Ever wondered how Hollywood uses blockbuster actors to reel in money? Well, this is the episode for you! Join your hosts, Dan and Tony, as we ridicule and dissect the 2014 movie, The Legend of Hercules, starring Kellen Lutz. We scrutinize everything from illogical plot holes to lackluster character development, and we don't shy away from highlighting some of the director's questionable decisions. It's a hilarious journey through Hollywood's misguided tactics and the audacious scenes that leave us in stitches. This episode is not just about laughs, though. We take a deep dive into the movie's fight scenes, the implausible strategies used by the characters, and the narrative's striking lack of emotional depth. We throw light on Hercules' bewildering strength and the plot decisions that leave more questions than answers. From the overblown fight scenes to the princess's tragic decision, no stone is left unturned in our quest for answers. We even speculate on a potential love angle that could have added some much-needed spice to the tale.As we near the finale, get ready for some light-hearted banter about the characters' apparently encyclopedic knowledge of human anatomy. We also share our thoughts on the movie's ending, rounding off our discussion with some final thoughts on the dubious strategy of using big-name actors to draw in viewers. So, whether you're a seasoned cinephile or just someone who loves a good laugh, this episode promises to deliver a riotous and enlightening dissection of The Legend of Hercules. Buckle up and prepare for a wild, hilarious ride through Greek mythology, Hollywood style!Be our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT
In this episode, Toria chats to Sarah about how applying cognitive techniques will increase mental agility and emotional intelligence and F.L.I.P thinking. This can be used for you and with others, including the young people you work with.Sarah was a headteacher and now runs her own successful consultancy business and is an advisor and facilitator for Laughology. When Sarah chose to leave school at 16, she was told by 3 separate teachers that ‘she wouldn't amount to much'. That didn't put her off though! Since then she has had a varied career, working with banks, businesses, retail, educational and sporting organisations, supporting their learning and development needs before becoming a head teacher. In her first two years of headship, she successfully managed a £7m rebuild; an expansion programme to double the number of pupils and a culture-change programme. All of these projects ensured her school went from a satisfactory Ofsted ranking to a good. During this time she managed key stakeholders, including local authorities, school inspectors and governors, she also successfully guided her team through an improvement programme. Have you ever heard of the job title Head of Happiness? That’s exactly the job title of our guest for today. She’s a stand-up comedian who thought of bringing stand-up comedy into schools to help them with reading and writing. This week I had a very interesting conversation with Stephanie Davies, the founder of Laughology. Stephanie says that her misbehaviour in school was a direct result of her difficulties keeping up in class. Stephanie started her own business and practically invented a job that she’s happy doing. She also ran school initiatives that help children with learning differences. At the end of the podcast Stephanie shared some tips on happiness, so look out for that. Listen to her story now. A graduate of The Second City Conservatory and UCB Improv, Delanie co-created, co-produced, and co-starred in the improvised web series, Two Inches Apart, which was nominated for best comedic ensemble at LA Webfest. Delanie has been featured on NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly and was a series regular on Fox’s Laughs. As you may know, every single guest that I had at “Be Your Best in Business” is a successful entrepreneur, businessman or businesswoman and in one way or another. Normally in these interviews I ask them how they cope up with work life balance. Are they good at it? Are they any different when they are in and out of the office? How do they spend their times outside the walls of their businesses? In this episode, I have gathered all the work life balance clips from all my previous interviews so that we can really look into it, see if there is a formula on how to do it, and how everyone is doing in this area. People have a notion that we need to have a 50-50 work life balance, BUT it does not have to be. Today, I am sharing with you how 11 different business minded people (all were guests in this podcast) deal with work-life balance. We will be covering what each one of these guests has say regarding work-life balance. I am sure that we can all learn a thing or two from them. John Kettley – He practices a three step strategy for everything, including his work life balance. He shared with us how he plans the following year during the window between the current Christmas and New Year’s days. Andrew Bridgewater – He shares the importance of “recharging” to prevent burning out especially if you are in corporate. He also emphasises that work life balance is different for each person, what works for you does not necessarily work for me. It is complex BUT you will surely know when your work life is in imbalance, because more than anyone else, you know yourself. Nick James – Nick says he’s not cracked work life balance yet, BUT he discusses how your health and fitness contributes success in your business. Charlie Mullins – Charlie talked about being not good in terms of work life balance, saying that he might have worked more than he played. But they have a gym (among many cool things) in the Pimlico building that is accessible to their employees! Susan Botfield – She discussed how important it is to say “NO” in order to keep your work life balance. She also talked about how her fitness contributed to her work life balance. Chris Rodwell – I caught up with Chris while he was in Lisbon, where he detailed how he structures everything he does for the week (And since he’s in Lisbon, it includes going to the beach)! Stephanie Davies – Stephanie shares how she keeps her Saturday morning gym routine, and also how important is it for her to keep her non-negotiables. She also talked about how important it is to follow her routine as it allows her to sometimes just be Stephanie and not Laughology’s Stephanie. Andrew McBarnett – We can say Andrew “does not” have work life balance, he takes his wife to his business trips. He shares how important it is to integrate your work into your life, and vice versa. Mick Holloway – When I interviewed Mick, they just had a new addition to the family and they are happy. He shares that he brings his day forward by going to bed early, and getting up early. Kalpesh Patel – He manages his work life balance by really knowing what his priorities are, really understanding what’s important, and then living his life according to those. James Burtt – James says that he does not consider work life balance, just BALANCE. He says sometimes he gets it right and sometimes not. He says that if you are looking at your life and work as two separate things then you are not doing what your CALLING is. As for him, since he has a lot on his plate these days, he relies on getting up earlier and staying up later than usual. We really hope you learned something from this episode. Stephanie Davies is recognized as one of UK's leading voices in happiness, humour, and laughter. She is a global speaker on the subject. She's been working with projects and events in the public sector, doing everything from curating happy learning spaces and environments, to motivating and inspiring individuals, as well as teams. Stephanie has managed to combine award-winning stand-up comedy, and, expertise and experience in psychology in business. This made her one of the most sought after speakers and presenters on the business and after-dinner circuit. She makes her presentations fun, and informative! In this episode, Stephanie shares with us that learning and development should be fun, it should be an enjoyable experience, because these make the brain work better. We also talked about how organisations have a fundamental obligation to really make sure that their people are happy, that they are developed, and also that they are well. Stephanie also shared with us how when she started her career 15 years ago, people told her that her business model will never work, yet, she is where she is right now. It’s a changing world, and we need to continually adapt! Stephanie shares that her business model is a result of her experiences in school. She talks about how there is a different way to learning, to doing business. As she was once disengaged at school, she became passionate that there is a different way to educate, there is a different way to engage young people. She talked about how in college, she was interested in comedy, and she wrote her dissertation about women in comedy, and how stand-up comedy became an avenue to talk about women’s rights, a different way of thinking, about women in performance, and in the world. And because she had to do a performance to match her dissertation, she started her stage performances as a stand-up comedienne. We discussed about the importance of engagement, may it be employee engagement, or with your audience. We talked about the importance of being able to connect with the people that we are working with. And we talked about humour, as an instrument to engagement and connection, and how in organisations, improving engagement means, increasing profits as well. Stephanie pointed out how organisations should look externally how to feed their profits back to the community where their employees live, because these people matter -- and happy employees are productive. We also talked about the importance of support network in the organisation. Lastly, Stephanie shares 5 main drivers of happiness, and they are: Golden Nugget Round Question 1 – What would you tell your 25 Year Old Self? Just do you, don’t worry too much about what other people think. And don’t take that loan from the bank, they’re lying to you, you don’t really need it. Just take a seat back and think. And be confident in your own decisions. Question 2 – What would you Lecturer at University today? I should say happiness, but I lecture that all the time. I would love to talk about starting a business, and to young entrepreneurs about thinking differently, and business scales, and what that actually means in real life. Question 3 – What was your biggest investment or financial decision? My first house. Guest Details To contact Stephanie, you can visit the Laughology website at http://www.laughology.co.uk Links and Resources http://www.laughology.co.uk Quotes There is a different way to educate, there is a different way to engage young people. – Stephanie Davies We need to look at the world differently. As a comedienne, the more crap you have in your life, the better because that is your material. – Stephanie Davies Organisations has a fundamental obligation to look after their people. – Stephanie Davies You don’t have to be happy all the time. – Stephanie Davies
