If you're feeling the weight of stress or need a fresh perspective on managing your health, this episode is for you—discover how laughter, self-awareness, and small changes can transform your life. More info, resources & ways to connect - https://www.tacosfallapart.com/podcast-live-show/podcast-guests/pete-alexander In this episode, MommaFoxFire welcomes Professor Pete Alexander to discuss the unexpected intersections of stress, diabetes and laughter yoga. Pete, a TEDx speaker, bestselling author and certified laughter yoga instructor, shares his journey of transforming his own health challenges into tools for helping others reduce stress and live healthier lives. The conversation kicks off with Pete explaining his career shift to interior landscaping, a field he grew to love despite the initial stress of running a business. Pete candidly discusses how chronic stress manifested in his life, eventually leading to a diagnosis of stress-induced diabetes. Ignoring warning signs like rapid weight loss, exhaustion and headaches, he powered through until a near-death experience in 2018 forced him to reevaluate everything. This wake-up call led him to adopt stress management techniques that not only improved his mental health but also positively impacted his blood sugar levels and overall well-being. Pete highlights how stress creates cellular inflammation, which contributes to chronic diseases like diabetes. He shares practical tips to identify stress early, such as noticing mood swings, sleep disruptions or physical tension in the shoulders. Importantly, he urges listeners not to trade their health for their careers, emphasizing that health and time are our most valuable assets. The conversation takes a lighter turn as Pete dives into the magic of laughter yoga. He explains how even fake laughter can trigger the release of endorphins, improving mood and lowering stress. Pete shares moving stories from his laughter yoga classes, including how participants overcame grief, trauma and depression simply by laughing together. Laughter yoga, he notes, connects us to our inner child and reminds us of the joy we experienced as kids. Pete also encourages listeners to try simple strategies like laughing at red lights or stressful moments to instantly shift their mindset. He describes laughter yoga as a way to build community and break down barriers, helping people of all ages and backgrounds find relief in laughter's universal language. The episode wraps up with advice for high-achieving professionals: define your core values. Pete explains that aligning decisions with personal values can prevent unnecessary stress and create a more balanced life. He also stresses the importance of setting boundaries with work, like unplugging during vacations, to fully recharge. Packed with relatable anecdotes, humor and actionable tips, this episode is a reminder to listen to your body, embrace joy and prioritize your health before it's too late.

Laughter as Medicine: Conquering Stress with Professor Pete Alexander On this episode of Make Mental Health Matter, Kelli laughs with Professor Pete Alexander. During his 35+ year career he has had the privilege to work in a variety of positions including Sales, Marketing, College Professor and Small Business Owner. Each role had one thing in common - high stress - to the point he was diagnosed with stress-related diabetes and ended up in the hospital with a severe case of diabetic ketoacidosis, a few hours away from being comatose. It was a reality check for him. When you don't have your health, not much else matters. He knew it was time for him to walk away even though he had a great job, secure income, and good benefits. Interestingly, his coworkers and peers were very supportive and most of them told him they admired his decision to put his health first before his career because they were contemplating the same thing. He realized then that it wasn't just him, and now he helps other hard-driving leaders avoid my mistakes and immensely benefit from the wonderful tools and techniques he has learned and experienced first-hand. In addition to a video series, he launched a book on Amazon, which became an international bestseller. He has also been a popular guest on many podcasts and radio shows, and was selected as a TEDx speaker. He is also a professional hiking tour leader, a certified Laughter Yoga teacher and improv comedy cast member, where he enjoys bringing laughter to his community. Professor Pete Alexander is the President of the greatest interior landscaping company in the San Francisco Bay Area - Office Plants by Everything Grows. In addition, he has served as an adjunct college professor for several universities, where he helped inspire thousands of students to develop and apply key concepts of marketing specifically to their area of interest. He's also a TEDx speaker and best-selling author on reducing stress in your everyday life. Lastly, but certainly not least, he is a certified Laughter Yoga leader and improv comedy cast member, supporting his community to laugh more and stress less. On this special co-host conversation episode, Jennie and Michelle are joined by returning guest Heather Higgins of Novel Expressions, who will be facilitating the event. Together, they talk about the hows-and-whys of the event and what listeners can expect from attending and adapting the content to their own lives.  The event is a two-day of workshops, vendors, creativity classes, and reflection designed to facilitate R.E.A.L change; which stands for “Reflective, Experiential, Adaptable, Learning.” Our audiences are invited to connect with other podcast listeners as they learn from previous podcast guests like dance instructor Jake Trembath, entrepreneur Mary Crafts, and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) practitioner Aimee Snow. New guests include keynote speaker Jeff Olsen, Laughter Yoga guided by Cardin Martin, and Financial Resilience with Joe Taylor. And of course, our hosts’ Jennie Taylor and Michelle, will be guiding discussions as well.  Discover the power of resilience through genuine connections and empowered growth, where space is given for Reflective thinking, Experiential activities, Adaptable strategies, and lifelong Learning. We can’t wait to share this transformative experience with you! Reserve your spot at the retreat today at RelentlesslyResilient.com.  Please note that this event is not sponsored by KSL Podcasts or any related entity, but is brought to you by the hosts’ of Relentlessly Resilient solely. Hosts Jennie Taylor and Michelle Scharf are no strangers to overcoming adversity; Michelle lost her husband to cancer, while Jennie’s husband, Major Brent Taylor, was killed in the service of our country. Their stories bond them together, and now listeners can join them weekly as they visit with others enduring challenges and who teach us how they are exercising resiliency, finding value in their grief, and purpose in moving forward.  Presented by Minky Couture, makers of the most luxurious and soft blankets with a mission to share comfort and love during the special moments of life. American by birth, my heritage unknown. Twas two years ago on a musical journey My heart flew to Ireland on the wings of a note. * O Ireland, how I long for your valleys and mountains! How I long to see your hills and streams. From my home 'cross the ocean, I hear your voice singing, "Happy Birthday from Ireland, my child of the green! La la laa, la di la laa, la laa di la la Happy Birthday from Ireland, my child of the green!" My Da played the tunes on squeezebox and fiddle. And the songs they were tuned to the harp in my soul. St Paddy, ye never told me that I was Irish. 'Till I heard your voice singing, bringing me home. Now two years have passed and Ireland sings with me. In every song that flows from my voice and from harp. But I see your eyes smiling and your arms wide open. Lifting the Veil
Why Things Aren't Fully Manifesting - Embodiment Is Missing

Lifting the Veil

This is a love note. A love note to going all the way. Yes, your crown has been bought and paid for (so put it on your head and wear it), but the jewels in your crown aren't ALL activated if you haven't gone ALL the way. What is going all the way? It's realizing what the signs (repeating numbers, song lyrics that get stuck in your head, finding feathers, meeting people with the same birthday as you etc.), are guiding you to either let go of, move forward with OR embody. Embodiment is the missing piece. The hardest one to implement. The hardest one to pick up on. It's subtle and takes great awareness - and commitment to actively embody your gratitude! To actively embody your joy! Until you reach those upper echelons of frequencies - love is 500, joy is 540, peace is 600, and whatever else you are guided to embody - patience, gratitude, kindness, confidence etc. your desires - and what the universe has previewed to you is possible, won't fully manifest (because everything you want manifests at 500 and above!). Remember, what you want already exists. You just aren't at the frequency of it yet - you have not become a match for that which you desire. Embodiment is that missing piece as even some of the best healers, painters, singers etc. have such healing gifts for humanity, but can't get it out there in a bigger, more impactful way because they haven't gone all the way. The crown is there, but not lit up. Keep going. I believe in you! Cathy has been teaching worm composting for over 2 decades (her WHY is so inspiring!), and has been teaching Laughter yoga for several years now - she has a weekly Chuckle Club zoom meeting on Tuesday mornings. I attended one of Cathy's Chuckle Club meetings, and let me tell you how awkward it felt to be silly and make myself laugh (even harder when at work); I didn't realize that it takes practice to let go when we work so hard at staying busy... But laughter really IS the best medicine, and Cathy talks about why that is in this conversation. As I'm pasting all of these links, I'm laughing, because Cathy told me she doesn't have a cell phone, which sounds  weird in 2024, but she doesn't seem to be missing it; she has more links than I do!I so enjoyed the chance to hang out with Cathy and learn from her.  She seems to lead  a super maintained, but I have a feeling she values her "down time" just as well...You can find Cathy Nesbitt at any of the links belowCathy's worm composting website: https://www.cathyscomposters.com/Her Laughter Yoga page: https://www.cathyscomposters.com/She has a Linkedin page: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cathynesbitt/Her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/rhgn2112Twitter/X: https://twitter.com/SquirmAnd please check out the Chuckle Club - your mind and body will thank you later!Cathy's Chuckle Club (est June 2020) - Free 9:30 AM Eastern Time, Every Tuesday 30 minutes super fun, self care. Register in advance for this meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAtd-6prjsvG90wmlw3tRazNqiTzSG4Qq_s Support the Show. Please follow Grounded In Maine podcast on Instagram here , or on Facebook hereYouTube channel link is here You can DM me there, post, or email me at amysgardenjam@gmail.com. Are you craving meat or are you craving the hormones in the meat because your body is not properly reminerialized? Remember, green beans have 50% less calcium than they did 30 years ago. Why? Because the soil is so depleted. Being under so much stress also depletes us of minerials. And, so does our absorption level. Absorption? If one has never cleansed, ie removed the plaque from the lining of the colon wall, gotten rid of parasites, and balanced the microbiome in their gut, well… then… the most minerial dense foods, greenest powders and best supplements won't make a difference. They won't be absorbed. And your energy levels will continue to feel low. Enter Tori Vargas! Tori is a wealth of knowledge - and wisdom, as she shares her journey to healing after 10 rounds of chemo that left her weak and exhausted along with a protocol that made her question her own path to becoming a doctor or nurse in the Western medical system. She shares her journey with extreme cleansing (because, well, you know… you want that tumor, inflammation, autoimmune gone now!), and how juicing and eating only fruit as her cleansing protocol left her depleted (brittle nails, missed periods, hair falling out). This led her to discover reminerialization. Ah, balance. Be sure to check out her website, where you can work with her one-on-one, group cleansing opportunities, and, her new venture, Iris Herbals. As a nod to her grandmother, Iris Herbals, offers herbal formulations of the same quality and potency Tori and her teacher were using for themselves and private clients. During his 35+ year career, Professor Pete Alexander had the privilege to work in a variety of positions including Sales, Marketing, College Professor and Small Business Owner. Each role had one thing in common - high stress - to the point he was diagnosed with stress-related diabetes and ended up in the hospital with a severe case of diabetic ketoacidosis, a few hours away from falling into a coma!It was a reality check! When you don't have your health, not much else matters. Prof. Pete knew it was time for me to walk away even though I had a great job, secure income, and good benefits. Interestingly, his coworkers and peers were very supportive and most of them told him they admired his decision to put health first before career, because they were contemplating the same thing. He realized then that it wasn't just him, and set out to help other hard-driving leaders avoid the same mistakes and immensely benefit from the wonderful tools and techniques he has learned and experienced first-hand. In addition to a video series, Professor Pete has launched a book on Amazon, which became an international bestseller. He was selected as a TEDx speaker and best of all,  he is a certified Laughter Yoga teacher and improv comedy cast member! Thank You Pete for sharing your inspiring story!LINK HERE:Site: https://petealexander.comSupport the show

Katy has always used humor to diffuse stress and anxiety of patients but was intrigued to learn more of the practice of Laughter Yoga when her work started an Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. She traveled three hours to participate in several programs before taking the leap into becoming a Laughter Leader, and then after a few years to become a Laughter Teacher. Katy is known as the Laughing Nurse. With a quick wit that creates laughter, patients and staff feel welcomed and engaged in their own journey. With a magnetic, captivating and high spirited style, participants after a session comment on how they feel calm but energized through the use of this Mirthful Medicine. Katy believes in education and that stress management is important as stress is a risk factor for job satisfaction. Working in healthcare has always been stressful but since COVID started it has elevated the stress and disconnect to new levels never seen before. For this reason, healthcare teams are currently at high risk and needing tools in order to survive these trying times. Laughter is a simple and fun tool for reconnecting teams, reenergizing staff, and reducing stress for health professionals in the workplace. Three separate studies have shown that regular laughter sessions increased Workplace Wellbeing by connecting people. It increases oxygen in our lungs by 25% which when distributed to the body cells improves energy levels and also to the brain which helps us think more effectively. And a 45 minute session of Laughter Yoga decreased participants' stress by up to 65%. A Sgori study on using comedy to make participants laugh and be happy showed that they work more productively due to improved morale. Katy Maag BSN, RN, CCRP is a Registered Nurse in a Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit where she assists heart patients in stress management and heart health education. She is a Stress Management Coach, Laughter Therapist and Teacher, a Member of the American College of Cardiology, American Association of Cardiac Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and active in advocating for Heart Health and Mental Health for healthcare teams and patients at a national level. She has been nominated as a Nurse of Hope and presented several times for The Ohio American Association of Cardiac Pulmonary Rehabilitation. https://www.kmwellnessconsulting.com/
