Dementia is a term that is used to describe a collection of symptoms including memory loss, problems with reasoning and communication skills and a reduction in a person's abilities and skills in carrying out activities of daily living. There are a number of different types of dementia the most common being Alzheimer's Disease, Vascular Dementia, Frontol Temporal Dementia and Dementia with Lewy bodies. A diagnosis of mixed dementia is when the presentation shows the person to have elements of more than one type of dementia. Dementia is a progressive condition. The symptoms become gradually worse, the rate of which varies from person to person and each person will experience dementia in a different way. The purpose of working with people who have dementia, is to improve the functions that the disability affects to the highest possible level. Once achieved, NLP is used to shift the focus and strengthen every other function and resource that the person is using to compensate for the areas that no longer work to their full capacity. Through using the techniques of NLP, we can improve the person's quality of life and provide them with more independence by removing any possible frustrations she or he is experiencing. Tune in to this segment of The NLP View Radio Show, as host, Donna Blinston talks to author, Olive Hickmott about how she uses NLP to help people who suffer from dementia.
Regardless of the bumper crops hobbyist beekeepers boast about and random pockets where bees appear to be thriving, the fact is American honey bees and other pollinators are in serious trouble. Although each administration makes an attempt to do something to help protect our pollinators, we have a long way to go before we can even think about following in the footsteps of the EU and pass a ban on neonicotinoids. Recently, the Congressional Pollinator Protection Caucus was held in Washington, DC. Mr. Tim May, President of the American Beekeeping Federation attended and has some interesting facts to share. In this segment of The Neonicotinoid View Radio Show, bee health advocates, June Stoyer and Tom Theobald talk to Tim May about this briefing. Mr. May will also share his views about how American beekeepers are faring, despite confusing statistics from USDA. ©2018 The Organic View Radio Show. All rights reserved. Is there better chance of success at banning neonicotinoids at the state level than at the federal? Although there have been many diligent efforts by NGO's, environmental groups, beekeepers and bee health advocates to ban neonicotinoids in the United States, there has been no success that equates to the lead set by European bee health advocates. On August 1, 2017, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) published a survey about honey bee health which has outraged commercial beekeepers, honey bee health advocates and environmentalists. The survey implies that honey bee populations are increasing which is contrary to the reality commercial beekeepers face. Numerous commercial beekeeping operations have reported honey bee losses ranging from 30-60% due to exposure to neonicotinoids, IGR's (insect growth regulator pesticides) and fungicides. The common belief expressed by honey bee health advocates is that the data is ambiguous and misleading to the uninformed. Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer discusses this controversial USDA survey with Gene Brandi. Gene Brandi is owner and operator of Gene Brandi Apiaries since 1978. He currently holds the office of President of the American Beekeeping Federation. Previously, he was President of the California State Beekeepers Association, and has been a member CSBA Board of Directors since 1978. Gene is also a board member, Project Apis-M, and past Chairman of the National Honey Board. Last week, a federal court ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) systematically violated the Endangered Species Act (ESA), a key wildlife protection law, when it approved the use of neonicotinoids, a family of deadly pesticides, scientifically proven to kill bees and other pollinators. EPA had unlawfully issued 59 pesticide registrations between 2007 and 2012 for a wide variety of agricultural, landscaping and ornamental uses. Although this is a big victory, unfortunately, there still is a very long way to go. What does this mean for the future of commercial migratory beekeepers? What will this mean as far as the protection of honey bees? Stay tuned! In this segment of The Neonicotinoid View, host, June Stoyer and co-host, Colorado beekeeper Tom Theobald talk about this law suit with commercial migratory beekeeper, Steve Ellis who is a plaintiff in the case. Steve Ellis owns the Old Mill Honey Company which operates roughly 2,300 hives of bees in Minnesota for honey production and pollination for crops in California. Steve is the secretary of the National Honeybee Advisory Board (NHAB) and has been involved in pesticide issues for the past 20 years. “The Neonicotinoid View”, which is produced by The Organic View Radio Show is unique, weekly program that explores the impact of neonicotinoids on the environment. Last year, the Flint Michigan water crisis brought international attention to a very disturbing reality pertaining to drinking water. This crisis has also brought attention to alternatives to areas near water sources that have issues with water quality. What if you could use water that would otherwise going into the sewer for drinking and irrigation purposes? One simply and economic solution is the use of an eco-friendly sump pump which not only recycles water but can actually provide purified drinking water. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to eco-mom and entrepreneur, Andrea Hartfelder, from Micro Environmental Control Systems. Andrea is going to talk about her experience living in this type of environment as well as her solution which focuses on water conservation and water purity. If you are interested in conserving water and understanding how this innovative green technology works, stay tuned! Have you ever gone into your basement and watched the water being pumped out of your sump and thought to yourself, “what a waste”? What if you could access the ground water on your own property through your sump? What if you could use this ground water for your home's water needs? You could repurpose the ground water for such things as: watering the lawn, drinking, bathing, cleaning, and normal household use! What if you could control the quality of the cleaning methods used on this water and potentially get a return on your investment in approximately 3 years (depending on your water usage)? With a Woda-Sci Sump Control System, you can save a significant amount of money with a properly configured home water purification system. It's easy, eco-friendly and economic!
