JMS: three letters that stand for inventive comic book storytelling. Not that he's a slouch in film, TV, or animation, mind you. J. Michael Straczynski may be best known as the creator of the 90s sci-fi show Babylon 5, but for our purposes, he's a comic writing genius who's worked on some of the most iconic characters for the past 30 years. Before breaking into the industry with his epic Rising Stars series for Top Cow/Image, he had a solid foundation in animation, having scripted and edited shows like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra: Princess of Power, and The Real Ghostbusters. After the atmospheric Midnight Nation for his own Top Cow imprint Joe's Comics, he began an epic run on Amazing Spider-Man for Marvel. He soon expanded to titles like Supreme Power, Fantastic Four, and a defining run on Thor. Later, at DC, he developed the Earth One series of graphic novels, writing three volumes of Superman. He also wrote several installments of Before Watchmen. Now, JMS is back at Marvel with an ongoing Captain America series (with artist Jesus Saiz), which you can pick up starting in September. In the meantime, you can follow JMS primarily on Twitter (@stracynski).________________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you liked this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts.
