Dan, Manny, & Billy invite friend & fan of the pod Meghan P. Nolan to put the 1985 action/adventure comedy The Goonies to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “I had this epiphany while I was watching it this time where I was like, ‘Holy shit! Like Goonies are just like a bunch of nerds, they're all just sitting around playing D&D, Mikey is the dungeon master, and this is their quest.” -Meghan P. Nolan Around 2 years ago, Meghan sent us a suggestion to put The Goonies to the ultimate test and because Dan is super lazy it took him this long to get her on the pod. This episode is off the rails from the start filled with classic Nostalgia Test drops and a live Zoom audience of one, (haha! it's a start) Courtney from the Fiction Fixation Podcast who added some hilarious ideas while Billy dealt with his North Carolina internet service. The gang talks about “Goonies” comes from their town name The Goon Docks, what did the parents of these kids do to get all their houses foreclosed on, why was Troy and his flunkies hanging around a wishing well, are the Fratellis really Italian, and who was resetting One Eyed Willie's booby traps in the 1600s. They also analyze all the amazing characters, unpack the stereotypes, plot holes, and put Cindy Lauper's song to a quick Nostalgia Test. Most importantly, they talk about the real heroes of this movie Rosalita and Sloth. This episode is what The Nostalgia Test is all about, laughter, hot takes, and a bunch of hypothetical scenarios for what a Goonies sequel or TV series might look like. This is a must-listen for any fan of 80s classics. Email us (thenostalgiatest@gmail.com) your thoughts, opinions, and questions about this episode or anything else nostalgic on your mind and we'll read it for next time on the pod! In this episode of The Sophisticated Ratchet Podcast, the crew dives deep into the emotional rollercoaster of "spinning the block"—aka giving an ex another shot. The tribe keeps it raw and relatable as they share personal stories of rekindled romances, from vacation flings to unresolved heartbreaks. The squad dissects the red flags of revisiting old flames, like whether family apologies matter in reconciliation or if unresolved issues are just time bombs waiting to go off. They also spill on the subtle signs that an ex might be trying to creep back into your life—are they genuinely interested or just bored? The conversation heats up with celebrity comparisons, analyzing high-profile rekindled romances like Ben Affleck & JLo's love story versus Ashanti & Nelly's unexpected reunion. Are these fairytale endings proof that love deserves a second chance, or cautionary tales about repeating past mistakes? But it's not all about love—things get spicy when the crew debates body counts, physical attraction, and deal breakers in relationships. Plus, they get creative with business ideas inspired by relationships and wrap it all up with their signature “Ratchet Fire” game, where no topic is off-limits. Whether you're considering spinning the block with your ex or firmly leaving them in the past, this episode is packed with hilarious anecdotes, sharp insights, and thought-provoking takes that'll make you rethink love and second chances. There's a big difference between investing and speculating. Speculating is exciting. Investing is less exciting, but more predictable over time. Great investors like Warren Buffet, Charles Munger, Howard Marks and others, are boring investors. With the right asset classes and the right operators, Real Estate is a slow and steady, boring investment vehicle, but can also entail risk. Over the past couple years, many investors have lost money. One way to mitigate this risk is to invest with experienced fund operators who vet the operators and the opportunities for you. Paul Moore, The Boring Investor and Founder of Wellings Capital, is operating his sixth successful fund that invests across recession resistant asset classes.

We dive into the Fantastic Four's dynamic, the potential role of Doctor Doom, Galactus' looming threat, and how this film may connect to the larger MCU. We also talk about the visual aesthetics, character performances, and what this means for future Marvel films. Timestamps & Topics 00:00 – Introduction: Early morning reactions to the Fantastic Four trailer 00:38 – Watching the trailer live: Initial reactions and hype 01:13 – The Fantastic Four's family dynamic and why it stands out 01:50 – The retro-futuristic aesthetic of New York City in the film 02:35 – The Baxter Building, its significance, and NYC's superhero landscape 03:07 – The city's destruction: Will Galactus wipe this world out? 03:41 – Ben Grimm's role and how The Thing is portrayed in this version 04:53 – Fantastic Four vs. Hulk: How The Thing compares in power 05:55 – Powers in the MCU: Johnny's new fire effects and Sue's invisibility changes 06:41 – Fantastic Four suit designs: A subtle 60s influence? 07:37 – How this world could connect to the MCU and possible multiverse implications 08:29 – Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards: A new take on the character 09:48 – Reed Richards' personality: The reserved genius vs. Tony Stark's arrogance 11:48 – The intimate moments in the trailer that make it stand out 12:16 – The music: Why it's a perfect fit for this nostalgic take on Marvel 12:57 – Ben Grimm's emotional moment: Evan Marsback's performance is going to hit hard 14:18 – Red Ghost and Mole Man: How deep will this movie go into classic villains? 15:46 – Could Doctor Doom be introduced in this film? Speculating his MCU debut 17:10 – Matthew Vaughn's direction: Expecting strong character moments and aesthetics 18:28 – Fantastic Four comic reading recommendations from Thomas 19:44 – What's next for Marvel: Upcoming projects in 2025 Key Takeaways Fantastic Four is embracing a retro-futuristic New York, setting it apart from the standard MCU aesthetic. This version of the Fantastic Four is already established heroes, skipping the traditional origin story format. The Baxter Building's introduction adds another iconic superhero HQ to the MCU. The trailer hints at major destruction, likely tying into Galactus and multiverse events. Ben Grimm's emotional journey seems to be at the heart of this film. Doctor Doom's role is still unknown, but his presence feels inevitable. The Fantastic Four's powers look visually distinct compared to past iterations. Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards seems to lean into a more introverted, anxious genius, differentiating him from Tony Stark. Reading recommendation: The current Fantastic Four run by Ryan North is a great place for new readers to jump in. Memorable Quotes
