The Agency Brief Agency Update “The government looked at a piece of plastic on the back of a rifle, panicked, and spent ten years proving that gun control is a complete myth.” THE INTEL (THE STORY) The Play-by-Play: 1989 Catalyst: The Stockton school shooting gives gun control groups their emotional leverage. The media pivots away from the shooter's massive rap sheet to demonize the “evil” semi-auto rifle. What the Media Lied About: They flat-out lied that military machine guns were flooding the streets. Anti-gun activist Josh Sugarmann explicitly published this strategy: exploit the public's confusion between semi-autos and fully automatic weapons to manufacture outrage. The Architects: Bill Clinton needed a “tough on crime” headline. Sen. Dianne Feinstein drafted the ban, later admitting her true goal on 60 Minutes: “If I could have gotten 51 votes… for an outright ban… Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in; I would have done it.” What It Actually Did: Banned 19 specific firearms and semi-autos equipped with two or more “scary” cosmetic features (bayonet lugs, flash suppressors, folding stocks, pistol grips). It also capped new magazines at 10 rounds. The Backroom Deals: Democrats didn't have the votes for a permanent ban. They negotiated a 10-year sunset clause and grandfathered in millions of existing firearms, gambling they could just expand it later. The Workaround: The industry adapted overnight. Manufacturers removed the banned cosmetic plastic and sold functionally identical rifles. Congress literally regulated aesthetics. 2004 Sunset: The ban expires. An official, DOJ-funded study by Christopher Koper concludes the ban did absolutely nothing to reduce gun violence. The Reality Check (Hidden Incentives): Conditioning the Public: This was a psychological op to condition Americans to accept the government banning entire categories of firearms based purely on Hollywood aesthetics. Incrementalism: Lawmakers knew a total gun ban wouldn't fly, so they established the “feature test” as a foothold for future, broader bans. The True Target: The feature ban was mostly temporary political theater; starving the civilian market of standard-capacity magazines was their real long-term objective. Market Impact: They hoped shifting regulations would bankrupt the tactical firearms market with compliance red tape. Instead, they inadvertently birthed the massive modern AR-15 industry. THE 2A ANGLE (LEGAL & IMPACT) The Threat: The '94 ban is the exact blueprint tyrannical blue states (CA, NY, IL, WA) use today to terrorize FFLs and castrate standard rifles. They took a proven federal failure and turned it into permanent state-level law. For modern FFLs, this means SKU-by-SKU compliance nightmares, massive inventory risks, and the constant threat of a new federal ban—which, next time, likely won't include a grandfathering clause. Bruen Test: Text: The Second Amendment protects “arms.” Semi-auto centerfire rifles and standard capacity magazines are plainly protected arms. History & Tradition: There is zero founding-era analogue for restricting arms based on ergonomic grips or muzzle devices. The Founders didn't ban repeating arms when they emerged. Heller / McDonald Check: Arms “in common use for lawful purposes” are fundamentally protected. With over 24 million AR-15s in civilian hands right now, they undeniably satisfy the common use standard. Banning them violates the core of Heller. Bruen kills the feature-test dead; rogue appellate courts are simply playing games to delay the inevitable. Regulatory Creep: The Expanding Ratchet: The feature test is a backdoor trap. It started with bayonet lugs and flash hiders, then moved to pistol braces, threaded barrels, and parts kits. Fluid Definitions: Current AWB proposals name over 200 firearms and reduce the threshold to just one aesthetic feature. The Handgun Endgame: Once society accepts that a semi-auto action plus a detachable mag equals a “weapon of war,” your daily-carry Glock 19 or P365 is logically next. No technical gear details matching the required format are explicitly provided. Going Ballistic ATF NFA Division: Over 1 Million Forms Processed in 2026, 6 Million Suppressors Registered (Savage) The ATF's National Firearms Act (NFA) Division processed over 1 million NFA forms in the first four months of 2026, surpassing previous annual totals due to the elimination of the $200 tax stamp for suppressors and short-barreled firearms effective January 1, 2026. Over half of these were Form 4 applications for suppressor transfers, with nearly 6 million suppressors now registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record (NFRTR) as of April 2026. This marks a historic surge, with 2026 registrations rivaling decades of prior accumulation. The Gist: National (United States): ATF NFA Division and National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record (NFRTR); applies nationwide to NFA items like suppressors and short-barreled firearms. Impact: Elimination of $200 tax stamp for suppressors and short-barreled firearms effective January 1, 2026, caused surge in processing (over 1 million forms in first 4 months of 2026 vs. 1.37 million in all of 2024); over 5.99 million suppressors registered as of April 10, 2026. Bottom Line: Historic surge in NFA adoption post-tax elimination, with 2026 early-year forms exceeding prior annual records and suppressor registrations rivaling 76 years (1934-2010) of prior totals. Post-Bruen Gun Rights Cases: Wolford v. Lopez, United States v. Mitchell, United States v. Hemani, Viramontes v. Cook County, and Roberts v. ATF (Savage) The article details several post-Bruen Supreme Court and lower court cases challenging restrictions on public carry, prohibited-person statutes under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g), AR-15 bans, and NFA registration requirements....

Use code AGENCY171 DEAR WLS Question from Clay-more the Merrier As 2026 is the 500th anniversary of Beretta I'd like to know the panel's favorite Italian firearm, food and historical military leader? Question from Anonymous Coward Jon Hey guys wanted to ask you a question regarding hunting, do you think I should get a 22 air rifle (small game) and a crossbow (big game) to cover my hunting needs on both areas or is there a caliber that you guys can recommend that would do both? Thanks and love the show Question from Matthew C Hello, I am a diesel technician in eastern Indiana and work in a very rural and gun friendly area. A few of us in the shop have noticed that the required experience for drivers has been lowered in the last few years and we have all noticed the “quality” of drivers has drastically dropped. We have had upset drivers that come in yelling and screaming after getting fired or not getting their way (most of them are of the non English speaking variety). A few of us have kept pistols in our toolboxes for years. The safety department and upper management tell everyone “it's against company policy”. They are all great bosses and understand what is actually happening. They then talk for 10 minutes about the high end 1911 they keep in their desk. A couple of us have purchased the North American Arms .22 magnum, folding revolvers to pocket carry. They look like a standard pocket knife clip from 5 feet away and no one notices. The single action and 5 shot capacity is less than desirable though. We were talking and arguing over what is the best gun/holster combination that could conceal perfectly and not get caught on equipment. We are all 5'9- 6′ 1″, 160lbs to 220lbs. Not skinny, not fat. Appendix carry is not ideal. We were all thinking less than $700 total setup. The weapons will get beat up and dirty on occasion. What is your thoughts on ankle holsters? We would prefer 9mm. Would combination would you guys recommend? If no decision can be made, our young parts guy is a 21 year old virgin. He is 6′ 5″ and 350lbs. We could always have him rape the driver to death. Just a back up option. We think he may be Jeremy's illegitimate offspring. P.S Thanks to this show, I figured out that my favorite hat is ALSO a Richardson 112. Fat heads for life! Question from Cooter H Nick mentioned cheap 22's on Double Tap last week. Those make rad projects if you're willing to cut up a classic. I just took a Remington 511, cut it to 16”, threaded it for a can, then mounted an old glossy Leupold and stuck it in a surplus Remington 513 stock. What other old guns would the cast bastardize make it cool again? Question from Chris W Hey guys if you had to build a dmr load out what would it be? Semi auto, or bolt? 30-06, .308, or 7mm rem mag? What optics? Noreen arms makes these big ass semi auto rifles and I kind of want one and cant decide. The budget isnt a concern and its going to be a range toy for the most part or until shit hits the fan and I need someone on overwatch. Thanks in advance. Question from Un-ominous Cowword in Your Mom Is Aaron's middle name really Farkas or is that just him slipping(pun intended) a word that sounds like fuck-ass into his social media? Thanks GUN INDUSTRY NEWS GOA: Anti-Gun Lobby Attacks Organization as Extremists for Second Amendment Advocacy Gun Owners of America (GOA) reports that the billionaire-funded gun-control lobby is labeling the organization as extremists due to its uncompromising stance on restoring Second Amendment rights nationwide. The NRA Show or NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits is an open to the public gun show that gives customers and manufacturers a chance to mingle with one another and showcase products, answer questions, and hopefully get questions answered. In stark contrast to other trade shows like SHOT Show, NRAAM also has a pretty hefty political component with prominent speakers such as President Donald Trump making frequent appearances as well as other pro-gun politicians and industry leaders. This year Hop and Luke of TFBTV will be on the scene to cover the latest product releases from all of our favorite manufacturers. Riding Shotgun With Charlie #172 Paul Markel Student of the Gun (The Pimp Hand of America)   Paul Markel is someone I've heard on Armed American Radio several times. It's always great to hear his stance on anything. He doesn't mince words. He doesn't hold back. And you always know where he stands. A good friend said he would be at NRAAM in Indianapolis this year and at the GLOCK booth. So after an email and an introduction, he said he'd be up for doing the show. Special thanks to Rob & Amanda from Eye On The Target Radio for the use of their “stagecoach” to film the show.    We kicked off with Paul explaining that it wasn't a job he was looking for, but a job he accepted, was to be the Pimp Hand of America because “this country needs a slap”. And he's just the man to do it.  Paul is very direct and to the point about his stance on topics du jour. Our first topic was the homeless folks on the way to his hotel in Indy.    During his youth, Paul spent time running around the yard with a rifle shaped stick. That led to shooting single shot BB guns with his grandfather with a tube of BBs from the local grocery store. Joining the military after his high school love didn't work out, he enlisted as a Marine and spent time on the USS Forrestal. After jungle warfare training they had to change to desert warfare training and he was involved with Desert Storm Part 1.    Upon coming home, he needed to find a job. His family knew a police chief and he went into the police academy but found out that 500 men like him were applying for 3 jobs. Back when he was 19, he tried to take an executive protection course. The job required experience, which he didn't have at the time. But after the military, he found he was a good candidate for that line of work, which he did for 13 years.    With all this experience, Paul took a job as a military contractor and started teaching small arms and tactics. When the contract starts to wind down, the job looks less and less appealing. While in the Marine Corps, he was a rifle and pistol marksmanship coach and really enjoyed teaching classes. A mentor suggested the old adage about “publish or die” and that led to Paul starting to write back in 1993 when he sold a couple of articles. He eventually started writing for Harris Publication and many other magazines.    Writing led to talking to a TV producer and that's how Student of the Gun (SOTG) TV started. Eventually, SOTG ended up on several different TV networks. Producing TV shows takes a lot of work. There's cameras, lighting, audio, editing, and it's all time consuming.    What I really like about Paul is that he's a very intellectual man. He's very well read. On the SOTG website there's a suggested reading list of several books and how & where to order them. We talk about 1984, The Rape of the Mind, Brave New World, and Fahrenheit 451. He talks about how going to bodyguard school really helped with him learning to pay attention which has also helped out with the things he studied and learned from the masters and the books mentioned. The job of the bodyguard is to make sure that nothing happens and nothing unexpected happens, which means you also need to know what is normal and what is out of place.    I've already started the SOTG book collection by buying Total Resistance by H.Von Dach. I also downloaded The Rape of the Mind in audiobook for some driving adventures coming up. I do like buying books, but I need to read some of them, too, otherwise it's futile.    Favorite quotes: “It's the only job you can work and as the years go by, you get paid the same amount or less, for doing the more work.” “A stepping stone in a profession is to be published.” “You destroy the culture. You destroy the language. You destroy the people.” “When everything is a Right, nothing is a Right.” “I don't know if I ever created anything but I sat at the feet of masters and I paid attention.” Student of the Gun Podcast https://studentofthegun.com/podcast/studentofthegunradio/   YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@studentofthegun   The Four Pillars of Fighting Book https://www.amazon.com/Four-Pillars-Fighting-James-Yeager-ebook/dp/B0BYRQ5YCD Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun   Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/     Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters.    Buy RSWC & GunGram shirts & hoodies, stickers & patches, and mugs at the store! http://ridingshotgunwithcharlie.com/rswc-shop/   Dennis McCurdy Author, Speaker, Firewalker http://www.find-away.com/   Self Defense Radio Network http://sdrn.us/   Buy a Powertac Flashlight, use RSWC as the discount code and save 15% www.powertac.com/RSWC

According to the victim, he and his wife were relaxing in a hot tub outside a home near Nathrop Saturday night when he felt something grab his head. “He and his wife began screaming and splashing water at the animal. The victim's wife grabbed a flashlight and shined it on the animal, which they then identified as a mountain lion,” Colorado Parks and Wildlife said. “The light and commotion caused the mountain lion to retreat about 20 feet from the couple in the hot tub. They continued to scream at the mountain lion, and after a short time it moved up to the top of a hill near some rocks where it crouched down and continued to watch the couple.” (Click Here for Full Article)
