Join us as we delve into the remarkable journey of Garry Gary Beers, the bassist of the legendary Australian rock band INXS. From his early beginnings, through the meteoric rise of INXS, to his current musical endeavours with AshenMoon, Garry's story is a testament to passion, resilience, and evolution in the music industry.Early Life and Musical GenesisBorn in Manly, Sydney, Australia, Garry was introduced to the world of music during his high school years. He initially picked up the acoustic guitar and formed a band with his schoolmates. A twist of fate led him to switch to the bass guitar, a decision that would shape his entire future . The transition was serendipitous, and paved the way for him to meet Andrew Farriss. Together, they formed the band Dr. Dolphin, which eventually evolved into The Farriss Brothers, and later, the globally acclaimed INXS. INXS emerged as a powerhouse in the rock and new wave scenes of the 80s and 90s. The band's unique blend of rock, pop, and dance elements resonated with audiences worldwide. Garry's bass lines became the backbone of numerous chart-topping hits, including "Need You Tonight," "Devil Inside," "Never Tear Us Apart," and "Suicide Blonde." Garry also co-wrote several tracks like "Listen Like Thieves," "Don't Change," and "Perfect Strangers." The band toured relentlessly and Michael Hutchence's dynamic stage presence solidified the band's reputation, leading to sales of over 70 million albums and induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2001. Following Michael's tragic passing in 1997, INXS faced tumultuous times. Garry explored various musical avenues and in 89, during a hiatus from INXS, joined the group Absent Friends.Garry soonn relocated to Los Angeles, immersing himself in songwriting and production. His passion for craftsmanship led him to design and build his own line of bass guitars under the brand GGB Basses, merging his love for music with his skills in woodwork and electronics. Garry co-founded AshenMoon when he teamed up with fellow Australian vocalist Toby Rand. The band embarked on a journey to create a fresh yet nostalgically resonant sound. Their self-produced tracks, including singles like "GODTANK," "DON'T WAKE ME," and "STARGAZE," have garnered attention for their raw energy and melodic depth. The band is about to tour Australia for the very first time.Garry Gary Beers's story is a fascinating one. With a catalogue as extensive as INXS', there was bound to be moments in time when certain songs captured the zeitgeist attention of the music buying public and critics. Look no further than January 28th, 1988 when a humble hard working sextet from Australia hit number one on the Billboard Charts with Need You Tonight. A song, that now, sounds so familiar, crisp and radio friendly but then, a new modern twist on funk, soul and pop with sound production so cutting edge, every breath, ooh and aah sounded like Michael Hutchence was singing it to you directly from your living room. Combined with an innovative, breathtaking and cutting edge video clip, Need you Tonight put INXS into the stratosphere of superstardom and success. MTV awards ensued, world tours were booked and the album Kick had the necessary momentum to spawn 4 subsequent hit singles and international acclaim. Five years later in February 1993, a less prominent and commercially successful track was released as the fifth single to Welcome to Wherever You are, namely Beautiful Girl. A self-penned track by Andrew Farriss as an ode to new fatherhood, this restrained, mellow and resonant song showcased a maturity, subtlety and consciousness to both the INXS writing and recording process. Charting steadily if not spectacularly, the film clip by Mark Pellington of U2 and Pearl Jam fame would garner a Grammy nomination for Best Video of the Year losing out to Peter Gabriel's “Steam” clip. That aside, the social conscious messaging of the clip resonated nicely with the lyrical content whilst Michael's channeling of Lou Reed, circa The Velvet Underground era only added to its worthiness. So sit back and reminisce as we step back in time and honour two distinct but two important songs in the INXS catalogue that still resonate 37 and 32 years later respectively.

On the 46th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review rock band INXS' 1987 monster album, "Kick." Kick was the Australian band INXS' 6th solo studio album. The album catapulted INXS in superstardom, especially in the United States, where the album went 6x platinum and also selling over 20 million albums worldwide. The album also reached number 3 on the US Billboard album charts and had 4 top ten singles, with one of them reaching number 1. INXS was led by one of the most charismatic frontman of the 1980's, Michael Hutchence. Whose voice, style and sexiness was made for MTV and the 1980's. The band features three of the Farriss brothers, Andrew on keyboards and guitar, Jon on drums and Tim on guitars along with Kirk Pengilly on guitars and sax and Garry Gary Beers on bass. The album was produced by Chris Thomas. Kick featured undeniable hits made for the 1980's radio and MTV like, New Sensation, Devil Inside, Never Tear Us Apart and the number one hit, Need You Tonight. Michael Hutchence's uniqueness brought an unparalleled element to INXS, one that many bands struggle to find. Take a journey through the band's career, from their early hits to their grand album tracks, all the way to the worldwide smashes that made them the phenomenon that was INXS. Some of their most iconic songs include "Kiss The Dirt (Falling Down The Mountain)", "Mystify", "Burn For You", "Elegantly Wasted", "Searching", "Suicide Blonde", "Baby Don't Cry", "Devil Inside", "By My Side", "Need You Tonight", "Listen Like Thieves", "Shining Star", and "New Sensation", among many others. NYC electronic act MIDNIGHTCHOIR release their second album, Loverboy Molotov, a follow-up to 2016's THE CROWN! As a follow-up to their last single release — "Molotov," shared alongside an accompanying music video (directed and edited by lead vocalist and songwriter Patrick Bobilin) and a B-Side cover of Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead" — today, they share the LP's second single, "Lovecrimes," alongside a lyric video and B-Side cover of INXS' "Need You Tonight"Speaking on this new single, Bobilin wrote:"After 7 years of being in the public eye, the only times I felt I could be myself were at NYC dance bars like Pyramid Club or Saint Vitus. I started traveling to Austin, TX more often to visit a group of friends, free from the political infamy I'd become ensnared in. I recorded it quickly in one night, with the urgency of having to get out of town and shake loose of those tangles. 'Lovecrimes' was inspired by late nights in NYC and dancing at Barbarella in Austin, where they always play INXS on 80's Night. The cover of 'Need You Tonight' was also inspired by those late nights and features guitar from David Simutis who I met at an office job and who I learned was a seasoned indie rock vet, having engineered and played on some of the coolest records of the last 20 years."https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vN6AjxspeY

INXS (a phonetic play on "in excess") were an Australian rock band, formed as the Farriss Brothers in 1977 in Sydney, New South Wales. The founding members were bassist Garry Gary Beers, main composer and keyboardist Andrew Farriss, drummer Jon Farriss, guitarist Tim Farriss, lead singer and main lyricist Michael Hutchence, and guitarist and saxophonist Kirk Pengilly. For 20 years, INXS was fronted by Hutchence, whose magnetic stage presence made him the focal point of the band. Initially known for their new wave/pop style, the band later developed a harder pub rock style that included funk and dance elements. In 1984, INXS had their first number-one hit in Australia with "Original Sin". The band achieved international success in the mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s with the hit albums Listen Like Thieves, Kick, and X, and the singles "What You Need", "Need You Tonight" (the band's only US number-one single), "Devil Inside", "Never Tear Us Apart", "Suicide Blonde" and "New Sensation". After Hutchence's death on 22 November 1997, INXS made appearances with several guest singers, and toured and recorded with Jon Stevens as lead singer, beginning in 2000. In 2005, members of INXS participated in Rock Star: INXS, a reality television series that culminated in the selection of Canadian J.D. Fortune as their new lead singer. Irish singer-songwriter Ciaran Gribbin replaced Fortune as lead singer in 2011. During a concert on 11 November 2012, INXS stated that the performance would be their last, although they did not announce the band's permanent retirement. INXS won six Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards, including three for "Best Group" in 1987, 1989 and 1992; the band was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2001. INXS has sold over 70 million albums worldwide, making them one of Australia's highest selling music acts of all time.Complete setlist - 5/18/23Corey Hart - Never SurrenderCommentaryGenesis - Man On The CornerDon Henley - The Boys Of SummerTina Turner - We Don't Need Another Hero (Beyond Thunderdome)CommentaryINXS - The One Thing (extended)INXS - Don't ChangeCommentaryINXS - Here Comes IIINXS - Original Sin/commentaryINXS -What You NeedINXS - I Send A MessageINXS - To Look At YouCommentaryINXS - The Album "Kick" Side AGuns In The SkyNew SensationDevil InsideNeed You Tonight/MediateThe Loved OneCommentaryINXS - The Album "Kick" Side BWild LifeNever Tear Us ApartMystifyKickCalling All NationsTiny DaggersCommentaryINXS - Disappear INXS - Suicide BlondeRecorded live at the She Shack Studio on April 17th and 18th 2023.© Copyright Danny Diess

I dont want to give too much away, Jon and i had the most incredible and enjoyable chat, i hope you enjoy it as much as i did! Jon, thank you so much for taking the time from your busy schedule to talk to me! Many thanks to Paul Beard for introducing me to Jon, thanks to my good friend Steve Barney for introducing me to Paul and lastly, thank you to Richard Hughes from Keane for supplying me with a great question for Jon!

I Was Dead for 7 Weeks in the City of Angels. En 2013, además, reeditan su disco "Devil Came to Me", llamado "Dover Came to Me", en diferentes formatos.

Trivia Minute by TriviaPeople.com

On this date in 1993, the American-born sumo wrestler Akebono became the first foreigner promoted to the highest rank of yokozuna. Here are some things you may not have known about sumo, and Akebono. Sumo is a wrestling sport where opponents try to force each other to be the first to step out of the ring, or touch the floor with anything but the soles of their feet. One strategy is to simply be the larger participant. Sumo wrestlers are known for their sometimes enormous weight. There are no weight divisions in professional sumo, so wrestlers sometimes face off against someone twice their weight. However, weight isn’t everything. With the proper technique the smaller wrestler can defeat a much larger opponent. Sumo wrestlers wear a loincloth called a mawashi. It is made of silk and, when unwound, is about 30 feet long and two feet wide, and can weigh up to 11 pounds. It is an automatic disqualification if the cloth comes off.  Only former professional sumo wrestlers are allowed to train new wrestlers. Sumo wrestlers’ lives are highly regimented. Most wrestlers live communally. Lower ranked wrestlers must wear a thin cotton robe and wooden sandals, year-round. As wrestlers move up the ranks, they’re allowed to wear better clothes and sandals. Junior wrestlers are also responsible for upkeep in the training facility. Because some wrestlers were too big to drive cars, all wrestlers are banned from driving. Wrestlers below the second division make a small allowance. Top-level wrestlers, such as the Yokozuna, make as much as $30,000 a month. Yokozuna means “Horizontal Rope” and refers to the ceremonial rope they wear around their waist. The rope can weigh up to 44 pounds.  72 wrestlers have earned the rank of Yokozuna, the first recorded in 1749. Yokozuna are selected based on their power, skill and dignity and grace. Some allege that the dignity and grace criteria was used to prevent foreign wrestlers from achieving Yokozuna status.  That changed in 1993, when Akebono was promoted to yokozuna.  Akebono was born Chad Rowan near Honolulu. He was an all-star center in basketball in high school and went to Hawaii Pacific University on a basketball scholarship. At 6-foot-8, it was thought that he was too tall to be a sumo wrestler, but he was allowed to join a training stable. He adopted the name Akebono, which means “New Dawn.” He rose through the ranks quickly, compiling several championships in 1992 an 1993 to earn promotion. Akebono lasted nearly eight years as a yokozuna, which is an unusually long time. However he battled injury because of his height and weight. He was one of the heaviest wrestlers ever, fighting at more than 500 pounds. He retired in 2000. Since then, he has fought in mixed martial arts and in American-style professional wrestling. Our question: Of the four current yokozuna, how many are Japanese? Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It’s unofficially National Chocolate Cake Day, National Fun at Work Day, and National Geographic Day. It’s the birthday of writer Lewis Carroll, who was born in 1832; actor Alan Cumming, who is 52; and comedian Patton Oswalt, who is 48. Because we’ve featured 1993 recently, we’ll spin the wheel to pick a year at random. This week in 1988, the top song in the U.S. was “Need You Tonight” by INXS. The No. 1 movie was “Good Morning, Vietnam,” while the novel “The Bonfire of the Vanities” by Tom Wolfe topped the New York Times Bestsellers list.  Weekly question: In the song “American Pie,” who is referred to as “The Jester”? The answer is Bob Dylan. The first correct answer came from Kevin Lazar. He was followed closely by Trent H, Tom, and Brian and Elisa. Links Follow us on Twitter, Facebook or our website. Happy Pill   I actually have a few more installments of the "Deep in China" session and the NYD set to upload and yet ended up publishing this little nugget. Two factors: on the one hand felt like something a bit lighter & happier as I was starting to accumulate new 2014 tunes on my HD and on the other (my fellow podcasters will understand) once a set is recorded and sits there for a few weeks, it needs to be pretty good to actually be dug up for publishing.. most of the times they stay on the drive because we (hope) the next one will be better.   Happy Pill.... A very vocal house set with happy tunes to bring a smile to our faces. I have lately been watching the news and I cannot say that the reports from the Ukraine, Syria and Venezuela are particularly cheerful.. Happy Pill time then.. Tunes from 2014 or late 2013 with some oldies mixed in-between.   Playlist:   2013 Luv 4 You. Scott Diaz 2013 I Like 2 Party. Samir Maslo Vs. Oliver Cheatham 2013 Beautiful (Original mix). Hakan Kabil feat. Majuri 2013 Need You Tonight (Scott Wozniak Bootleg Remix). INXS 2013 Dreams (Director's Cut Classic Mix). Vintage Lounge Orchestra 2013 The Otherside (Original Mix). Carl Hanaghan feat. Roz Brown 2014 The Madness of Last Night Serenity (Original Mix) [Xtian Mash-Up] Lars Behrenroth feat. Marc Evans 2014 If We Only Had Tonight (Original Mix vs Carl Hanaghan Discopolis Remix). Husky 2013 Tonight (Earnshaw's Deep & Modified Mix). Mike Scott, and Richard Earnshaw, feat. Chappell 2013 Boy Is Mine (OtherSoul Classic Mix).Brandy & Monica 2013 Everybody Loves (Monte Remix.)  Phil & Dan 2001 Loving You (Vincenzo's Remix). Smurf & Perry feat. Concha Buika 2014 Something About the Rain [Xtian Lil’ Edit]. Noa feat Adele 2012 Settle Down (Scott Wozniak Remix). Kimbra   Highlights:   First track “Luv 4 You” from the king of Jackin’ House Scott Diaz.. Tune sets the mood.. If you do not like it, do not progress, your sad mood might lighten up, do not risk it.. Impeccable production.   “I Like 2 Party” from Samir Maslo and Oliver Cheathman..  It has that Disco atmosphere which comes from the rich production, the echoed vocal sample and is written in a key F#m which I think is perfect for House Music... Just lovely.   “Beautiful” from Hakan Kabil, multi-layered tune which might confront some, though I think it ticks all the right boxes and Majuri is a great vocalist.. Not a simple track at all..    “Need You Tonight”. With the biopic of INXS being currently shown on Australian TV, I thought it would be fun to use this immense remix from Scott Wozniak. It shows his immense talent as a remix/producer. The man can touch anything and enrich it.. Scott just crowd-sourced his first artist album, I simply cannot wait!   Another new take of an old classic, “Dreams” from Fleetwood Mac by no other than Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper.. I have always, will always love FK’s production. Rich, wide, smooth I am running out of  adjectives.. And if you want to feel the FK’s touch just scroll to 20:39:00 and bang one second after  that bass you hear coming, this IS FK signature right there.. I heard it too many times live not to recognize it, it just pumps precisely when the tune needs it.. Without it the track would be perfect but lacking soul, lacking a heart beat.. The Bass line is the pulse. Enjoy!   "The OtherSide".. well it is a bridge track. I needed to change key and keep the wide production theme going, set being recorded live .. key and beat matched, it was enough for me.. Well… you got a House Diva. First time I notice Roz Brown as a vocalist.. She can sing!   My mash-up of Lars Behrenroth’s ( of Deeper Shades of House fame) “Madness Last Night”.. Many reasons to be happy there.. Lars is one of the reason I do this because I remember listening to his sets 10 years ago and thinking I should try to do this.. Not that I am in any way comparing my crap with his immense talent but he is one of my inspirations.. Furthermore nothing makes me more happy than to buy tunes from people I respect and have connected with through Facebook and the likes. Finally I am actually pretty “stoked” to use the term being thrown around by all the Australian Olympians with what I did.. Great track from Lars and half decent mash-up from Xtian..   “If We Only Had Tonight” from Husky… immense Australian talent ( why does he NEVER come to Melbourne??).. Epitome of the happy tune and you are getting double dose because I ripped twice the Discopolis Remix in Traktor and saved it in extremis by the skin of my teeth with the OM.. Set is live.. would be have been in the bin.. I love everything, the production, the build in the synth, the filters, Carl Hanaghan doing a dirty sick job on the remix.. Have fun and smile..   “Tonight” Earnshaw and Mike Scott.. need I say more… oh yes.. Chappell , yes indeed there is “something special tonight”.. Not sure it counts as a happy songs per se.. but it made ME happy dropping it.. Rich production again and if you want to hear what I mean by the Frankie K’s bass pulse scroll to 48.59 and wait for the bass heartbeat coming a second after… Earnshaw showing he can do it just as well..   Another sugar Happy Pill with “Boy is Mine” from OtherSoul ( please hit the Like button on their Facebook page very talented producers and remixers).. Tunes has a house and R'n'B feel. Pure love and I dare you to listen and not have a wie grin on your face.. Ought to be prescribed to sad people and reimbursed!   “Everybody Loves”. From Phil & Dan.. another bridge tune thrown in because I could not find the beat of what I had originally planned to drop and I was running out of bars.. Not quite sure it fits the theme but it worked and I love the cow bells sounding percussions and yes My House is Your House and Your House is Mine works ALL THE TIME.. J   Now let’s go to something REALLY SPECIAL… way back from 2001 “Loving You” from Smurf and Perry the Vincenzo's Remix!!! DO NOT MISS!!!   If ,like me, you are discovering this track, you are in for a treat.. When I first heard it on GN’s Housecall in the "Do You remember House" section, I just could not believe that A) I had never heard such a great track B) that it had been produced in 2001!!   Pure bliss of a tune, perfect production and take it from someone who does not like jazz most of the time, it has the most perfect blend of jazzy undertones.. Bass is driving the track from alpha to omega, intricate percussions, great vocals from Concha Buika.. and then there is the classical piano progression at the start and end of the track.. Just telling you that this is A VERY VERY RARE HOUSE GEM..   It goes straight to my top ten.. and knocked a MAW track I never thought could be knocked off..   Additional info to the track.. I searched everywhere on the LEGAL net for the track, Traxsource, Beatport, Juno, Discodogs..etc.. to no avail, no file, no vinyl.. nothing.. I ended up hitting Shane D (host of the show and legendary remixer/producer/DJ from Durban SA) to ask if he could help me to find the tune.. He just sent the vinyl output by return.. Many thanks and much respect.. I had done something for him a few years back without expecting anything. Karma.. they say.. Thank you Shane D.   “ Settle Down” another Scott Wozniak Remix, I needed a short happy tune to stay in the CD format and not to encroach into the “More Happy Pills" set soon to  follow.. and this little happy gems was just meant for it..   Hope you like the set   A bientôt.. with More Happy Pills   Xtian
