An unofficial select committee run by ten former MPs from across the political spectrum has found that last year's pay equity changes should be repealed. The People's Select Committee on Pay Equity heard nearly 1400 substantive submissions on the law changes which canned 33 pay equity claims. Experts say it is safe to swim in the city's harbour despite the massive Moa Point sewage spill - but locals Checkpoint spoke still aren't up for taking a dip so close to the contaminated site. It comes after a catastrophic failure wastewater treatment plant started pumping out millions of litres of raw sewage into the ocean nearly a week ago. Nick James reports.

All eyes are on the government's response to the Moa Point sewage plant meltdown. Wellington Water's chief executive is warning the public the capital's south coast could be off limits for months. Meanwhile the city's mayor wants a ministerial inquiry. Crews have spent the weekend trying to clean up the wastewater plant and get to the damage after it was shut after being flooded by raw sewage. In the meantime, millions of litres of untreated sewage have been spilling out into the Cook Strait since early Wednesday. Nick James reports.

The man found guilty of five counts of murder over the Loafers Lodge blaze will spend a minimum of 22 years behind bars. Esarona David Lologa was found guilty in September of setting the Wellington boarding house alight in May 2023, which killed five residents. Nick James reports.

Graveripper, a black thrash band from Indianapolis, returns with their heaviest album yet, "From Welkin to Tundra." It's fair to say that Gareth Morgan has led a varied life. Now the economist, businessman and philanthropist - turned politician has taken on perhaps his most curious project to date. The 72-year-old has turned his hand to creating a sculpture trail in the hills north of Wellington, with purpose-built works by local and international artists, some of which are bigger than houses. A mental health helpline is calling on the government for financial support as it plans to cut back its services. Lifeline Aotearoa says its facing a funding shortfall, which means it will have to stop running as a 24 hour, seven day a week operation. A treasure trove of movie history has gone under the hammer in Lower Hutt, with items from a private Wellington cinema being sold off.
