TV Producer Dan Schneider and Arianna Grande The documentary Quiet on Set alleges that Nickelodeon has a history of sexual abuse by producer Dan Schneider, production assistant Jason  Handy and assistant director/writer Brian Peck. The documentary also claims that Dan Schneider, the creator and producer of The Amanda Show, ran a hierarchical and demanding workplace, and that he facilitated Amanda Bynes's running away from home and attempted emancipation.    The documentary includes interviews with Drake Bell, who came forward about the child sexual abuse he faced in the docuseries' first run, and with two former writers on The Amanda Show, Christy Stratton and Jenny Kilgen, who allege that there was an abusive environment in the writers' room.    Peck, a dialogue coach on shows including The Amanda Show and All That, was convicted of sexually abusing a minor in 2004. The child's identity was kept private and records were sealed.    Schneider denied the claims, arguing that network executives approved all stories, dialogue, costumes, and makeup, and that a standards and practices group read and approved every script.

This week, Jason is joined by actress and singer turned entrepreneur, investor, and food and lifestyle advocate Daniella Monet!      Many may know Daniella from her television and movie performances over the last 20 years, including Victorious, Zoey 101, and Nancy Drew, but after years of appearing on television screens, she has gone on to pivot from acting to focus on the development of her nutritional  business and investments. She has been exercising her entrepreneurial spirit by paving the way for vegan companies to make a mark on the industry. Daniella gives insight to why she doesn't have an agent, how money was a topic of conversation while growing up, why she made the decision to be a vegan, how she decides to make her investments,  and how she started her app Daniella's Digest. Daniella also reveals how many different side hustles she has had and which was the most profitable, her secret to memorizing lines, why she chose to get her GED equivalent to give herself more opportunities in the entertainment space, and what she would invest in right now if given a million dollars. Do films or television shows pay better? What should consumers know when deciding to go vegetarian or vegan? What was the worst investment she ever made? What is next for Daniella?   PLUS, Jason chats with listener Shawnna about the world of copywriting. Shawnna breaks down what a day in the life of a copywriter can look like, the different education paths that can be taken, what the income looks like, and how she went on to double her income in less than six months by starting her own business. Double Dare began when Nickelodeon was looking for more programming to play after school, and a sponsor suggested a kid's game show instead of a cartoon! What resulted was a fun, exciting mixture of trivia, dares, physical challenges, and the famed obstacle course! Before our full review, Steve and Megan reminisce about wanting to be on Double Dare, and talk about how the show influenced everything from playground design to camp games. We also revisit Sour Patch Kids and learn some surprising history about this sweet and sour candy.  Did the show live up to our expectations? Were we amazed at the prizes given out by the show? It isn't summer until you go to summer camp! So this week, we revisit the beloved Nickelodeon TV show Salute Your Shorts! Salute Your Shorts began as a collection of short stories before being developed as a pilot by Propaganda Films. It took a year for Nickelodeon to green-light the project, but once it was on the air, it was an instant hit with kids who were too old for cartoons, but too young for prime time dramas.  Before our full review, Steve reminisces about Boy Scout Camp, Megan admits to loving an academic camp, Steve makes fun of Megan for going to an academic camp, and we snack on our childhood favorite, Oreo Dirt! Did the show live up to our expectations? Did Megan recover from the mockery of her academic camp? We're very excited to begin producing new episodes again in the new year of 2021. In this episode, Marshall flies solo to reflect on 2020 and discuss one of his favorite shows, "House of Anubis." 2020 was a very rough year for many reasons, but there were still some moments and memories that shine through the darkness. Through the miserable days of quarantine and the pandemic, Marshall talks about how much he's learned about himself and the nature of true friendships. 2020 also brought a national conversation about racism to center stage in the United States, providing many lessons and calls to actions to conquer systematic racism and recognize implicit bias. After the 2020 discussion, Marshall launches into rambling about "House of Anubis," a Nickelodeon TV series that ran from 2011 until 2013 centering on students living in a boarding school with relationship drama while uncovering an ancient Egyptian mystery. Marshall raves about the series' creative storylines and characters that reveal a deeper theme of the importance of true, compassionate friendship. For Carson Rowland, acting has been a serious passion for as long has he can remember. After years on stage pursuing musical theater, Carson made his way into the film and TV arena by landing the role of Riley Sturgis in the TV series, Tweet: The Series, in 2015 for 5 episodes. Not long after, he booked the series regular role of Cole Reyes, in the Nickelodeon TV series, I Am Frankie. Carson has a BS in Neuroscience from Florida Atlantic University. Growing up in Florida, Carson’s parents chose to homeschool their four children, which included an older brother, twin sister and younger sister. As a youngster, Carson went to a musical theatre class and was immediately hooked. “I knew right away I liked it. I was really focused on music from about age eight, starting piano lessons, then guitar. I wasn’t working toward any goal, I just really enjoyed it.” Although he claims neither of his parents have any artistic leanings, he and his siblings all excel in the arts. His brother Connor is a gifted piano player who often works with Carson on music, and both his twin sister Carolynn and youngest sister Catherine are accomplished ballerinas who left home in their teens to study their craft. When Carson was 16, he heard from a girl he had homeschooled with who was starring in a web series called TWEET. The show was looking to fill a role for the second season and she suggested he audition. He booked the role of “Riley Sturgis,” which resulted in several auditions with Nickelodeon, eventually landing him one of the leads in Nick’s first global series, I AM FRANKIE. After Carson finished filming the second season of I AM FRANKIE, he got a part in the Lifetime movie DREAM KILLER as “Bailey,” the love interest of lead character “Mia,” played by Taylor Castro, herself an actor-musician. The two hit it off immediately. “Taylor and I became close friends, we just really connected. She had written a song called “Don’t Know What to Say” and invited me to re-record it with her as a duet.” Fans fully embraced both song and video, and the chemistry between the two. The pair soon found themselves in Georgia – Carson filming the upcoming Netflix series SWEET MAGNOLIAS and Taylor at the Savannah College of Art and Design – and writing music together. “Writing songs with Taylor is the greatest thing ever. We have a synergy when we write together and I think our work together is pretty unique.” When he isn’t recording and writing new songs, or guest starring on the hit ABC TV series American Housewife as a football player with a secret, Carson can be found keeping his 4.0 grade point average intact as he finishes his degree in Neuroscience. “Since 2016, my career has taken off, so why not pursue what I love? But I need a plan B no matter what; if one day, I need a change, the option to go in to medicine will be there. I have a huge sense of pride in what I’ve accomplished so far, balancing my career with schooling, and I am just going to go wherever the road takes me.” Show Links twitter.com/carsonrowland instagram.com/carsonrowland https://www.imdb.com/name/nm7605654/

[Digital Gonzo 2013] This is the first of two podcasts for 2013 covering the first 29 years of Turtle history, from their monochrome single issue comic book published by Mirage Studios back in 1984 all the way up to the new Nickelodeon TV show in 2012. It's hard to remember now for some of us who were there at the time but turtlemania was a thing and we shall remind you of it. For the younger listeners this will be a window into what things were like back then, with all the comics, toys and cheesy merchandise discussed. This episode covers their creation and early years, the 80's TV show, renamed Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in the UK, the first movie from 1990 which has held up surprisingly well and bears much of the focus of this podcast, followed by its two atrocious sequels and the temporary bullet in the head of the franchise, the late 90's live action Saban show “The Next Mutation”. Next week we will be looking at the more serious second animated series originally released in 2003 as well as the fourth (and best) movie and the new, third animated show, which is actually rather excellent.  With the fifth theatrical movie in production for release in 2014, not coincidentally their 30th anniversary as well as not one but two major TMNT video games being released in the Autumn of this year there has never been a better time to get re-acquainted with Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael.  Guests: Neil Taylor of TheKidDogg Matt Ramsey of GamerDork
