We start this morning in Tai Rāwhiti, where a state of emergency has been declared as rain continues to fall in the region. The most severe red weather warning is in place, with significant flooding expected over the next few days. Te Karaka is already cut off, and more than one hundred residents chose to evacuate last night. Metservice meteorologist Lisa Murray spoke to Corin Dann.
Winter is getting closer with thunderstorms and hail in Auckland last night, and a heavy snow watch today over parts of the South Island, Te Wai Pounamu. It wasn't easy to get a good night sleep last night in the upper North Island, where the MetService recorded about 1,200 lightning strikes. Auckland alone recorded nearly 350 strikes overnight as four bands of thunderstorms swept through. And at the southern end of the country, the forecast snow has arrived, bringing an end to unseasonably warm temperatures. In this episode, I am sharing a real live session where I coached Lisa Murray. Lisa is a Nurse Coach, and a visionary, who likes to help clients identify their own vision. She doesn't like to work - She likes to play! The intersection of Coaching as play has been a game changer for her. In this raw coaching session, we dive into a bunch of different topics like imposter syndrome, boundaries around technology, and being visible as your most authentic self. I hope this episode will give all of you an idea of what coaching can look like, and illustrate that it doesn't have to be all “a-ha” moments and huge breakthroughs… but it can simply be holding space for someone, asking powerful questions, and having them reflect and process through things in their own human experience. I'll be sharing more of these coaching sessions on the podcast this year, so I'm excited for you to listen! Rain is falling - again - on flood-ravaged areas of Tai Rāwhiti and the Coromandel. A heavy rain watch is in force for Gisborne from Tolaga Bay upwards, and that'll extend to Coromandel later this morning. There has already been some heavy rain overnight, with a burst of 20 millimetres between 1 and 2am, and some other isolated heavy falls. Further afield, another two cyclones could be brewing in the Pacific, but they are unlikely to be headed for New Zealand. MetService head of communications Lisa Murray spoke to Kim Hill.
Heavy rain appears to be on its way to Hawke's Bay and Tai Rāwhiti on Thursday and Friday, after a week of relative calm following Cyclone Gabrielle. The stormy weather could be at its worst in central areas of the North Island, from Taihape to Palmerston North. MetService head of weather communication Lisa Murray spoke to Guyon Espiner.
Metservice has issued a Severe thunderstorm watch for Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, Taupo, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay. Metservice forecaster Lisa Murray joins Kathryn for an update.
The North Island is in for more stormy weather on Thursday, with a new thunderstorm watch in place from 3pm. Thunderstorms could be severe for northern and central parts of the North Island, including the east coast. Metservice's Lisa Murray spoke to Kim Hill.
Cyclone Gabrielle is well off the coast of the country but her tail is coming back to flick up parts of the South and North islands. Metservice is forecasting isolated showers across the North Island, with localised downpours possible around the Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, and Hawke's Bay. More heavy rain is expected for Wellington and Wairarapa. MetService weather communicator Lisa Murray spoke to Kim Hill.
MetService says all wind warnings across the North Island have now gone, but there are some warning still in place for the top of the South Island. Metservice's Head of Weather Communications Lisa Murray says coastal Marlborough could see wind and rain but the swell is easing. She says the region should expect showers - these won't be as strong as those in the North Island but people should say alert and take care on the roads. Lisa Murray says there is a concern about a flick of a tail end of Gabrielle as it brings a front up the country. It could mean downpours, including 30 to 50 millimetres of rain in Hawkes Bay.
Cyclone Gabrielle is expected to continue moving slowly away to the southeast of New Zealand. Severe weather is easing in the top half of the North Island, but heavy rain is expected in central New Zealand through until Thursday Metservice's head of weather communications Lisa Murray spoke to Corin Dann.
Cyclone Gabrielle has taken a path of destruction across the North Island. Metservice head of weather communications Lisa Murray spoke to Corin Dann.
MetService says Cyclone Gabrielle is expected to continue moving southeast, tracking close to the east coast of the North Island, before moving away to the southeast from late Tuesday. Further signifIcant heavy rain and damaging winds are expected into Tuesday. MetService head of weather communications Lisa Murray spoke to Corin Dann.
