Send Steve a Text MessageEver wondered how to strike that perfect chord between playing a song note-for-note and weaving in the threads of your own musical identity? That's the question we unpack as I share my personal experiences and tips on balancing authenticity with innovation on the guitar. We traverse the landscape of music learning, discussing the golden days of ear-learning before the internet era, and how those practices shaped musicians into the artists they are today. Reflecting on the likes of Steve Vai, Tommy Emmanuel, and Michael Britt, we dissect the notion that perfection lies in replication, and instead, celebrate the quirks and individual flair that make guitar playing deeply personal.Embark with me as we zoom in on the distinctive styles of legendary guitarists, using Megadeth's Kiko Loureiro's fresh take on Marty Friedman's solos as a case study in artful adaptation. With no guests but a treasure trove of insights, this episode is an ode to the guitarist's journey of self-discovery—find out how improvisation, theory, and fretboard knowledge converge to help you sculpt a sound that's unapologetically yours. Whether it's respecting the original or reshaping a classic like "Cliffs of Dover" to suit your style, this conversation is a reminder that the strings of the guitar are as much about the music they play as the story they tell. Tune in, tune up, and let's celebrate the unique musical voice that's waiting to be heard through your six strings.Tune in now and learn more!Links:Steve's Channel → https://www.youtube.com/user/stinemus... In this episode of The Psych Files, host Michael Britt explores three fascinating new psychology studies. First, research found that making hospital alarms more musical could help prevent dangerous mistakes caused by alarm fatigue. Next, studies on cats and dogs suggest they likely dream about their waking experiences, just like humans do. The brain activity of a sleeping dog resembles when it is chasing a ball, for example. Finally, not all personality tests are created equal - while popular, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) lacks scientific support, whereas the Big Five model and its personality traits are well-validated by research. However, no test can capture the full complexity of your personality. Psychological science is always uncovering new insights into how our minds work, with much still left to discover.

Thank you for being part of the conversation. This is Play It Forward. Real people. Real stories. The struggle to Play It Forward Episode 575 with Lonestar… Re-recording songs that fans have loved for years can be a tricky proposition, but TEN to 1 strikes the perfect balance between fresh and familiar. It was a labor of love for Lonestar's Dean Sams, drummer Keech Rainwater, guitar virtuoso Michael Britt and lead vocalist Drew Womack. "We've been doing this for a very long time, and we've been super blessed in our 30 plus years together to have 22 top 10 singles and then have 10 of those go No.1," says founding member Dean Sams, who has produced the group's last six albums. "We've adapted our sound so much over the years through playing live, we've started approaching songs a little bit differently and so we just thought we should put a version of who we are today out there with all 10 of our No. 1's." Michael Britt adds: "Most of these songs we've played for 25 years or so, and we know these songs like the back of our hand. It was fun to be able to record songs that everybody knows and just put a different spin on them because we've changed them over time."
Having just celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2022, Lonestar, the highly acclaimed and multi-award-winning country group, announce their new album TEN to 1 - an invigorating re-recording of 10 of their #1 hits - will be released on Friday, June 2. There's something about combining nostalgia with innovation that turns a beloved memory into an engaging new experience. That's the foundation for Lonestar's TEN to 1 - giving fans brand new versions of the hits they have loved for years. "Amazed," the lead single from the collection, which originally spent 11 weeks in a No. 1 position, is set for a Wednesday, March 1 release. I'm really excited to bring today's panel to the show – as you might have guessed, it has to do with the trans-Atlantic bridge between North America (so United States and Canada) and the UK. We're delving into sustainability, international trends, safety and more – but the super exciting piece is that I'm joined today by some of the speakers from the Fleet Vision International Conference that takes place in London, from the 12th-13th of April this year. For those of you that don't know of Fleet Vision International – the show or the magazine, or haven't heard more than just the name – here's what you need to know. Fleet Vision International – THE SHOW is the leading B2B trade event aimed at fleet, transport and workshop managers employed in complex and specialist operations, aimed at fleet management operations which operate large numbers of specialty vehicles, which deliver critical services for the public and the supply chain. Think local authorities, waste management, emergency services, airports, hauling, utilities, construction and more.On today's episode, I have a panel of guests that have worked with or are speaking at Fleet Vision International – Ann-Marie Knegt, the founder of Visie Communcations and the mastermind behind Fleet Vision International. You'll meet her here shortly. Next, we've got Kevin Barcroft, academy training manager for Simply Waste Solutions. Kate Cairns is also joining us today, she's passionate about saving the planet and vehicle safety – both efforts can be strongly seen through her work at CLOCS (Construction Logistics and Community Safety) and her freelance work through Cairns Consultancy. Vince Dignam is here, he is the business performance manager for the city of London, as well as Michael Britt who was formerly with UPS and now heads his own consulting business MG Britt. Lastly, we've got Nathan Wilson and Sukky Choongh with us as well. Nathan has spent the last 40+ years in the industry, and is currently the account and market development manager for the UK and Republic of Ireland at Allison Transmission Europe. Sukky is the Environmental Manager for Air Quality and Ultra Low Emission Vehicles and Inclusivity Officer for the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, otherwise known as SMMT.----Show notes for today's episode can be found at: https://www.utilimarc.com/blogGretchen Reese on LinkedInUtilimarc on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube#UtilimarcFleetFYIswww.utilimarc.comFLEET VISION INTERNATIONAL PANELLISTS: Ann-Marie Knegt on LinkedInSukky Choongh on LinkedInNathan Wilson on LinkedInKate Cairns on LinkedInMichael Britt on LinkedInKevin Barcroft on LinkedInVince Dignam on LinkedIn
In this episode Michael and I go way back to the Canyon days of the early 90s. Yes we were band mates just before Lonestar. Together we break down what it is that musicians seem to like about a certain drummer and how groove and feel affect the quality of a song and the vibe of a live gig.
On this Michael Britt Interview, Michael talks about the serendipity of his career arc, feeling like a commodity at some points, how Lonestar’s managed to stay together for so long, in spite of various highs & lows… dropping out of college to play music, his system of modeling amps, dealing with divorce, mellowing out and loads more. Michael Britt Host Of The Psych Files Podcast And App Maker says I fell for the become an app millionaire hype. Now i make a steady $500 per month.
In this episode, Bo Bennett has a conversation with Dr. Michael Britt about the genre of books and programs known as “self-help,” a roughly $11 billion industry. As Bo says, the self-help movement is not much different from many religious movements, and, like many religions, self-help does have some good things to offer. The key is to be knowledgeable in this area and to think critically. Bo's guest, Michael Britt, has a Ph.D. in psychology from The State University of New York at Albany (specialization in social and industrial/organizational psychology). He is an adjunct professor in psychology and runs the most popular psychology podcast, The Psych Files.
The fourth part of four episodes on anxiety. The workshop has wrapped up, and we are reviewing what was presented at the workshop here in episode 16. The workshop at St. Peter's Episcopal average around 25 people per week. There was a lot of positive feedback about the presentations. I hope to be able to do more workshops in the future. If your group is interested in a presentation on anxiety, depression, relationships, parent/child communication, or a wide variety of content about psychology let me know. I'd be happy to present depending on the schedule. For our Did You See That segment we review the podcast by Michael Britt. Professor Britt does a podcast titled The Psych Files. He reviewed the Reproducibility Project. His take is that the project does more to bring to light the problems we have with the research culture in general rather than showing that psychological research is suspect itself. Check out his podcast at: http://www.thepsychfiles.com/2015/09/ep-245-the-results-of-the-reproducibility-project-incentives-out-of-whack/ Our main segment reviews what was covered in the fourth workshop. We have covered various practical techniques to manage anxiety, but what about living our lives to the fullest with or in spite of anxiety. In the episode I talk about that anxiety holds us in place or causes us to run away. We are afraid of change. The fear is because we are afraid of losing something, the process of change, or the outcomes. Facing our fears we can see that change doesn't need to be all in one step. It can be step by step. What is one small thing you can do to make a change today? One of the major problems with facing our fear and making the change is not feeling valuable enough, or being willing to be vulnerable. I reference a Ted talk by Brene Brown to discuss how we can increase our sense of worth to be vulnerable to risk change. http://www.ted.com/talks/brene_brown_on_vulnerability Finally, we talk look at Colossians 3:12-14 and Galatians 3:26-29 to explore how we are children of God. We are heirs of the process. You are worthy. In today's show, we have a question from Michael Britt, a Psychology professor who has been super-successful at creating lots of content, has millions of downloads of his podcast and his youtube videos, but has not had much success at monetizing 9 years of hard work. A weak call to action, content all over the place, not focusing on one sub-niche at a time, trying to be everything to everybody, spreading yourself too thin. The problem might be that you've just kept creating content for years, without any kind of structure or specific goals. And you've been creating products without identifying who your target customer is. When I go to your web site, I can't really make out who it is really for. Is it for students studying psychology for a college degree? Is it for the casual person looking to learn about psycology? Is it for people who are looking to learn more about psychology because of a loved one who has an issue? The content is just too much, and it is all over the place, from what I can tell. You have a very weak call to sign up for your newsletter at the top. Doesn't state any benefits. Just "sign up for my newsletter" is not going to cut it. Instead, it should be something like "Get the top 10 memory boosting tricks that are borderline illegal, have been baffling both scientists and students - and will rewire your brain like you are Sherlock Holmes". Have a nice digital image of a great report. Say how many times it has been downloaded. Why it helps. Benefits. Who all it helps. "Whether you are a teenage student or you are 60 years old and you have just been diagnosed with Alzheimers".
In this episode, Bo Bennett speaks with Dr. Michael Britt, host of The Psych Files podcast. Listen as they discuss critical thinking and anti-intellectualism--—why it's a problem, examples, and what we can do about it. Dr. Britt has a Ph.D. in psychology from The State University of New York at Albany (with a specialization in social and industrial/organizational psychology), and a B.A. in Psychology from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. He attended L'Ecole des Psychologues Praticiens in Paris, France. Dr. Britt taught psychology at Marist for 10 years at the graduate and undergraduate level. He currently runs B & E Productions, LLC – a mobile app and social media firm – from his home in Rhinebeck, NY.
