Let's face it: it's easier to talk about life rather than the end of it. But the reality is, we're all going to face it at some point in our lives. What if there's a platform that can guide you step-by-step to your journey through the dying process? For this episode, we speak to Jane Butler, founder of the online planning platform for end-of-life navigation called Near. She started being aware of the importance of end-of-life conversations when her fiancé (now husband) was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 23 and was given 2 years to live. Now her husband is cancer-free, Jane researched more about non-profit organizations focused on end-of-life care, health, and awareness and came up with the idea of founding Near. NEAR focuses on patients and caregivers of patients who have a terminal illness and serves as a platform and self-care home for them while navigating through paperwork and health care appointments. The Near Navigators or end-of-life doulas also provide one-on-one emotional support even for families to help understand what is happening during this difficult time. Sign up on staynear.co to know more about their services and offers and get more updates on their upcoming app soon. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The last in a series of episodes on the elements, this latest Moon to Moon episode holds teachings and conversation about working with the element of Earth in your life and in your magical offering to the world. My honored guest for this effort is Virgo Sun Luis Mojica of Holistic Life Navigation. For reasons that will be apparent when listening here, I knew that Luis would be my first choice for a contemplation on Earth as soon as I dreamed of having one. Luis's direct bio: "My name is Luis Mojica. I teach people how to release stress & trauma through listening to their bodies. I am a trained somatic therapist, whole food nutritional counselor, & herbalist. My work is a result of my own journey to heal complex PTSD & illness. We can connect to our bodies through listening, to the Earth through eating and feeling, and to ourselves through mindful awareness. From this place, we can heal anything." On so many levels, Luis is talking and teaching about the element of Earth: food / nutrition / eating, body listening / knowing / awareness, herbal medicine, somatic therapy, forest bathing, grounding practices, and connecting with the planet in relationship. As I share in the intro, working with Earth for me has been an important piece of my own healing process because I was once acutely disassociated from my body. My body was always a problem. Being here in this lifetime, being fully present with awareness and connection, deep listening to my body's needs: all of that used to be very scary for me, so I found safety in escaping. Because Luis's work and my own story involve healing trauma, please be advised and give thought to whether or not you have the capacity to receive this episode today. In my view, Luis has become something of a living Chiron, which we discuss in our conversation. To learn more about Chiron, I recommend starting with this Liz Greene article titled “Wounding & the Will to Live.” I also recommend my mentor Adam Sommer's episode on Chiron in Aries (the sign Chiron is currently in as well as my own writing on Chiron from the Living the Signs: Virgo book, a snippet of which you can find here. Follow Luis on Instagram at @holisticlifenavigation, check out his incredible podcast (start with episodes 1 and 2), and find out how to work with him at www.holisticlifenavigation.com where you can get on the waitlist for the next round of his Releasing Trauma class. +++ Join the waitlist for The Magician's Table: A Workshop Circle for Emerging Readers, which opens for application on Friday, March 12. This episode is a big one, and I want to invite you to join me in stepping into 2021 with a goal of resisting ourselves less. Self resistance comes in so many forms, and this resistance leads to our unhappiness, unfulfilment and 'stuckness' in life. What is it in your life, or within you, that you could be resisting? We resist ourselves because we feel we aren't worthy enough to BE exactly who we are. Do you find it easier to give to others than to receive from them? When we resist ourselves, everything in life - our relationships, our jobs, family relations, etc. - all have restrictions put in place that bar unconditional love from being present. It's impossible to be in any unconditionally loving relationship (romantic or not), if you are not able to unconditionally love yourself. And what really is "unconditional" love? Take whatever resonates with you from this Podcast, and take 1 step towards progress with it, whether it's a problem I mentioned, or a solution. What we talk about in this Episode: 1. Resistance in your life 2. The ease of giving rather than receiving 3. Where we place our Value 4. What is love? 5. Doing things to only "Get" 6. Unconditional love and your relationship with yourself 7. Distractions = Self Avoidance 8. "Covering up" and how we resist allowing people to know WHO we are 9. Resistance as worthiness I would love to hear from you! In HIS Name HR has a mission to provide world-class Human Resources support to both profit and non-profit organizations. Proper HR practices will help achieve organizational results. Please welcome him to the community! Episode Breakdown 00:50 - Meet Mark Griffin 1:25 - Mark's Path to Now 2:25 - Mark's Story to Faith 4:50 - Mark's Journey to Lancaster 6:15 - In HIS Name HR, LLC 9:45 - Mark's Services to his Clients 13:40 - "College to Career" - Mark's Book 15:15 - Mark's Advice for Keeping Your Faith Engaged 18:05 - Find a Mentor 19:15 - Become A Modern Day Disciple with your Work 24:40 - Connect With Mark Love People A good reminder for all of us during these times and beyond is to love people. Love people where they are, who they are, and for what they are at all times. This is probably one of the most difficult things we struggle with because emotions are scattered from week to week, month to month, and even year to year. Mark highlights this as one of the most important things we can do for each other in times of need. How do we love people more? It all starts with judgment and grace. We need to judge less, be more understanding, and extend grace to everyone around us. As we all know, we are not perfect but being made in the image of God is powerful and we should all strive to be more like Jesus every day! Find a Mentor This applies to everyone. Whether you have a job or not, a mentor is the most influential and steady sources of support you can get. When we apply it across our lives, especially in the workplace, we understand that nothing can be obtained just by ourselves. Find someone who knows more than you and pushes you to be better at your craft. Build a deeper relationship with someone that provides you with greater strength when the times are tough, and less friction when you need to get something done. Mark speaks to the fact that he could have never been as successful as he is without successful people around him helping him. That is our prayer for everyone listening. Find a mentor, trust in them, and start building a more successful YOU! Interview Quote " We need to love everyone where they are, we can't judge, we can't question.. We need to love people and leave the judgement to the Lord" Connect with Mark Mark's LinkedIn In HIS Name HR Website In HIS Name HR Facebook Mark's Book: How to Build "Kingdom - Minded" Organizations Mark's Book: College to Career - The Student Guide to Career and Life Navigation Connect With Follower Of One Join us over in our Online Community, get social with us; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn and subscribe to our YouTube channel. We hear about how important it is to "have boundaries", but what does that even mean? We have to be able to feel our boundaries before we can ever express them. Can we have too many boundaries? What do boundaries have to do with racism? We explore it all in this episode where I am joined by 4 of my colleagues for a round table discussion about boundaries through the holistic lens of somatic therapy. To see clearly in life is so tricky, due to the sheer volume of information out there. How do you have a true perspective? To not perceive what is going on around you can be…devastating. It might be the difference between you making it to your destination or disaster. Crystal and I talk about how an ALERT navigation exercise illustrates this. What is the light in the dark? What can give you principals for every minute of every day? We have found that the Bible has the answers for those that are willing to really look at it with an attitude of action. THE JOURNEY TO ACCEPT AND CELEBRATE “YOU” with RON ARDEN, Life Navigator Ron Arden, life navigator, was Director of the Substance Abuse Prevention Program (SAPP) in the Mamaroneck, NY School District. He was also a frequent lecturer at faculty and community seminars. Ron returned to private practice in 2004 with a fresh perspective on working with people as a Life Navigator™. He adopted a fresh and very straightforward approach, “helping people get from where they are… to where they want to go in life.”™ We will be discussing how to stay focused on your ‘who’ while others may focus on your ‘what.’ This conversation will aim at: Understanding the distinctions between “Who we are,” “What we are,” and “What we Do” and knowing where we go for validation.
