RNZ understands the death of four people at the scene of a Manawatu house fire is being treated as a murder suicide. They included three children - August, Hugo and Goldie, aged 7, 5 and 1. The fourth person to die was their father. Nick James reports.

Police are still searching for the body of a child who died alongside two other children and an adult in a house fire just south of Sanson. Nick James has been at the scene since yesterday afternoon and spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.

It's fair to say that Gareth Morgan has led a varied life. Now the economist, businessman and philanthropist - turned politician has taken on perhaps his most curious project to date. The 72-year-old has turned his hand to creating a sculpture trail in the hills north of Wellington, with purpose-built works by local and international artists, some of which are bigger than houses. Nick James was given the opportunity to take a tour of the rich lister's unusual property.

A group of Wellington students have turned a page on history today, moving some of the last books into the capital's redeveloped central Library. Te Matapihi was forced to close its doors in 2019 when it was deemed earthquake prone but is set to reopen next year, after a spend of $216 million. Nick James reports.

A mental health helpline is calling on the government for financial support as it plans to cut back its services. Lifeline Aotearoa says its facing a funding shortfall, which means it will have to stop running as a 24 hour, seven day a week operation. It comes a day after a depression treatment centre in Wellington says it will be forced to close. Nick James reports.

A treasure trove of movie history has gone under the hammer in Lower Hutt, with items from a private Wellington cinema being sold off. "A slap in the face". That's the response from a Resene worker over the latest pay offer from the paint company to its factory workers. Employees, unions and supporters gathered outside Resene's head office in Lower Hutt this morning. An overwhelming majority of New Zealanders support the government putting a cap on the amount councils can increase rates each year, according to the RNZ-Reid Research poll. The rain may have stopped but the cleanup continues for residents of the Tasman town of Wakefield, which was badly hit in the recent floods. Officials say the region is currently transitioning from a state of emergency and into recovery mode a task residents are warned will be long and hard. Nick James reports.

After a weekend of major flooding, Motueka Valley residents are already being warned to brace for yet another potential deluge later this week. The area has been one of the hardest hit by flooding after the Motueka River burst its banks amid torrential rain on Friday and into Saturday. Nick James reports.
