Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you're having a great start to 2025 and are poised to have a happy, healthy, and successful year. I'm excited to start off the podcast this year with my friend Kevin Wee, a Tableau creator and visualizer, who shares his journey into data visualization. Kevin's Tableau journey starts in 2019 at Purdue University where he faced challenges working with data, but grew in his ability to create interesting and engaging dashboards through creative projects and community involvement. Kevin and I talk about his approach to Tableau, how he incorporates other tools like Figma, PowerPoint, and Excel, and how he is using AI tools to help create better and better data tools. I hope you'll enjoy this week's episode of the show! Keywords: data, data visualization, PolicyVizPodcast, JonSchwabisch, KevinWee, Tableau, DataVisualization, TableauCreator, PurdueUniversity, BiomedicalProject, DataCareer, TableauPublic, MakeoverMonday, TableauAmbassador, DataTools, PowerPoint, Excel, TableauCommunity, Figma, InteractiveDashboards, TalkDataPodcastToMe, DataPodcasts, ChatGPT, SalesforceIntegration, AIDevelopment, DataIntegrity, DataHarmonization, DataAnalysts, FutureAmbitionsSubscribe to the PolicyViz Podcast wherever you get your podcasts.Become a patron of the PolicyViz Podcast for as little as a buck a monthFollow Kevin's Tableau Public page and check out his website.Follow me on Instagram, LinkedIn, Substack, Twitter, Website, YouTubeEmail: jon@policyviz.com
My favorite go-to person on all matters, Tableau and Dataviz, is Andy Kriebel.Andy was the first person to create a YouTube channel on Tableau. His subscriber base has surpassed 61,000, and his 750+ videos have 7.5 million views and counting.Andy is the co-author with Eva Murray of the book #Makeover Monday, and you can also follow his informative and insightful helpful hints each day on LinkedIn.In this conversation, we find out why Andy has been publishing online for more than ten years, why asking for a dashboard is rarely the right starting point for Dataviz, and why his five daily habits, which I found to be pure gold.

Are you ready for a makeover? Well transform your mind and watch your life transform. Focusing on the outward appearance is temporary. Who you really are is not based on what's on the outside. Work on your internal self, being nice instead of nagging or nasty, remain respectful not ratchet, stay mindful not manipulating. I don't care how much change your look, if you ugly on the inside than you still ugly, period. Your spirit is what outshines your outer shell. Makeover the inner you and you'll make this world a better place! Thank you for coming to this station of inspiration. Feel free to share this message with someone to help me inspire the world one person at a time. John Vella discovered his interest in hairstyling at the tender age of 13 when he helped his mother fix a haircut that she wasn’t happy with. After high school, he went on to cosmetology school in Pittsburgh to learn the trade that he hoped would fund his way through college. His love for hairdressing blossomed, and it ultimately took precedence over his plans to become an accountant. John’s first job was with Horne’s Department Store, and he quickly rose through the ranks in his corporate position, which eventually brought him to the West Coast. His passion and drive for his work led to opportunities to style hair for models and celebrities in fashion shows and glamorous red-carpet events. After a successful beginning to his career in California, John decided to relocate to Pittsburgh in the early 2000s to raise his family. Leaving corporate life behind, he opted for working in privately-owned salons in the Pittsburgh area. He also had a ten-year run as a guest on the “Makeover Monday” show on KDKA-TV. Recently, John started a new chapter in his life when he opened The John Vella Salon. He decided to take everything he has learned throughout his accomplished career and put it to work under his own brand. Today, John spends most of his time in his Pittsburgh salon, but he has continued to maintain a presence in San Francisco and Beverly Hills. If you have any questions or if you’d like to chat, you can reach me at my contact info below. Her first year here, Her teacher made fun of her in front of the whole class for not being able to make the “wh” sound. She promised herself right then she was going to master every single word in the English language. This early occurrence of bullying would cause her to question her relationships with authority figures, those most entrusted to shape our characters in our early days. And she joins Dr. Peter Sacco and Todd Miller to talk about those early experiences and how her books can help teens avoid bullying. Wrestling with words sparked an interest in writing, one that she has fully embraced with “Compulsion” and the sequel, “Persuasion“, hitting the bookshelves in October of 2015. Compulsion, her first book for teens from Simon & Schuster/Simon Pulse, is a SIBA Book Award nominee, an RT Book Reviews Top Pick and Editors’ Best of 2014 selection, a USA Today “Must-Read Paranormal,” and a Goodreads Best Book of the Month and Best YA Book of the Month. It’s an Okra Pick from the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance, and a Kansas State Reading Circle selection.Persuasion, the second book in the trilogy, will be released October 27, 2015.
