In this episode, Jonathan Wier is joined by James and Cody for a hilarious and increasingly unhinged exploration of King of the Hill fan theories. It starts off sane but quickly descends into beautiful madness—what they call the King of the Hill conspiracy iceberg. The crew tackles questions like: Why did Luanne give up auto repair? (Possible diagnosis: drain damage.) Did Peggy suffer brain damage after a skydiving mishap? Did Cotton Hill fake his death and flee to Japan? Why does Bobby own a Bart Simpson doll if The Simpsons is just a TV show in that universe? And is Dale exterminating bugs as a lifelong vendetta against his dad? Along the way, they spiral into tangents about Rocky villains, microwave-sized shoes, the myth of Peggy's size 16.5 feet, and a serious debate over who's hotter on Modern Family. If you love King of the Hill, weird fan theories, and grown men bonding over animated sitcoms, this episode is pure comfort food with a propane aftertaste.

TDA The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com Garth Heckman Whats your prediction on the fight Clubber Lang? Romans 5 1 Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God (so things should be good now… we got peace - Right?) because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. 2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory. 3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Afflictions = (i.e pain, problems, suffering, lack) Do you know how biologists evaluate life? It is in terms of the capacity to experience pain, the more the pain, the higher the life form. The highest life form not only feels pain the most, but can also feel others pain as well. **When we deny pain we deny being human and how God has created us to be and learn. Society wants you to avoid pain.. yellow teeth, single, overweight, wrinkles, financial lack, loss, The sophistication to avoid pain in todays world has become world class. Here is how most of us deal and avoid pain. Deal with it - “its your fault” Avoid - anything that distracts the purpose of pain (spending, bitterness, money, overeating, joining a cause, exercise, hobbies….) C.S. Lewis - pain is Gods megaphone to a deaf world… but we learn to put in earplugs. Pain forces you to face your deepest issues keeping you from being like Christ. So God tells us rather than avoid, blame or run we should rejoice.

Yesterday's Sports is part of the Sports History Network - The Headquarters For Sports Yesteryear.EPISODE SUMMARYMuhammad Ali and Larry Holmes called him the hardest puncher they ever faced, harder than Joe Frazier, George Foreman, and Mike Tyson. Randall Tex Cobb said: “He hit so hard you felt it in your ankles.” The man they were talking about was Earnie Shavers.Once when George Foreman was asked who the hardest punchers he ever faced were, George responded, “Gerry Cooney, Ron Lyle, and Cleveland Williams.” When asked why Earnie Shavers wasn't on that list, George responded, “I never fought Shavers, thank goodness!”Actor Sylvester Stallone once got a taste of the punching power of Shavers when he invited Shavers to audition for the role of “Clubber” Lang. While Stallone was sparring with Shavers, Earnie, not wanting to hurt him, was hitting Stallone with soft jabs. After a few minutes, Stallone said, “Show me something real Earnie.” So, Shavers let him have it, punching him once near the liver. Stallone later said: “Earnie nearly killed me. I went straight to the men's room and threw up”.....You can read the full blog post here.YESTERDAY'S SPORTS BACKGROUNDHost Mark Morthier grew up in New Jersey just across the river from New York City during the 1970s, a great time for sports in the area. Welcome back, Born to Watch listeners! In this episode, we dive into the electrifying world of "Rocky III," the third instalment in the legendary Rocky series. Directed by and starring Sylvester Stallone, this 1982 classic reinvigorates the saga of the Italian Stallion with new challenges, unforgettable characters, and the iconic anthem "Eye of the Tiger."Overview and Plot Summary"Rocky III" begins with Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) at the pinnacle of his career. He's the reigning heavyweight champion, enjoying a lavish lifestyle with his wife Adrian (Talia Shire) and son. The opening montage, set to Survivor's “Eye of the Tiger,” captures Rocky's string of successful title defences and newfound celebrity status. However, this success brings complacency, something that his trainer, Mickey Goldmill (Burgess Meredith), warns him about.Enter Clubber Lang (Mr. T), a ferocious and hungry challenger who calls out Rocky's seemingly softening resolve. Clubber's taunts and raw power culminate in a dramatic face-off, where he brutally dethrones Rocky, not only taking his title but also delivering a crushing blow to his spirit.Rocky's journey to redemption is both physical and emotional. With the help of his former rival, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), Rocky must reclaim the "eye of the tiger"—the primal, relentless drive that first made him a champion. Through gruelling training and self-discovery, Rocky prepares for a rematch that's as much about regaining his pride as it is about reclaiming the title.Cinematography and DirectionStallone's direction in "Rocky III" is marked by a notable shift in style from the previous films. The grit and grime of Philadelphia give way to a more polished, almost glossy depiction of Rocky's life at the top. This contrast effectively underscores Rocky's initial loss of hunger and drive. The training montages, a staple of the Rocky series, are particularly memorable here, with the beach running scene between Rocky and Apollo standing out as a moment of pure cinematic energy and emotional resonance. The fight scenes are shot viscerally, pulling the audience into the ring. The cinematography by Bill Butler captures the brutal reality of boxing, with sweat and blood flying in slow motion, emphasizing the physical toll of each punch. The camera work during the final fight keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, perfectly complementing the film's dramatic pacing.Character Development and PerformancesSylvester Stallone delivers a multifaceted performance as Rocky. He adeptly portrays Rocky's transformation from a complacent champion to a humbled underdog seeking redemption. Stallone's ability to convey vulnerability and determination makes Rocky's journey deeply relatable and inspiring.Mr. T's portrayal of Clubber Lang is nothing short of iconic. His raw, unbridled aggression starkly contrasts Rocky's initially softened demeanour. Mr T imbues Clubber with an intensity that makes him one of the most memorable antagonists in the series. His famous line, “I pity the fool,” has become part of the pop culture lexicon.Carl Weathers reprises his role as Apollo Creed, adding a new layer to his character. The transition from Rocky's rival to his mentor is handled with nuance, showcasing Apollo's respect for Rocky and his own desire to reclaim some glory by proxy. Their developing friendship adds depth to the narrative and provides some of the film's most heartfelt moments.Burgess Meredith's Mickey continues to be the grounding force in Rocky's life. His death is a poignant turning point in the film, symbolizing the end of an era and pushing Rocky to rediscover his fighting spirit. Talia Shire's Adrian also plays a crucial role; her unwavering support and powerful pep talk give Rocky the emotional strength he needs.Historical and Cultural Significance"Rocky III" holds a significant place in cinema history. Released during the early 1980s, the film reflects the era's cultural landscape, where themes of perseverance, self-reliance, and redemption resonated strongly with audiences. The film's success helped cement Sylvester Stallone as a major Hollywood player and further established the Rocky franchise as a cultural touchstone. The soundtrack, particularly "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor, became an anthem for motivation and resilience. Its association with Rocky's training montages has made it synonymous with overcoming challenges and pushing one's limits. The song's enduring popularity is a testament to the film's impact on pop culture.Pop Culture Impact"Rocky III" is more than just a sports drama; it's a cultural phenomenon. Mr. T's portrayal of Clubber Lang introduced the world to a new kind of larger-than-life character, influencing portrayals of antagonists in sports films and beyond. The film's themes of facing fears, rebounding from failure, and reclaiming one's identity continue to inspire generations of moviegoers. The film also contributed to the rise of franchise filmmaking in Hollywood. Its box office success demonstrated the viability of sequels and helped pave the way for future instalments. The Rocky series has left an indelible mark on world cinema with its underdog story and relatable hero."Rocky III" is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Rocky franchise. With its compelling narrative, memorable performances, and iconic soundtrack, the film captures the essence of what makes the Rocky story so captivating. It's a tale of resilience, friendship, and the relentless pursuit of greatness. For fans of the series and newcomers alike, "Rocky III" offers a powerful reminder of why Rocky Balboa remains one of cinema's most beloved characters. For the latest episode of the Film Stories podcast, a war movie, a boxing movie, and a few problems in the making of both.1963's The Great Escape was a film that director John Sturges couldn't initially get off the ground, and he needed his success with The Magnificent Seven to make it happen. When it did? It wasn't the easiest of productions, with a lot of chopped down trees, and a star who wasn't happy with his part in the film.Sylvester Stallone wasn't initially chomping at the bit to make Rocky III meanwhile, but when he opted to make the movie, his script would reflect the difficulties he was facing himself at the time. Laurence Tureaud is a National Treasure, he is at the same level of Dolly Parton for me, and he led a campaign as a spokesperson to promote masculinity...for a candy bar. He is known for his roles as B. A. Baracus in the 1980s television series The A-Team and as boxer Clubber Lang in the 1982 film Rocky III. He is also known for his distinctive hairstyle inspired by Mandinka warriors in West Africa, his copious gold jewelry, his tough-guy persona and his catchphrase "I pity the fool!", first uttered as Clubber Lang in Rocky III, then turned into a trademark used in slogans or titles, like the reality show I Pity the Fool in 2006. You may know him as Mr. T, I know him as the epitamy of cool, let's talk about candy bars and manliness on this episode of The Ranger Ryan Show.Hosted on Acast. This week on Fabulous Film and Friends we're concluding our discussion of the Rocky/Creed franchise with a full discussion of not one, not two but three Rocky Sequels and spinoffs: 1982‘s Rocky III directed by and starring Sylvester Stallone, along with Talia Shire, Burt Young, Carl Weathers, and in a star-making role, Mr. T. as well as 1990's Rocky V, directed by John G. Advilson starring all the surviving Rocky regulars including Burgess Meredith with Boxer Tommy Morrison, Richard Gant, and Stallone's son Sage in supporting roles double-teaming against 2023's Creed III, directed by Michael B. Jordan and starring Mr. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors, Phylicia Rashad, Florian Munteanu, and Wood Harris. I'm joined by a duo of macho, cigars and beefsteak loving bare-knuckle brawlers, Author George Young, and Actor Gordon Alex Robertson. Before we begin round the final round, the synopses: Rocky III picks up Rocky's story after he wins the rematch against Apollo Creed and becomes world heavyweight champion of the world. At which point the film launches into a pulse-pounding montage of Rocky's rise to fame and fortune as he grows ever so flabby and soft while unbeknownst to him in the periphery is a young and ferocious boxer named Clubber Lang who is itching to destroy Rocky in a title bout. And destroy him he does, taking down Rocky's long time manager Mickey with him who dies of a heart attack right after Rocky is defeated. Broken and beaten, Rocky find an unlikely ally in his old nemesis Apollo Creed who hatches a plan to train Rocky to fight Clubber in a rematch, this time with Rocky learning Apollo's lighting quick fighting style. Rocky V takes place immediately after Rocky IV ends and within ten minutes of screen time Rocky has lost his money and has brain damage and is forced to both retire and move back into the South Philly neighborhood where it all started. He is hounded by a greedy promoter named George Washington Duke who wants him to risk everything for one more fight. Additionally, a huckleberry fighter from Oklahoma named Tommy “The Machine” Gunn seeks Rocky out as a mentor and trainer and after some hemming and hawing Rocky obliges and teaches Tommy the ins and outs of championship boxing. But since Rocky won't budge Duke recruits Tommy and pits master against student. Creed III begins with Adonis Creed, now retired from boxing and caring for his wife and family while also training and promoting future Heavyweight champions at the Delphi Gym --the same gym where his father trained. One day Diamond Damien Anderson, a childhood friend from the Foster Care system who went o jail because he was defending Adonis in a fight in front of a liquor store, returns from jail asking Adonis to help him get back into boxing. Going against his better judgment but racked with guilt because of Damien's incarceration, Adonis agrees to take on Damien. Damien nearly murders Adonis' chief protégé in the ring and takes the title of Heavyweight Champ and in doing so begins to exact revenge and forcing Adonis' hand toward an inevitable confrontation in the ring.
With the recent release of Creed III, the boys decided it was time to review the franchise from where it began. Before Creed, on the filthy streets of Philly, there was once a down on his luck goon who became a boxing phenom! The one and only, Rocky Balboa. It's time to review Rocky I-III.
Clubber Lang is to be feared, Apollo is to be Respected.

Our retro movie review today takes a look back at Rocky III from 1982, one of the most important pop culture movies of the decade. This movie introduces the world to Mr. T as Clubber Lang against Rocky Balbo (Sylvester Stallone) with an appearance by a pre-WWE champion Hulk Hogan. This movie gave us Eye of the Tiger by Survivor, Mr. T, the elements of the Rock and Wrestling movement that would launch the pro wrestling boom of the 1980s, and much more. A great movie with a lot of impact. I predict... pain.

Now that Christmas is over, it's time to engage in Boxing Day! This week we look at what makes boxing movies so popular and inspirational. Jay and Shua come out swinging as we Enjoy Stuff! From Rocky to Creed, boxing movies are popular, motivational, and award-winning. We look at some of our most memorable pugilistic stories and try to figure out why people like them. News Bryce Dallas Howard will be heading up a reboot of Disney's classic alien mystery Witch Mountain Hey, look at that! They renewed Quantum Leap for season 2! And the Disney+ series The Santa Clauses has been renewed for more holiday goodness next year. Check out our TeePublic store for some enjoyable swag and all the latest fashion trends What we're Enjoying The holidays are over, but they delivered a new Christmas tradition for Shua. The Apple TV movie Spirited with Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds was an impressive, Broadway-style musical. He was very impressed with the story, songs, and performances of the cast. Jay sat down for a rewatch of the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building with his wife. Like the TechnoRetro Dads, she was intrigued by the entertaining and hilarious show. Sci-Fi Saturdays/MCU Location Scout For the end of 2022, Jay wrapped up Sci-Fi Saturdays with Dark City (1998). A wild psychological trip of a vision of the future. Tune in this Saturday for a reboot of Lost in Space (1998) with Gary Oldman, William Hurt, Matt LeBlanc, and Mimi Rogers. Enjoy Movies! December 26 is Boxing Day in many parts of the world. Though it started out as a way for rich people to pretend like they cared about their servants, it soon evolved into….well, another excuse to lure shoppers into stores with sales galore. While it never really evolved into anything significant in the United States, it gave us the perfect excuse to Enjoy some boxing movies. Probably the first thing you think of when someone stops you on the street and says, “Hey buddy, what movie do you think of when I say boxing?” is “Get away from me you freak! Why are you asking random strangers about boxing movies?!?!” But then you're going to think of Sylvester Stallone's 1976 movie Rocky. It was an inspirational tale of an underdog boxer in Philadelphia who got a once in a lifetime chance to prove himself. And that's what boxing movies do for us. They help us understand that hard work and perseverance can change your life, even if you don't get the knockout. Rocky inspired a series of sequels, many of which are just as iconic or more! Whether he's fighting Clubber Lang or Ivan Drago, we can cheer for this guy who we've come to know through good storytelling. Learning about characters is really the key to a good boxing movie. Winning the boxing match isn't the real goal for our hero, it's overcoming the hardships of their lives. The Champ (1979) starred Jon Voight as a boxer who was trying to keep his young son, played by Ricky Schroder. Robert DeNiro's Raging Bull (1980) told the real life story of Jake LaMotta whose violence and temper made him a good fighter, but destroyed his life out of the ring. Sometimes the story could be fun. In 1979, Tim Conway starred with Don Knotts as a fighter who gets roped in by the mob to participate in a series of fixed fights. And The Main Event (1979) with Ryan O'Neal and Barbara Streisand was a romantic comedy about a boxer and a woman who tries to get him back into the ring. It was promoted as “A Glove Story”. The list goes on and on. Boxing movies don't show any signs of going away and they even often earn high praises and awards in Hollywood. Are you inspired by boxing movies? Do you drink a lot of eggs first thing in the morning? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Yo Adrian!” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know.
