The rain may have stopped but the cleanup continues for residents of the Tasman town of Wakefield, which was badly hit in the recent floods. Officials say the region is currently transitioning from a state of emergency and into recovery mode a task residents are warned will be long and hard. Nick James reports.

After a weekend of major flooding, Motueka Valley residents are already being warned to brace for yet another potential deluge later this week. The area has been one of the hardest hit by flooding after the Motueka River burst its banks amid torrential rain on Friday and into Saturday. Nick James reports.

The government's radical overhaul of pay equity laws is having its final reading in Parliament, with opposition parties fuming that the controversial reforms are being rail-roaded through under urgency. Workplace Minister Brooke van Velden on Tuesday announced the government will raise the threshold for proving work has been historically undervalued when making a pay equity claim. Nick James joins Emile Donovan from the capital where MetService have warned of a threat to life from flying items and falling trees.

It's taken the best part of a decade but sod has finally been turned on Wellington's Golden mile upgrade. The $116 million dollar plan was part of the "Let's Get Wellington Moving" intiative before it was canned and is supposed to transform the capital's entertainment precinct. But some local businesses who will be affected by the upgrade say the timing is off - and one bar reckons it could be the final straw that sinks nearby businesses. Nick James reports.

Drivers wanting to travel faster on State Highways around the country will soon get their wish. 38 sections of the roading network will be reversed back to their previous higher speed limits by NZTA over the next five months. It brings an end to speed reductions brought in under the last Labour Government. There are concerns that faster speeds could lead to more crashes on our roads, but the government insists the changes are safe. Nick James reports.

There's hope that the sale of a large, derelict building will breathe new life into Wellington's CBD. Real estate group Prime Property has bought the Reading Cinemas building on Courtenay Place but has yet to reveal its plans. Nick James reports.

Police estimate about 42,000 people turned up for the demonstration to voice opposition to the coalition government's Treaty Principals Bill. Thousands of those who attended today's hikoi to Parliament have descended on Waitangi Park to wrap things up. Police estimate that 42,000 people attended the demonstration to voice their opposition to ACT's Treaty Principals Bill. The group has now moved to the park near Te Papa where a concert is being held this evening. Nick James has been with the group today and spoke to Lisa Owen from Waitangi Park.
