Zafarrancho Vilima
Alpuente, Valencia en La España Barbaciada

Zafarrancho Vilima

For the entire month of March, the guys at Not A Bomb are throwing it back to their old Movie Matchup format, pitting notorious box office bombs against each other in a battle for redemption. Two flops enter… only one survives. There can only be one! This week, Troy and Brad are strapping on their headbands, polishing their katana, and diving into a matchup that blends ‘80s martial‑arts mayhem with ‘90s neo‑samurai intensity. It's a clash of cultures, a duel of destinies, and—let's be honest, a celebration of that timeless cinematic art form: white‑guy karate. That's right, it's American Ninja vs. The Hunted, and the dojo has never been more chaotic.American Ninja (1985)Directed by Sam Firstenberg and starring Michael Dudikoff, Steve James, Judie Aronson, and Tadashi Yamashita, this Cannon Films classic is the apex of Reagan‑era martial‑arts absurdity. It's a movie where ninjas fall from trees like confetti, the U.S. Army apparently has no HR department, and the choreography proudly screams, “We taught this guy karate last week.” A cult favorite for anyone who believes the greatest martial art is confidence. The Hunted (1995)Directed by J.F. Lawton and starring Christopher Lambert, John Lone, Joan Chen, and Yoshio Harada, this sleek, bloody thriller drops a confused American businessman into a centuries‑old samurai feud. Lambert, armed with nothing but bewilderment and the fighting instincts of a man who once took a weekend aikido class. It's stylish, atmospheric, and surprisingly intense, proving that even in the ‘90s, Hollywood couldn't resist the allure of “What if a regular white guy accidentally became part of a ninja war?”The MatchupThis isn't just a duel—it's a full‑blown martial‑arts heavyweight fight. Cannon‑era ninja chaos vs. moody samurai noir. Dudikoff's “I guess I'm a ninja now” energy vs. Lambert's “I definitely did not sign up for this” panic. Troy and Brad break down which film kicks harder, which one stumbles, and which earns the coveted weekly crown. Expect shurikens, sword fights, questionable accents, and enough white‑guy karate to power a VHS dojo.We Want to Hear From YouGot a cinematic flop you want us to tackle? There Can Be Only One. Only one Immortal that this - the Immortals are special swordsmen who can live forever, except when they are facing off against other swordsmen who can kill them but ONLY by decapitating them.  The Immortal this particular story focuses on is Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) who is from the Highlands of Scotland in the 1500's when he discovers that he has this unique designation.  We follow his adventures through several centuries all the way up the "present day" in 1985 New York City where he is now being hunted by a bloodthirsty immortal barbarian named the Kurgan (Clancy Brown). Along the way, he has also been mentored by another Immortal named Ramirez (Sean Connery) in the ways of swordsmanship, along with other special gifts.  Featuring songs by Queen and directed by Russel Mulcahy (The Shadow, Resident Evil: Extinction), this action fantasy was a commercial disappointment upon first release forty years ago but has since become a beloved cult classic.  Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon Send us Fan MailSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Shat the Movies: 80's & 90's Best Film Review

Shat The Movies unsheathes the katana and heads to modern-day Japan for The Hunted, a mid-'90s action oddity that asks a very important question: What if Christopher Lambert was a reluctant samurai caught in a centuries-old ninja blood feud? Released in 1995 and promptly forgotten, this movie blends corporate intrigue, mystical warrior clans, and neon-lit Tokyo alley fights into one very strange package. Gene and Big D break down Lambert's perpetual confusion, Joan Chen's elegant menace, and the film's commitment to taking ancient honor codes extremely seriously—despite feeling like it was shot between episodes of Highlander. Along the way, they debate whether The Hunted is an underrated cult action flick or just a slick-looking B-movie that never quite finds its footing. Behold The Hunted, a hidden gem of '90s action cinema and proof that not every movie needs ninjas, boardrooms and spiritual destiny all in the same script. All that and more in this sequel that takes more big swings than the ending of Signs and was such a dramatic departure from the original film that they released a new version of the movie in an attempt to make people forget the theatrical cut ever existed! Eén ding is duidelijk: There can be only one!28 Years Later ReviewJelle heeft deze week 28 Years Later gecheckt, de langverwachte opvolger van Danny Boyle's baanbrekende 28 Days Later en 28 Weeks Later.

It's 1986's cult classic, Highlander, an absolute mess of a movie that somehow, against all odds, has amassed a worldwide following of super fans. It's a little bit of column A and a little bit of column B, just a mishmash of nerdy tropes thrown together and somehow working together in a way that made every twelve year old boy a megafan.Christopher Lambert plays a brooding Scottish guy who must fight a crazy evil heavy metal black knight while Sean Connery chews scenery. It's all sword fighting all the time and a soundtrack provided by Queen that is easily as memorable as the entire movie. Russell Mulcahy is out here putting his music video filmmaking skills to work on a stylish action adventure that endures as an unstoppable cult movie item that Bryan and Dave are at a loss to explain.Join the Bring Me The Axe Discord: https://discord.gg/snkxuxzJSupport Bring Me The Axe! on Patreon: https://patreon.com/bringmetheaxepodBuy Bring Me The Axe merch here:https://www.bonfire.com/store/bring-me-the-axe-podcast/

There can be only one! Well, unless there's a bunch of money up for grabs in making a sequel! Or that was the plan at last. Dave's next entry for the year of the stitch-up is the 1991 sequel to the cult classic, Highlander II: The Quickening. The production of Highlander II: The Quickening is often cited as a masterclass in cinematic chaos. Shot primarily in Argentina, the film was plagued by financial problems from the outset. The country's volatile economy led to massive inflation during production, and the financiers seized control of the project from director Russell Mulcahy. With the original vision compromised, the resulting film veered far from the tone and mythology of the first Highlander, introducing a sci-fi backstory about aliens that baffled fans and critics alike. Mulcahy was so frustrated with the interference that he reportedly tried to have his name removed from the project altogether.Despite returning stars like Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, the film's confusing script, drastic re-editing, and overreliance on shoddy visual effects left many scratching their heads. The disarray behind the scenes prompted several later attempts to salvage the movie, including the release of the Renegade Version in 1995 and The Special Edition in 2004, both of which removed the alien subplot and tried to realign the story closer to the original's spirit. However, the damage to the franchise's reputation had already been done. Over time, Highlander II has gained a cult following—albeit more for its notorious infamy than its cinematic merit. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, so become a supporter.www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesbackTrailer Guy Plot SummaryIn a world where immortals once battled across centuries, Highlander II: The Quickening takes a wild detour into the future—because why not? Earth is dying, the ozone layer is toast, and Connor MacLeod, now a weary old man, must rise again when an evil tyrant from another planet—yes, another planet—sends assassins to finish what they started. Joined by his resurrected mentor Ramirez, they'll slash their way through sci-fi nonsense, corporate villains, and the laws of continuity itself… because this time, being immortal just isn't confusing enough. Buckle up—this isn't the sequel you asked for, it's the one that leaves you asking, what just happened?thevhsstrikesback@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback

In a post apocalyptic, medieval, steampunk world, a man walking around with his own armory of weapons and a dark past arrives at a trading outpost cursed with a great evil that he's been hunting. Add in some industrial techno music, a gratuitous amount of somersaults, and a gigantic straight razor guillotine…and you've got 1999's interpretation of the Old English epic poem BEOWULF! Didn't see that coming, did ya?! Come for the Christopher Lambert, but stick around for Grendel's hot MILF!!!

Lee and Daniel are joined by friends and past guests Nick and Greg to talk about Russell Mulcahy's "Highlander" (1986), starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. Bad accents; excellent visuals; confusing lore; Michael Ironside with a mullet; and a legacy of a franchise with fantastic highs and bottom of the barrel lows are things that are talked about, along with a ton of other asides, including the soundtrack and dead media formats zoomers might not know about. The hosts also talk about what they've been watching as of late. There can be only one podcast about Highlander. Actually, that's not true, but at least this is one of them.
