruce Greenwood, Elizabeth Hurley and Tom Sizemore (RIP), one of Phil's favorite actors of the era, who receives a touching tribute in light of his recent passing. This week's edition of ‘Who's Your Favorite Terrorist' requires some pretty esoteric wrestling knowledge, the ‘Die Hard Oscars' remain as controversial as ever, and the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz takes on added spice due to Ronald's wish to compete for glory with Liam! Fasten your seatbelts! Wesley Snipes is John Cutter, a security expert who has just taken a new job as the head of counter-terrorism for a major airline. It's barely the first day on the job when Charles Rane — who is definitely not insane and hijacking a plane — kills his FBI handlers and hijacks the plane. Can Cutter roundhouse kick his way out of this one? Wesley Snipes, Bruce Payne, Elizabeth Hurley, and Alex Datcher star in Passenger 57. Trailer:

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today, we try to ice skate uphill to talk about Wesley Snipes! Our Snipes B-Sides include: Boiling Point, Drop Zone, U.S. Marshals, and The Art of War. The action star broke onto the scene in the mid-80s, turned heads with Major League, then dished out a slew of hits. We discuss what makes Snipes the perfect action star, what changed for his career (good and bad) in the late ‘90s, and his recent Hollywood comeback. Additional topics include Snipes' amazing character names (Flipper Purify! John Cutter!), his multi-hyphenate accomplishments, and the high energy that often separates him from the fray. Be sure to give us a follow on Twitter and Facebook at @TFSBSide. Also enter our giveaways, get access to our private Slack channel, and support new episodes by becoming a Patreon contributor. Hello everyone and welcome to Some Like It Scott's latest limited series: Nolan Countdown. Each week in the lead up to Christopher Nolan's latest film, Tenet, the two Scotts and countdown special guest, Jay Habib, will be working their way through Christopher Nolan's full filmography in chronological order, starting from his humble beginnings making "budget" films like Following and Memento, all the way to his most recent days making mega-blockbusters like his Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, and Dunkirk. This time, Jay Habib has actually seen these films (quite a few of them, quite a few times actually), but there will be fresh takes, crazy theories, and deep conversations about one of the most interesting auteur filmmakers of this generation all along the way. Join us each week! On part 5 of the countdown, Scott, Scott, and Jay take a look back at Christopher Nolan's 2006 ~magical~ psychological thriller, The Prestige. Starring Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as two rival magicians - the more working-class Borden and the more aristocratic Angier respectively - in late-19th century London, The Prestige follows the two magicians' careers, first as fellow apprentices of John Cutter, a renowned stage ingenieur played by Michael Caine. However, when one of their usual magic tricks goes wrong, Angier's wife is unable to escape the water tank used as part of the trick and drowns. Angier blames Borden for his wife's death, as he believes Borden tied a more complicated knot around her wrists, and the two become bitter rivals. What follows is a series of escalating tricks, one-ups, and showdowns with costs and outcomes that are constantly rising, all of which leads to a finale with a twist that has come to be expected from a more experimental Nolan film, like this one. With a supporting cast of Rebecca Hall, Scarlett Johansson, David Bowie, and Andy Serkis to complement Bale, Jackman, and Caine, The Prestige weaves a narrative that ultimately comes down to its ending, its prestige, and the countdown trio give their thoughts on all the technical aspects, the performances, the characters, and yes, the twist ending. Welcome to episode 273. This installment is fantastic. I'm being serious here. The show opens with a few new nicknames. Benny has equated himself to John Cutter and he has equated RZ to Casey Ryback. Very complimentary stuff. They then roll into how excited they are for Solo, and envision what night life would be like in Cloud City. Very interesting stuff there. RZ gets a quick opportunity to discuss the new God of War game, which is super filthy. Following that, they discuss the Celtics success, as well as the Red Sox. Specifically, they get into the Red Sox standings, then talk about how many goddamn offensive categories the Sox are leading in. Hot stuff. Hot stuff. Oh yeah. They talk about the new Rambo. That should be sweet.

When the bombs went off at the Boston Marathon, social media networks lit up with cell phone pictures and videos. Investigators requested that anyone with footage of the attacks share them with authorities. While that information may have been helpful, the key technology used to identify the bombing suspect was Closed Circuit Television footage. There have been huge advancements in this technology over the past decade. John Cutter, former Commanding Officer for the NYPD's Criminal Intelligence Section, discusses CCTV and cell phone tracking technology, and their legal implications.
