Since hemp was legalized in 2018, Texans have been able to buy almost all the same products consumers can get in fully legal states; flower, vapes, edibles, drinks, topicals, and tinctures, albeit with very low levels of THC. Like many other states where only hemp is allowed, Texas has seen a rapidly-growing industry CBD industry, several cities have voted to decriminalize, and there are some seriously dope cannabis community spaces starting to open up.As host Brit Smith discovers on her road trip around the Lone Star State, Texas now boasts several high-end dispensaries, CBD cafes, and community events. Brit visits Mary Jae Dispensary in Austin, where consumers can smell the different kinds of hemp flower before buying, pick from a world-class selection of pipes and lifestyle products, and join their social club to come together with other canna-curious Texans for toke and twerk classes or puff and paint nights, without fear of the law.Brit also learns about the state of medical marijuana in Texas with Denton-based medical advocate Chris ‘Gramps' Grisolia, Political Director of Republicans Against Marijuana Prohibition John Baucum, GoodBlends Dispensary's Community Outreach Manager Terrence Baugh, and Texas state Rep. GUNS & THE YOUTH VOTE WITH DAVID HOGG & JOHN ROSENTHAL We devote the first hour of the GREE-GREE zoom gathering #116 with the great DAVID HOGG and a deep dive into two issues at the core of American politics: gun violence and youth turnout. Now a senior at Harvard University, Hogg has become a national icon in the movement to lower the death toll from guns and motivate the youth vote. David's work, in tandem with JOHN ROSENTHAL, has significantly changed views of gun registration and control in Massachusetts and elsewhere. Hogg and Rosenthal have helped pioneer the AMERICA CALLING organization which aims to vastly expand the turnout among young voters. Rosenthal's efforts, in conjunction with Hogg, have tangibly lowered the gun violence death rate in Massachusetts, and could do the same nationwide, saving more than 26,000 lives. These two grea activists are already legends in making real change in American politics. Rooted in the younger generations now taking control of the electorate, while simultaneously working to end gun violence, they are not to be missed.

4/28/21--This week on The Horse Race, we bring you some bittersweet news. Our very own, extremely talented, reporter and co-host extraordinaire, Stephanie Murray, will be joining us for just one more episode of The Horse Race! She has been promoted to a national position for Politico, so keep an eye out for her as the new author of The Morning Score. In other big #mapoli news, Massachusetts is making big reopening moves. New reopening guidelines include, effective May 29th,(dependent on public health and vaccination data) gathering limits will increase to 200 people indoors and 250 people outdoors; May 10th will bring the opening of amusement parks and water parks at 50% capacity; and on August 1st other industries will be permitted to open such as nightclubs, saunas, and ball pits (?). Jenn has been closely following the Boston mayoral race and analyzes the newest development, or lack thereof. State senator Nick Collins announced he will not be running for mayor of Boston. Many had speculated he might jump into the race, but his official decision not to run means in all likelihood, the race for Boston mayor will for the first time in history not include a white man. Steve sounds off on Secretary of the Commonwealth Bill Galvin's deflection on the question of whether he'll run for re-election. Galvin has been in office since 1995, and his response to the State House News Service that he "enjoy[s]" his job indicates he might run for an eighth term. -- New data from the 2020 Census is out this week. Some states' Congressional seats will change as a result, but Massachusetts will keep its same nine. Stephanie Murray explains what the data tells us about our districts and provides national context as well. -- In the wake of devastating mass shootings this year, a Massachusetts reporter looked into why the commonwealth's rates of gun deaths are the lowest in the country. Sarah Betancourt's Guardian article details the work of John Rosenthal, co-founder of Stop Handgun Violence, an organization that is in part responsible for the low gun death rates. She stopped by The Horse Race to tell us what gun restrictions contribute to our state's performance and explains in what other ways Massachusetts is in fact contributing to the gun violence epidemic.
John Rosenthal, co-founder of Stop Handgun Violence, details the impact of Massachusetts' success with public policy on gun control and the choices officials must make to replicate that success nationwide.
John will be here for a full hour to take questions and discuss artist's rights to their work. CORRECTION: The Senate health care bill was introduced, not passed, as was incorrectly stated in this episode. The United States Senate introduced their own version of a “repeal and replace” health care bill last week. Many of the concerns OHSU had with the house version remain with this bill. And a forum held at OHSU brought together business leaders to discuss gun violence as a public health issue. Guests: Abby Tibbs, associate vice president for government relations; Dr. Brian Gibbs, vice president for equity and inclusion; John Rosenthal, founder of Stop Handgun Violence and president of Meredith Management; Dr. John Hunter, interim dean of the School of Medicine.
I will never forget the unmitigated horror of watching as the United States openly switched sides in the 2011 "Arab Spring," abandoning allies in the war on terror (jihad) to support those same jihadist forces instead. There was precious little company in the press gallery on this one as US media, shouting slogans of "revolution" and "democracy," blindly failed to perceive or actually covered up the obvious truth: The US, with NATO, was now supporting the Other Side -- the same Other Side that had struck us in 9/11, killed and maimed our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and threatened Western liberty everywhere. It was in this crazy atmosphere, John Rosenthal's independent reporting from Europe provided essential information and context.
