A look back at how and why Alex Rodriguez lost the 2002 American League MVP race to Miguel Tejada
A longtime weak point in the A's organization has been the signing and development of international talent; since the days of Miguel Tejada, the organization has not only had very few of its own international signees rise to prominence in Oakland, but also a relative dearth of strong organizational players from that origin. This episode examines the past, present, and future of the A's efforts in this area. What are the challenges specific to success with international talent in general? How have the A's tried to address these challenges, and what might be behind the trouble they've had? What, if anything, are they doing differently to try to change course after all of their struggles? How are the organization's current group of international signees who have made it to full-season affiliates faring so far, and does their performance offer any hope for a more positive trajectory going forward on the international front? I analyze all of these dimensions of this very complex issue.

Miguel Andrés Tejada began his musical life as a classical pianist, studying under the famed Cuban teacher Hilda Melis Gras, in his hometown of Santiago in the Dominican Republic, but while still in his youth (and already an accomplished pianist) Miguel’s attention turned to jazz. In 2007 he was awarded a full scholarship to Boston’s Berklee College of Music, where he studied jazz composition and arrangement with Joanne Brackeen. Since then Miguel has played with a who's who of jazz musicians, and his compositions have been praised for their masterful use of Salsa, Merengue, Boleros, Samba, and Western Classical music. His “Rumbeando” received the National Music Prize, awarded by the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Culture. Follow Miguel on Instagram at migueltejadajazz.

It's one of the most debated questions amongst baseball purists over the last 20 years. Alex Rodriguez played on a last place team & had a career year, yet finished 2nd to Miguel Tejada who played on a 1st place team. Does team performance truly matter, or should the pure numbers decide? Greg goes in depth to determine whether Rodriguez or Tejada should have won the 2002 AL MVP award. The big news in Kansas City wasn't another Royals acquisition but rather the Chiefs signing Andy Reid to be their next head coach. We briefly covered the biggest local story of the day before moving on to the Royals latest moves. We talked about the minor league free agent signings of the last week, including Miguel Tejada and Endy Chavez and our listener question this week dealt with those kinds of deals as well which allowed us to talk a bit about Dayton Moore, intangibles and the Royals approach to building a roster. Then we brought on Chris Kamler to talk about what's new in his world and to talk about a big pre-spring training event at the Screenland Armour in North Kansas City on February 10th at 4 p.m. We're looking forward to helping out with the event and seeing everyone out to watch a screening of Major League and to take part in other trivia and shenanigans.
