Join our conversation with Computer Scientist, Researcher and long-time pal Michael Timothy Bennett in our latest episode of @thesoapyraoshow.Michael is a computer scientist with the Australian National University. His research explores intelligence from first principles, blending philosophical arguments, math proofs and experimental results. He presented a unified theory of consciousness, meaning and artificial superintelligence at the 2023 conference on artificial general intelligence, for which he won a best paper award. He has also been quoted and published by prominent news organizations including Newsweek, Quillette and The Conversation. He was previously co-founder and COO of Eigen Technologies in London and has worked in game development across four continents on well-known franchises including The Sims, Sniper Elite and Total War. His path to research was circuitous, which helped cultivate the breadth of expertise needed for transdisciplinary artificial general intelligence research. He was first admitted to an undergraduate program on the basis of his musical ability, and now holds degrees in music from Queensland Conservatorium, management science from London Business School, and computer science from The Australian National University.     On this week's episode, we have the incredible Madhulika Liddle. Madhulika is an author, historian, blogger and film enthusiast. Her first novel The Englishman's Cameo was launched in October 2009, with a French edition released in 2010 by Editions Philippe Picquier. The Englishman's Cameo was well received and was followed by The Eighth Guest & Other Muzaffar Jang Mysteries (a collection of short stories), Engraved in Stone, and Crimson City (the latter two novels).Madhulika has written a range of short stories in different genres. Several of these have won awards (including the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association Awards Short Story Competition, for A Morning Swim, in 2003) or have been selected for anthologies. Madhulika's non-fiction writing includes travel writing, humor, and writing on classic cinema. She is the founder of Drama Queen, a Documentary theatre company, that focusses on personal histories & archival absences to extend the idea of theatre to create audacious work. Undocumented narratives, gender in performance, research and iterations around form and process are critical to her performance and pedagogical work. She was artist-in-residence at Art Lab Gnesta, Sweden (2015), and Srishti Institute of Art Design & Technology, Bangalore (2017). Anuja is the co-curator of the international workshop series on Documentary Theatre with her German collaborator––that programmed artists like Boris Nikitin, Rimini Protokoll, Zhao Chuan and Gobsquad. As visiting faculty at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology since 2016, she leads practice-based pedagogy. In the past, she was programme officer at India Foundation for the Arts, film programmer for Experimenta and India researcher for University of Westminster.     Josh Misner started college at Washington State University as a physics major, partly because he thought he wanted to pursue theoretical physics as a career after having worked in research and development for a manufacturing company. His first calculus class cured him of that desire.After deciding to have a third child, he along with his family moved to the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho area, where he transferred to North Idaho College. That was where he fell in love with the academic field of communication.He then transferred to Gonzaga University, where he fell in love with the Jesuit model of education, and he never left.
