It's Die Hard on a plane (and a carnival)! Take your seats and buckle up as this week Phil and Liam are tackling PASSENGER 57 (1992) with the help of special guest Ronald Young, Jr, a regular contributor to NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour and the host of his own movie podcast Leaving The Theater, as well as the forthcoming Weight For It.  Wesley Snipes stars as John Cutter, a former Secret Service agent turned security specialist caught up in the ruthless hijacking of a passenger plane perpetrated by Charles Rane (Bruce Payne). The guys discuss the cultural significance of this popular movie, a box office hit that effectively launched Snipes as a bona fide action star in the 1990s. It was the first of many “DIE HARD on a plane” style films, although it also made an unscheduled stopover in a product-placement littered Louisiana carnival, where Cutter encounters “on the ground racism” (to quote Ronald) courtesy of the local police, led by (Blake's father) Ernie Lively as the decidedly Dwayne T.Robinson-esque Chief Biggs. The boys break down the character of John Cutter - a haunted hero with a particular set of skills – as they track the continuing evolution of the action hero archetype, and discuss how Bruce Payne's RADA-training and stage background meant that he had a lot in common with DIE HARD's Alan Rickman. The film also features a stellar supporting cast of rising stars, including Bruce Greenwood, Elizabeth Hurley and Tom Sizemore (RIP), one of Phil's favorite actors of the era, who receives a touching tribute in light of his recent passing. This week's edition of ‘Who's Your Favorite Terrorist' requires some pretty esoteric wrestling knowledge, the ‘Die Hard Oscars' remain as controversial as ever, and the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz takes on added spice due to Ronald's wish to compete for glory with Liam! Fasten your seatbelts! Always bet on black! Join Skip and I as we delve deep into Part II of The Wesley Snipes Experience with the Die-Hard-On-A-Passenger-Plane turkey called PASSENGER 57 (1992). A movie that we both enjoyed as 13-year olds but did not give a fuck about in our forties. Wesley Snipes sleepwalks and collects his paycheck in this 84 minute thrill-ride that somehow has the plane land and there is a chase through a yokel carnival! WTF. The late-great Tom Sizemore steals the movie as Sly Delvecchio, and Bruce Payne has one of the worst Alan-Rickman-ripoff performances as the villain Charles Rane (just don't call him insane!).  Stallone was originally going to star in this but he wisely chose to make STOP! OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT instead (a rare win for STOP!). So, store your trays, put your seats in the upright position, and kindly turn off your electronic devices, because we gotta land this freakin podcast and we only got a narrow runway, tighten your seatbelts, it's gonna be a bumpy ride!

More than thirty-five years after its release, Die Hard remains among the most influential action films of all time.  Since its release, we have seen dozens of movies following its formula of having ONE good guy within an enclosed space having to take down a group of bad guys lead by a terrorist mastermind.  This came out only four years after Die Hard and pretty much followed that formula to a T: in this case, the good guy is played by Wesley Snipes and he's a counter-terrorism expert now trapped on a passenger plane with a group of terrorists lead by Bruce Payne.   And you can bet that Wesley gives them a good fight even when the action shifts off of that plane.  Kevin Hooks directed this actioner which is about to turn thirty and as far as '90's Die Hard clones go, this one in particular reminds us to ALWAYS bet on Black! ;) Host: Geoff Gershon  Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

How does Anthony Hickox (Hellraiser 3, Waxwork 1 & 2) handle the first sequel with its violent Neo-Western look and far-more energetic thrills?? Was the third film really that bad as they like to play it up like other infamous third parters (i.e. Candyman 3, Wishmaster 3) or is it still worth a look for Bruce Payne fans???

Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and Thrasher discuss Highlander: Endgame. Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) and Duncan MacLeod (Adrian Paul) team up to battle Jacob Kell (Bruce Payne).  A follow-up to the long-running TV show, Highlander: Endgame has a smaller scope than the sequels up to this point. Locales are often drab, although there are some fun martial arts sequences and Bruce Payne lays on the requisite ham as the villain. There is a nice return to some of the romance of the first movie, but Highlander: Endgame does a poor job explaining how the rich history of the TV show ties into everything.   Follow the show on Twitter @Sequelcast2 Like our Sequelcast 2 Facebook Page Sequelcast 2 is delighted to be a member of The Batman Podcast Network. We chat up Julian Sands, Bruce Payne (not Wayne), director Anthony Hickox, and the lost charm of 90s direct-to-video sequels.  Of course, we also talk about recent movie viewings, Twitter picks for recasting the Warlock, and tease the next episode (Poison Ivy?).  Drinking game: Every time 90s nostalgia is referenced. On this month’s episode we’re taking a look back at 1998’s Sweepers!  In this film Dolph Lundgren plays Christian Erickson, a humanitarian aid worker (with a Special Forces background) who races to stop the development of a new, high-tech land mine in Angola!  This was Lundgren’s second film with production house Nu Image and his first attempt at an action thriller, but one with a message. Don’t worry... the message isn't as confused as the one in Seagal’s On Deadly Ground.  Joining me to discuss this socially conscious thriller is Brenton Haysom from the website, All Outta Bubblegum, the ultimate fan page devoted to the action movies we all love and enjoy!  To what extent is Lundgren once again channeling Clint Eastwood in this role?  What new touches does he add to the “hero with a tragic past” archetype? Did this film bring a sense of awareness to the issue of land mines in Africa?  And what exactly is going on with Bruce Payne in this film? Join Brenton and I as we discuss the somewhat overlooked Sweepers! Major thanks to Brenton Haysom for joining me.  For action movie reviews, video essays, and killcounts, please check out Brenton’s site, allouttabubblegum.com! We continue our theme of “Unnecessary Sequels Readily Available on Netflix Which Involve Immortality, Resurrection, and Christian-motifed Revenge Plots” to bring you our second reviewed Highlander movie: Highlander: Endgame! Wiping away all memories of Highlander II: The Quickening, Endgame brings in the star of the Highlander television series Duncan MacLeod (Adrian Paul) as he carries the torch from the ridiculously haircutted Connor McLeod (Christopher Lambert). Evil highlander Jacob Kell (YSM favorite Bruce Payne) is killing highlanders in some elaborate 500 year old revenge plot, and it’s up to Duncan to stop him. There are also large gaps in the highlander mythos which we assume are filled by Highlander III: The Sorcerer and the television series, though Endgame does a poor job of bringing us into the fold. Mostly the movie is a mishmash of self-contradicting highlander rules enforced by either the Watchers, a mortal group calculating highlander power levels, or no one. It’s not entirely clear.   If you like horrible period drama wigs, a confusing confluence of western and eastern influences, and Bruce Payne mugging his way through the movie, Highlander: Endgame may be for you! We’ll do our best to nitpick highlander rules, contemplate the aggressive nature of immortal sex, and discuss the prevalence of the White Guy Karate throughout the film.

He shoots The Boz and puts him in the hospital. Once awake from his brief but refreshing coma, The Boz plots his revenge against Marcus and the skeeziest long-haired nose-pierced FBI agent in the world, Agent Karl Savak (played by Dungeons and Dragons’s Bruce Payne).
