Skip Atwater is a notable figure in remote viewing and psychic research. He served in counterintelligence during the Cold War and was instrumental in launching the U.S. Army's Stargate Project, where he recruited and trained intelligence officers to conduct remote viewing for the Department of Defense and other national intelligence agencies. Composer and electric guitar virtuoso Steven Mackey is known for his innovative combinations of timbres, instruments, genres and forms from both Western classical and rock/pop traditions. Australian poet Ross Donlon reads from his collection in Pearse Street Library on 13 May 2015 as part of the Libraries' 'Speaking Words' Series. Ross Donlon lives in Castlemaine in Australia. His poems have been widely published in Australia and Ireland. The Blue Dressing Gown was published in 2011 by Profile Poetry. Tightrope Horizon (Five Islands Press) was published in 2003. Shh and Other Love Poems and My Ship were published by Mark Time Books in 2009. Shh has been anthologised in Poems for All Occasions and elsewhere. In 2014 Ross published Awakening: Poems from the collection of the Castlemaine Art Gallery and Light Travelling: a sampler of new and collected poems. His latest book is Sjøvegan (The Sea Road). In 2009 Ross was awarded the Varuna Writers' House Dorothy Hewett Flagship Fellowship for Poetry, and in 2010 he was awarded the Wenlock Festival Poetry Prize at the Arvon International Poetry Competition by chief judge, Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy. Some families just have music in their genes, and Eloise Laws happens to belong to one. As well as being a talented vocalist and an "evocative arranger for piano, hand drums, violin and the Kalimba" in her own right, she is also the sister of the world renowned flutist Hubert and saxophonist Ronnie, who produced this sweet little Christmas goody of an album called, "Favorites." The 5 track CD is beautiful, and is so welcome this special time of year, breaking away from some of the traditional songs and incorporating a jazzy vocal spin to the season. Eloise has a voice that is strong, beautiful, and passionate, and those qualities come across loud and clear on each track, which are also wonderfully arranged. "The Key" is probably my favorite song, as I absolutely love the lyrics and her vocal performance is superb. She digs deep and makes you feel what she's singing.
