This week in physical media, Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski look at John Waters getting the Criterion treatment. There are a pair of middle-of-the-road (at best) upgrades for Adam Sandler as well as a film with his Bulletproof co-star. James Garner and Bruce Willis in a Hollywood western murder mystery misfire but thankfully Clint Eastwood is also here to save the day. There is the Takashi Miike film that makes good use of the term “not for the squeamish.” And while the subject matter of one death after another did not bode well for a Robin Williams film about heaven and hell, the duo make the case that it was worth a revisit.1:33 - Criterion (Desperate Living (4K), Hairspray (1987) (4K))31:57 - Alliance (Sunset)41:09 - Kino (Hang ‘Em High (4K), Major Payne)1:00:15 - Sony (50 First Dates (4K), Click (4K))1:17:40 - Shout (What Dreams May Come (4K))1:37:51 - Arrow (Audition (4K))1:54:38 – New TV on Blu-ray (Masters of the Universe: Revelation/Revolution (Steelbook), I Know What You Did Last Summer: The Complete Series)1:56:23 - New Theatrical Titles on Blu-ray (Alpha (2025), Magellan, Mr. K, Pools, The Last Showgirl)2:01:10 - New Blu-ray AnnouncementsCLICK ON THE FILMS TO RENT OR PURCHASE AND HELP OUT THE MOVIE MADNESS PODCAST OR BUY FROM MOVIEZYNGBe sure to check outErik's Weekly Box Office Column – At Rotten TomatoesCritics' Classics Series – At Elk Grove Cinema in Elk Grove Village, ILChicago Screening Schedule - All the films coming to theaters and streamingPhysical Media Schedule - Click & Buy upcoming titles for your library.(Direct purchases help the Movie Madness podcast with a few pennies.)Erik's Linktree - Where you can follow Erik and his work anywhere and everywhere. The Movie Madness Podcast has been recognized by Million Podcasts as one of the Top 100 Best Movie Review Podcasts as well as in the Top 60 Film Festival Podcasts and Top 100 Cinephile Podcasts. Welcome to the place where we get to let our geek flags fly and talk about all things geek. Basically a fuzzy guide to life, the universe, and everything but mostly geek stuff. This level of the podcast is a window into The Marshall and me as veterans of the US Armed Forces through a fun conversation about military movies. Not really biographies of us but there's some glimpses and a chat about 33 military movies from 1970-2024. Crazy that our lists only had 6 crossovers. That said, you know this is a meaty geek chat. Boyle shows his kids another 90s favorite.
In this episode the Guardians look at 90's comedy extraordinnare, Damon Wayans, who plays a hardened Marine dumped into a kids' military academy, where his brutal discipline meets a pack of soft, smart-mouthed cadets. This episode unpacks the slapstick violence, the messed-up pep talks, the surprising heart under all the yelling, and why this oddball comedy still sticks in our heads. Think tough-as-nails drill training mixed with cartoon logic. We look at what works, what aged strangely, and why Major Payne is both ridiculous and strangely lovable, even when he threatens to break a kid's finger to cure sadness. Tune in for sarcasm, nostalgia, and a salute you might regret.
Luck found its way to Matt Men Movies because we were lucky enough to spend some time with Steven Martini. You might know him from his as Alex J Stone from Major Payne and he has a new movie out now called Bittersweet available now to watch!
Fall in line, recruits! Dom, ILL, and Q march into the world of Damon Wayans' 1995 comedy Major Payne. Directed by Nick Castle, this loose remake of The Private War of Major Benson follows the no-nonsense Major Payne as he takes charge of a ragtag group of cadets in the most hilarious way possible. From Payne's tough-love training methods to the film's wild blend of discipline and comedy, the crew breaks down whether this '90s classic still packs a punch — or if it should've stayed in the barracks.Does Damon Wayans' sharp humor hold up today? Find out in this laugh-filled reviewMajorPayne #DamonWayans #90sComedy #SayWhatsReel #MovieReviewMajor Payne is a 1995 American military comedy film directed by Nick Castle and starring Damon Wayans, who wrote with Dean Lorey and Gary Rosen. On Episode #136 of Fear and Loathing in Cinema, the four of us Green boys decided to lace up our metaphorical combat boots and enlist, not in the Marines, but in the 1995 Damon Wayans comedy Major Payne. For some of us, this film has long been chiselled into the granite face of the Comedy Mount Rushmore, somewhere between Airplane! and Blazing Saddles. For others, namely Chelsea, the podcast's resident conscientious objector, it was a first deployment. The post Episode #136 – Major Payne (1995) first appeared on Boomstick Comics.
On the 35th anniversary of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" We are joined today by the amazing Karyn Parsons. Known for her iconic role on the equally iconic sitcom we sit down with "Hilary Banks" to talk about how much the show means to people 35 years later, favorite moments on set, and doing comic cons and meeting fans of the show so many years later. BUT! That's not all! We also talk about her first major roll in the horror film "Death Spa" and what is was like working with Damon Waynes in "Major Payne". All this and our lightning round! Come share some laughs with us!Rock!

It's once again time for Will to hate on another beloved childhood movie of Oli and Ryan. We head to the great state of Virginia where the only 'Major Payne' Will was feeling was a deep-seated hatred of anyone named Wayans. Denzel Washington helps end racism in America with a 'by the numbers' movie that is still a touchdown in our hearts in 'Remember The Titans'. But in pole position this week for the fellas is notorious flop 'D.A.R.Y.L.' - an absolute banger of a movie that has heart, sci-fi. Top Gun like shenanigans and unfortunately no epic robot super fight to the death... it does however teach us all about hookers Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

But not really.
Dick Ebert wonders why Damon Wayans wasn't in more movies after filming "Major Payne." Gene Lyons wonders why Damon Wayans was in any more movies after filming "Major Payne." This 1995 comedy featuring the musical stylings of 2 Live Crew and star power of Michael Ironside and Bam Bam Bigelow had us asking what was wrong with Major Payne's romantic interest (Karyn Parsons) and why any director would allow sped-up motion in his movie. While Gene bemoaned Major Payne's misrepresentation of JROTC, Big D found some nuggets of truth in the movie's tough-love message. And both agreed Louis Gossett Jr. was the man to take the lead role to another level.
