It's Black Friday, which means it's a throwback episode day. During this show, Nic from True Crime Garage joins me to discuss the mysterious murder of Molly Bish. Enjoy the holiday weekend! Molly, the youngest of three siblings, was 16 when she was killed. An honor roll student, Molly had just completed her junior year of high school. She played soccer, basketball, and softball. Funny and social, Molly loved everyone. She was a blend of “Lucy” and “Forest Gump.” Just eight days after beginning her new job as a lifeguard at Cummins Pond, Molly was abducted. After three years of fear and the unknown, her bathing suit was found in a wooded area five miles away from the pond. In the weeks that followed, her remains were found and she came home bone-by-bone. Molly was laid to rest on her birthday, August 2, 2003. - Mass.gov Anyone with information on Molly's case is urged to call the anonymous tip line at 508-453-7575. Learn more about your ad choices. In the summer of 2000, a 16-year-old named Molly Anne Bish, born on August 2, 1983, took on the role of a lifeguard at Comins Pond in Warren, Massachusetts. On June 26, the day preceding her mysterious disappearance, her mother, Magi, noticed a man with a mustache sitting in a white car parked in the beach lot where Molly was stationed. Although the man raised her suspicions at the time, Magi did not dwell on the encounter until after her daughter went missing. The following day, June 27, Magi dropped Molly off at the lifeguard station, but she did not see the suspicious man or his vehicle. However, another witness reported spotting a man who matched the earlier description in the parking lot just moments before Molly arrived. Additionally, a local worker claimed to have seen a similar white car parked at a nearby cemetery, which was accessible via a path leading to the pond. Tragically, Magi Bish was the last person known to have seen her daughter before she vanished. Hours later, police informed the Bish family that no lifeguard had been present at the station throughout the day, and Molly's belongings were found abandoned. An extensive search effort was promptly initiated, marking it as the largest and most costly search for a missing person in Massachusetts history. Molly's case gained national attention, featuring on several prominent television programs such as Disappeared, America's Most Wanted, Unsolved Mysteries, and 48 Hours. In late fall 2002, a hunter discovered a blue bathing suit in the woods of Whiskey Hill in Palmer and reported it to the authorities in May 2003. This led to a focused search of the area, resulting in the tragic discovery of Molly Bish's body on June 9, 2003, approximately five miles from her family home. While the cause of death was never conclusively determined, investigators suspect foul play, believing that she was murdered and her remains concealed. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/locatingthelost/support

Who Killed Amy Mihaljevic?

Molly Bish was a 16-year-old girl who disappeared in Massachusetts in 2000. Her remains were found nearly three years later in the woods of Whiskey Hill in nearby Palmer. Despite ongoing investigations, no one has been charged with her murder. Twenty years after 16-year-old Molly Bish's body was found, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early remains optimistic about solving her murder. His office is actively investigating the case, and they've named Francis “Frank” Sumner Sr. as a person of interest. Sumner, who died in 2016, was a central Massachusetts resident with a history of criminal activity. He fits the description provided by Molly's mother and resembles a police sketch based on her description. However, despite these developments, no one has been charged with Molly Bish's murder1. With Steve Demoura, Debra's brother-in-law and dedicated advocate to get justice for Debra and her family. In June 2000, Debra Melo was a young mother trying to navigate the end of the only relationship she knew. She'd gotten married at 16, had two kids, and found that life was very different by age 30. She was making her way out and finally taking steps to get away from the person who'd been suffocating her for so long, a controlling and domineering man. But she disappeared before she could do any of that.  On the afternoon of June 20, 2000, her husband, Luis Melo, drove her to her doctor's appointment in Weymouth, 30 miles from their home in Taunton, Massachusetts. Her husband's account of that day is all we have to go on. His claim is they had an argument on the drive home and Debra demanded he let her out of the car at a busy part of Route 18 in Weymouth.  According to Luis Melo, he went back to get her but she was gone. This is the first of many red flags in this case. Debra left her pocketbook, wallet, identification, and cell phone in the car. That by itself is suspicious. In this first part of a two-part series, I talk to Steve Demoura, brother-in-law of Debra and former husband of her sister, Patricia, who has been an integral part of her case and the investigation into her disappearance. We talk about the challenges of her disappearance and the timing of it - exactly one week before teenager Molly Bish went missing in Warren, Mass. We break down the fabric of a family and their relentless search for justice and the toll her disappearance has taken.  Plus we take a closer look at The Silver City, walking through the places that once sparkled with life in Taunton, through landmarks like the famed Silver City Galleria Mall where Richard Simmons shot one of his legendary infomercials (and meet Joanie!) and darker moments that mark its history and the weight of its memories.*Correction: Louis A. Who Killed Sarah Pryor? I want to thank a listener for suggesting this story. I have done episodes on the case of Molly Bish and Holly Pirrainen, and the listener suggested I look into the case of Sarah Pryor. Another case connected loosely to the Pryor case is that of 16-year-old Cathy Malcolmson. Cathy was working at the IGA supermarket when she was abducted on her way home from work. The listener, who is from the Massachusetts area where these abductions took place, said there had been some talk that Sarah's case may also be connected to Molly and Holly's cases. I decided to look into the Pryor mystery and was surprised by what I found. One of the similarities I began to see was the area's geography and how close these incidents took place to one another. Sarah was taken an hour from where Holly went missing, but all three of these cases occurred just off the Massachusetts Turnpike. It may be a stretch to think these cases could be connected, but it doesn't mean the idea should be discounted. Some books and documentaries talk about how the construction of the interstate enabled a new type of killer. Molly Bish was a 16-year-old teenager who worked 2 jobs and attended high school. She was a lifeguard and also worked at a local ice cream shop. She had a boyfriend who cared about her and was planning on getting her driver's license and a car. On June 27, 2000, Molly's mother drove her to her lifeguard job at Comins Pond In Warren, Massachusetts. While there, Molly's mother noticed a man sitting in a white car. She had concerns about the man as she didn't know why he would be just sitting there. She waited for the man to leave before she left Molly. Hours later, her family would be contacted by law enforcement. They would inform the family that a concerned person had arrived at the pond to learn that Molly was gone. After an extensive search, she wasn't found. During the fall of 2002, a hunter found a piece of fabric that resembled the bathing suit worn by Molly when she disappeared. The hunter told another person who contacted law enforcement. A massive search began on May 12th 2003. Over 200 people would launch a search of an area in Palmer referred to as Whiskey Hill. Searchers would find Molly Bish's remains on June 3, 2003. Law enforcement and the family have named suspects, but no one has ever been arrested. The case still remains unsolved. Yes, you read that title correctly. This episode, Christine and Kate cover two cases: one in which there is a conviction without a body found, and one in which there is a body found with no conviction. Christine starts us off this episode by talking about the murder of 30-year-old Elizabeth Ann Kutz. Elizabeth, known as Beth, goes to work on the morning of July 27, 2000 and sends a text to her mom saying that if she is not home within 30 minutes, to go looking for her. Sadly, she is never seen again.  Marital problems with her husband at the time, Daniel, will be discussed, and holes in his story will definitely be questioned. Kate then goes on to talk about the case of Molly Bish, a 16-year-old lifeguard who was murdered in 2000 as well.  Her belongings were found unattended at her lifeguard station, with Molly nowhere to be found. The search for Molly became the largest missing person search in Massachusetts history.

Molly Bish was 16 years old and working as a lifeguard at Comins Pond in Warren. She'd only been working there about a week on June 27th, 2000 when her mother dropped her off for her 10:00 shift. Swimmers would be arriving any minute, but just minutes later when they started piling in for swim lessons, there was no lifeguard on duty. In a matter of minutes Molly vanished, but it would be three years before her partial remains would be discovered, and over twenty with no answers. This case remains unsolved to this day, although the investigation is very much active. **Anyone With information about the Molly Bish case should call the State Police tip line at 508-453-7575 Sources: https://www.courant.com/news/connecticut/hc-xpm-2003-06-22-0306220015-story.html https://www.telegram.com/article/20090128/NEWS/901280281 https://www.boston25news.com/news/molly-bish-rodney-stanger-may-have-crossed-paths-1/141310989/  https://www.bizjournals.com/boston/blog/mass_roundup/2013/09/molly-bish-remains-palmer-racetrack.html https://storiesoftheunsolved.com/2019/04/10/the-murder-of-molly-bish/:  https://www.masslive.com/news/2013/09/family_of_murdered_teenager_mo.html   As always thank you to our sponsors: CBS's For Heaven's sake  ThredUp: Get an extra 30% off your first order at thredUP.com/MORBID Daily Harvest: Go to DAILYHARVEST.com and enter promo code morbid to get twenty-five dollars off your first box!
