Steve Martin plays Neal Page, an overworked executive just trying to get home two days before Thanksgiving to his family. Del Griffith is a loud mouth overweight blabber mouth salesman that seemingly loves only to talk people to death, followed by enjoying life as a perpetual slob. But this odd couple gets stuck together, and they have the road trip of a lifetime via planes, trains, buses, and automobiles. Along with way hands are shoved into butts, the F-Bomb is laced together in a way that'll make your mother cry with tears and your dad cry with laughter, and six different Dodge LeBaron's give their life to become so famous as the best buddy car of all time that it ended up in Deadpool and and Wolverine. This is an absolutely perfect, quotable, re-watchable, funny, thoughtful, sad, loving, and hilarious movie that we'll all watch on Thanksgiving until we die. 10 Turkey Rolls! Legit Movie Car Facts: -Six custom-painted, green 1986 Dodge 600 convertibles served as comic relief throughout the movie modified with the Lebaron grille, headlights, taillights, and wood siding. . The cars were re-branded as a fictional Gran Detroit, Farm and Country Edition. -Chrysler wanted no part of any relationship with the car. -No actual Town & Country convertibles were destroyed during filming because the studio found plain '86 Dodge 600s and Chrysler LeBarons, painted them green, and then applied the stock wood trim afterward. -Special “D” hood badges replaced Chrysler ones on convertibles used in the movie. -It is so famous that it made a cameo in Dealpool vs Wolverine -The enormous wire wheel covers were a joke. -The color green was chosen by John Hughes himself to go with the wood siding. The car is a nod to another famous Hughes movie car, the Family Truckster from National Lampoons Vacation.   -Only one of the cars survived and was repainted a cream color. It was last seen in Los Angeles in 2009.  ======================================== Join up via Patreon at patreon.com/KFSHOW Kibbe, Corndog, and the Bern! This 1987 film features Steve Martin as the tense marketing exec Neal Page and John Candy as the kind-hearted but bothersome shower curtain ring salesman Del Griffith. Despite their disagreements, they travel together on a three-day journey of mishaps in an effort to return Neal to Chicago from NYC in time for Thanksgiving dinner with his family. Assisting in this endeavor are two very special guests; JOHN & HEIDI SMALL (owners of Sunny Radio in Sioux Falls, SD). John and Heidi have recently been involved in their own celebration of PTA. They've done some great giveaways in conjunction with Fathom events, and more importantly, they've reproduced the severely damaged and burnt Marathon Rental Car which, in the film, was used to get Del Griffith and Neal Page from St. Louis to just within 100 miles of Chicago; until the car was impounded of course. This reproduction of the car was driven by John and Heidi in a parade or two, as well as all around the Sioux Falls metro area. John dressed up as Del Griffith (complete with the single red glove) and Heidi dressed as Neal Page. Find out more about the car at themoviecar.com. We are joined by a special guest, Marmaduke Karlston, to review and recast this John Hughes comedy that stars Steve Martin as Neal Page, a high-strung marketing executive, and John Candy as Del Griffith, a goodhearted but annoying shower curtain ring salesman. They share a three-day odyssey of misadventures trying to get Neal home to Chicago in time for Thanksgiving with his family. The film received critical acclaim, with many critics praising it for Hughes branching out from teen comedies, and for the performances of Candy and Martin. We decided to put a twist on our normal recasting format where Kane plays studio exec as Sailor and Duke try to sell their casting picks to get them selected for the film. We discuss John Hughes as he transitioned from teen movies to more adult and family films. We also try to answer why this underperformed at the box office with three 80s icons involved.

Hello again Gen X Enthusiasts, In this episode Starchy and Johnny got together to discuss the most amazing and classic movie that celebrates the trials and tribulations of getting home for Thanksgiving.  Released in 1987, Planes Trains and Automobiles was directed by John Hughes and starred Steve Martin as Neal Page and John Candy as Del Griffith.  The movie was a perfectly written comedy to be the ideal example of how bad a business trip can go, especially when attempting to get home in time to celebrate Thanksgiving.  This amazing movie means a lot to Johnny and in this episode he described what he did to make an audio stereo cassette soundtrack during his first year of junior college after being at KYDS 91.5 FM radio in Sacramento during his senior year of high screwl back in 1991.  Johnny went as far as trying to make his own stereo cassette soundtrack after purchasing a used vinyl record of the original motion picture soundtrack of Planes Trains and Automobiles  Johnny also describes the attention that he paid to the progression of the movie and explains how over the years he has tried to remember to keep track of where and what Neal and Del are doing between Tuesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon of Thanksgiving week.  Thank you for listening to the Gen X Talk Podcast with Starchy Archie and Johnny Pendejo.  Special shout out to the Buzzsprouts chap from Brooklyn New York who said that he would listen to our podcast last week.  We hope he enjoys this episode as well.  #genxtalkwithstarchyarchieandjohnnypendejo#planestrainsandautomobiles#johnhughes#nealpage#delgriffith

Happy Thanksgiving from The Plotaholics! This week, we've gone to the classics for some Thanksgiving week content! This week, we take a look at the 1987 John Hughes Thanksgiving Classic, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, starring Steve Martin as Marketing executive Neal Page who is on a mission to get home to his family for Thanksgiving following a business trip. Neal runs into one horrible situation after another when he meets good-natured doofus and shower curtain ring salesman, Del Griffith, played by the late, great John Candy. Rental agreements, trains, planes, and automobiles abound in this hilarious and touching comedy that showcases a great talent that we lost too soon in John Candy. Happy Thanksgiving! Neal Page is the lead singer and guitarist, Tom Gilhuley is the drummer and vocalist of "Panic Problem". Panic Problem was formed in Baltimore with a clear effort to pay homage to the 90's era of power pop punk bands like Bouncing Souls, Green Day, Lagwagon and others. The because everyone needs to stay home and safe, this episode had allot of self reflective statements that might not have been mentioned if we didn't need to stay in isolation. One of my favourite episodes with some stand up dudes! Their new album "Just Calm Down" is out now and is self released. It's a great album. In 1987, John Hughes brought together the comedic geniuses Steve Martin and John Candy in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.  Martin plays Neal Page, a man who wants to get home to Chicago for Thanksgiving dinner. But a combination of bad weather, bad luck, and Kevin Bacon keep working against his best efforts. Enter Candy’s Del Griffith, a friendly but obtuse shower curtain salesman who is as clueless as he is sweet. What sounds like a minor inconvenience in 2019 is a huge setback in 1987, as a lack of internet, cell phones and mainstream use of credit cards keep Neal and Del from gaining any traction in the battle against time.  An odd couple buddy comedy ensues as we have man-on-man cuddling in beer-soaked sheets, near-death experiences to the tune of Mess Around, and heartfelt realizations of self-discovery and compassion.  Made for $30M, PT&A brought in $50M in the box office was received to positive critical acclaim as the film marked a departure for John Hughes from teen comedies. But does it hold up?  Listen as Jon, Colin and Brent try to make it back in time for turkey and see if the food, fun and family are worth the time spent on various mediums of transportation, or if they are better off grabbing some fast food alone and not wasting their time sitting with strangers and inhaling the fumes of flatulence, bad breath, and body odour.
