The Inwood Art Works On Air podcast is a fantastic addition to the Inwood Art Works organization, allowing for even more exposure and support of local artists in the Inwood NYC community and its neighboring areas. This hyper-local podcast showcases the diverse talents of film, stage, music, visual artists, and writers from the region. With two featured segments - Artist Spotlight and Live N' Local - listeners are treated to an array of stories and performances that truly highlight the artistic hub that Inwood has become.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is its dedication to shining a spotlight on local artists. The Artist Spotlight segments provide a platform for these creatives to share their journeys and experiences, recorded at beloved local establishments within the community. This not only helps raise awareness about these talented individuals but also fosters a sense of pride within the community itself. Additionally, the Live N' Local segments offer an intimate look at Inwood musicians by showcasing their work in a live setting. This gives listeners a chance to experience their talent firsthand and creates a deeper connection between the artists and their audience.

Although it's difficult to find any major flaws with this podcast, one aspect that could be improved upon is providing more variety in terms of artistic mediums covered. While there is already a great mix of film, stage, music, visual arts, and writing represented on the podcast, expanding into other creative realms such as dance or photography would further diversify the content and appeal to an even wider audience.

In conclusion, The Inwood Art Works On Air podcast is an exceptional platform for local artists in Upper Manhattan and The Bronx to showcase their work. With its unique focus on showcasing Inwood's vibrant artist community, this podcast serves as a testament to what can be achieved when dedicated individuals like Aaron Simms and his team come together to support creativity. From supporting filmmakers through The Inwood Film Festival to providing pop-up gallery shows and now with this incredible podcast, Inwood Art Works continues to uplift and celebrate the artistic talents within the community.

In her operas, chamber works, sound installations, and music for dance and theater, she blends acoustic and electronic sound, de-tuned instruments, voices, machines, and the acoustic resonance of space. Having trained in both composition and classical voice, Kristin first earned her living as a soprano soloist with a focus on contemporary music, particularly American composers. She performed and recorded works by, and often alongside, composers such as Philip Glass, John Cage, Pauline Oliveros, George Crumb and many others. Returning to composition after her 40th birthday, she continued to focus on the voice as her primary sonic material. Her solo CD of work for voice and electronics - Aural Histories - was listed by The New Yorker music critic Alex Ross as one of “Ten Notable Classical Music Recordings of 2012”. Her opera The Trials of Patricia Isasa (2016) won Quebec´s OPUS prize for best contemporary music and best production. Julia Attaway has lived in upper Manhattan for nearly 30 years, the last five of which have been in Inwood. A freelance writer, editor, and marketer, she was actively involved in developing community events as she raised her five children. Four years ago, she accepted the position of Executive Director at St. Frances Cabrini Shrine. There she has community concerts, hosted community events, and – because Mother Cabrini is the patron saint of immigrants – done outreach to educate neighbors on immigration issues. The Shrine of St. Frances Cabrini houses the remains of Mother Cabrini, the patron saint of immigrants. This peaceful chapel overlooking the Hudson River is nestled right here in Northern Manhattan. The land was purchased by Mother Cabrini herself in 1899 to house a boarding school for upper-class girls, and she used the tuition to fund orphanages and free schools for the poor. The shrine continues today to be a sacred space to pray, rest and draw close to Jesus through the intercession of St. Frances Cabrini. www.cabrinishrinenyc.org
