Today we further realize the sense of the word “credo,” meaning “I believe.” As we read the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed, we discover the differences between the two and come to understand how the Nicene Creed, which came centuries later, expands upon and explains the beliefs of the Apostles' Creed. Fr. Mike tells us that these Creeds help us to share the essential elements of Catholicism, acting as “symbols of faith,” and encouraging communion between believers. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 185-192. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. Even in today's modern world, it's incredibly challenging to extend affordable, reliable and high-performing broadband services to the 42 million rural Americans who lack access. In cities and suburbs, network infrastructure can serve thousands, whereas rural areas only cover a few dozen homes and businesses, pressuring revenue generation and affecting overall return on investment. Additionally, because of the longer distances and tough terrain, installing fiber optic cables in rural areas increases the cost per mile. Federal funding is required to provide the broadband access rural America needs. That's why the Federal Government established the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program, which sets aside $42 billion for the initiative. The funds are allocated to the states and then down to service providers, which have to report their work to the states, which, in turn, have to report back to the Federal Government. This highlights the need for all stakeholders to conduct their reporting in a unified manner to avoid confusion and delays. Today it was those pesky Homonyms that dot our linguistic landscape. I know I can hear the shouts in the background “They're homophones”. Yes, I suppose I'm out of step with current usage, but I never accepted the concept of Language Arts as opposed to teaching English. After all, I'm not ashamed of speaking English and it's a matter of self-respect to speak correctly.Homonyms & synonyms too remain a problem for Seri (and no doubt Alexa).

How Towers and Data Centers can Capitalize on 5G Expansion, iconectiv Podcast, “Many tower and data center operators don't have a complete understanding of their asset portfolios,” says Juan Carlos Ortiz, Principal for Corporate Business Development As the demand for seamless 5G wireless coverage grows, tower and data center operators are in prime position to capitalize on its expansion, but many of them aren't fully realizing these opportunities. In this podcast, Juan Carlos Ortiz, Principal for Corporate Business Development at iconectiv, explains how tower and data center operators can take full advantage of the opportunities arising from 5G expansion. “Many tower and data center operators don't have a complete understanding of their asset portfolios,” Ortiz said. “There is a standard nomenclature that service providers and their business partners have been using for decades to describe critical network resources in a consistent, descriptive and meaningful way, and that mechanism is called Common Language.” About iconectiv iconectiv provides services to secure digital identity, numerous data exchanges, registries, and other information as a service offerings. Just like how English is the international language of business, Bitcoin's lightning network is how various layers and apps and products will ‘talk' to each other. Roy Sheinfeld, founder and CEO of Breez (@Breez_Tech) rejoins me to talk about updates in lightning and what's new with Breez SDK. We discuss the various layers and ways of interacting with Bitcoin and lightning, using Liquid (@Liquid_BTC) with swaps, and Bitcoin as a medium of exchange. Summary: In this conversation, Stephan and Roy discuss the current state of Bitcoin and Lightning. They explore the contrasting narratives of Lightning startups shutting down and new partnerships being formed. Roy emphasizes that Lightning is a manifestation of the payments use case of Bitcoin and that the majority of Bitcoin usage is still for trading and as an asset. He believes that the value proposition of Bitcoin lies in its potential as peer-to-peer electronic cash. They also discuss the role of custodial and non-custodial solutions, the regulatory landscape, and the control exerted by governments and private companies. Roy argues that Lightning is the common language of the Bitcoin economy, enabling interoperability between different subnetworks and protocols. He highlights the importance of Lightning as a rail for communication and the incentives for moving Bitcoin within the Lightning network. Breez is working on integrating Lightning Network into existing applications to make Bitcoin more accessible and usable. They have developed the Breez SDK, which allows developers to easily integrate Lightning functionality into their apps. Breez offers two implementations: Greenlight, which is a pure Lightning implementation, and Liquid, which is a nodeless implementation of Lightning using the Liquid sidechain. The goal is to provide a seamless user experience for Lightning transactions and make Bitcoin a common language for payments. Breez is also exploring hybrid solutions and partnerships to expand the adoption of Lightning. Key Takeaways: The majority of Bitcoin usage is currently for trading and as an asset, but the value proposition lies in its potential as peer-to-peer electronic cash. Lightning is the common language of the Bitcoin economy, enabling interoperability between different subnetworks and protocols. There is a need for both custodial and non-custodial solutions, with a growing focus on self-custodial options. The regulatory landscape and control exerted by governments and private companies pose challenges to the use of Bitcoin as a medium of exchange. Incentives within the Lightning network encourage the movement of Bitcoin and the use of Lightning as a rail for communication. Breez is focused on integrating Lightning Network into existing applications to make Bitcoin more accessible and usable. They have developed the Breez SDK, which allows developers to easily integrate Lightning functionality into their apps. "Lightning has already achieved a critical mass. It’s already obvious how a Cashu subnetwork and Fedimint subnetworks will communicate with each other: Lightning. That’s how they were designed, so switching the common language between networks would require rebuilding most of their parts. Like English, whatever language subnetworks use internally, Lightning is the language they use to speak to each other, and it’s already locked in." ~ Roy Sheinfeld Lightning is emerging as the common protocol, or language, for the entire ecosystem of Bitcoin subnets and payment technologies. A conversation with Adriana Pierce, a trailblazing dancer, choreographer, and director, who is reshaping the ballet world through her initiative, Queer the Ballet. Pierce discusses her early dance experiences and how her passion for dance led her to notable positions at the New York City Ballet and Miami City Ballet, where she spent seven years honing her craft. But at the same time, there was much to negotiate: Pierce discusses the challenges of navigating gender and sexual identity in the ballet community. She reflects on the rigid gender-specific roles taught in partnering classes and her desire to break down these traditional dynamics through her choreography. This led, during the pandemic, to the creation of Queer the Ballet, a pioneering initiative aimed at creating inclusive spaces, work, and choreography for queer artists. Pierce talks about some of the work she's created, including the evening-length piece “Dream of a Common Language” which she directed, and the positive reception from the ballet community and audiences. She also shares her vision for the future of Queer the Ballet, emphasizing the need for ongoing support from the ballet community and inclusive training.

Adriana Pierce is a dancer, choreographer, and director based in New York City, and she joined the studio to talk about her work elevating queer artists in ballet, creating community, and her career in classical ballet as well as musical theater! Adriana is the founder of Queer the Ballet, an initiative with the mission to widen the scope of classical ballet by producing queer work by queer dance artists. Queer the Ballet says on its website that it seeks to “queer” our ballet spaces and explore choreography often absent from ballet stages. After training at School of American Ballet, Adriana began her dancing career with New York City Ballet and Miami City Ballet before realizing another dream of hers - working in Broadway, film and tv! She appeared in the 2018 Broadway revival of Carousel, in Steven Spielberg's 2021 West Side Story film, and in the 2019 limited series on FX, Fosse/Verdon. She's currently the associate director and associate choreographer for Justin Peck's “Illinoise" on Broadway. Adriana's other choreographic work features movement and partnering that allows dancers of all genders equal agency, dismantling the traditional gender dynamics of dance. Her choreography has been performed by American Ballet Theatre, Carolina Ballet, Columbia Ballet Collaborative, Ashley Bouder Project, and more. She's also completed residencies with Center for Ballet and the Arts at NYU and Bridge Street Theatre, and she was recognized by Dance Magazine as one of 25 to watch in 2022. Andrea Wang shares Luli and the Language of Tea, a story that reminds us that when you're looking to communicate with people, you look for a common bond. BOOK DESCRIPTION: Luli and the Language of Tea by Andrea Wang; illustrated by Hyewon Yum Though they may speak different languages, kids from all over the world come together to enjoy the shared pastime of tea in this delicious book for young readers. When five-year-old Luli joins her new English as a Second Language class, the playroom is quiet. Luli can't speak English, neither can anyone else. That's when she has a brilliant idea to host a tea party and bring them all together. Luli removes her teapot, thermos, and teacups from her bag and calls out "Chá!" in her native Chinese. One by one, her classmates pipe up in recognition: in Russian, Hindi, Turkish, Persian, Arabic, and Spanish, Portuguese, and Swahili. Tea is a tasty language they all know well, and it gives them a chance to share and enjoy each other's company. When all the tea is gone and it's time for dessert, Luli gets to use her favorite English word, cookie! After that, the playroom isn't so quiet. Informed by her own experience as the child of Chinese immigrant parents, Andrea Wang makes the point that when you're looking to communicate with people, you look for a common bond. The word for "tea" is similar in many languages, and tea becomes the unifying metaphor that brings a diverse group of children together. Additional material at the back of the book explores the rich and ancient history of tea drinking across cultures all around the world and contains maps, statistics, and fascinating details that will delight young readers. NOTABLE QUOTES: (7:33) “I write the kind of stories I do to keep a connection to [my parents]. And it's sort of my way of keeping a conversation with them because they're no longer with us. I feel like I didn't really understand my parents until I was a grownup and what they had gone through in their childhoods in China. And so this is just my way of honoring them and writing about some of the things that we shared as I was growing up with them.” (8:31) “It's really hard to give up everything you've ever known and move somewhere completely different, where you don't speak the language that well or at all.” (13:45) “Just being respectful of people from different cultures is huge. Just instead of reacting with fear, but reacting with curiosity perhaps.” (14:19) “We all have our own story that's going on from day to day. And then, when someone comes in or we're put into a new situation, we're suddenly thrust into the middle of someone else's story. I. We have to observe and react and figure out what's going on.” (18:22) “Reach out and make a new friend. You might not think that they look like you or that you have anything in common, but if you just try a little bit, share some of yourself, like Luli shared some of herself and her culture, you might find that you actually have a lot in common.” ADDITIONAL LINKS: Andrea Wang website - andreaywang.com Purchase the Book - Luli and the Language of Tea by Andrea Wang; illustrated by Hyewon Yum TALK ABOUT THE EPISODE: Have you ever had tea? Noah Webster Jr. and Joseph Emerson Worcester were both born in New England, both went to Yale, and both compiled multiple dictionaries during their lifetimes. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/ciy Please note: The Catechism of the Catholic Church contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB.
