As one door closes, in the form of yet another New Zealand International comedy festival this winter, a few small trapdoors seem to be opening up for our comedians. Over the past couple of years most of our established comedians haven't been able to attend any of the international comedy festivals that have been able to go ahead, But there's a prediction that New Zealand will see an influx of new pro's launching their careers here next year, due to a backlog of talent desperate to perform live shows. After a drop in turnover of more than 60% in the first 3 months of this year, Auckland's Classic comedy venue is bringing back its Thursday Pro Nights from later this month . Plus, the 2021 Raw Comedy Quest will finally have a Grand Final on June 4th at The Classic. We brought together Scott Blanks who runs the Comedy, Lauren Whitney from the Comedy Trust that runs the festival, and Wellington comedian and comedy producer Jerome Chandrahasan. First Lauren explains to Lynn why the 2022 New Zealand International comedy festival had to be cancelled

The New Zealand International Film Festival has announced it will be holding the festival online in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.A statement on the festival's website said it was no longer able to present the 2020 programme as planned, with restrictions on gatherings likely to remain in place for months.Director of the film festival Marten Rabarts says their decision to hold the festival online comes after the postponement and cancellation of other major film festivals, like Cannes, New York's Tribeca, and Sydney. The festival's organisers have worked closely with filmmakers and distributors to adapt the way films are presented to audiences. "After the initial realisation and heartbreak of not being able to provide our Film Festival whānau an in-cinema experience this year we've worked quickly, while leaning on our strong relationships with filmmakers, distributors and sales agents, to ensure we are able to confidently adapt the way in which we'll present their films to our dedicated audience across the country." "This is an extraordinary situation and we need to adapt to find a creative solution for 2020," says Catherine Fitzgerald, chair of the NZ Film Festival Trust.Rabarts says they are working on upgrading existing technology to ensure a smooth video on-demand experience, complete with virtual red carpets, filmmaker Q&A's, and New Zealand premieres of films."We are working with our on-demand provider Shift72 on the technology to deliver a 'bells and whistles' digital screening room, coupled with live streaming events possibilities on our own website."The programme for the festival launches on June 22.NZIFF At Home - Online will be held from July 24 to August 2.

The New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF) is nearly upon us again. In Wellington the festival has been screening for 45 years, of which Bill Gosden has overseen more than 30 years in the role of Director. He joins us today on B-Side Stories at 5pm to chat about the role that the festival plays for the NZ film industry and what we should be looking out for in the programme this year.
Steve Hughes and Tom Rhodes talk about everything pertinent on a rainy Saturday in Auckland during the New Zealand International comedy festival. May 2013.
After a long absence, and foiled in their plans to provide during-fest coverage by illness, Doug & Jacob return give you a *brief* run down of their NZFF2012 experience but do so whilst studiously avoiding their top 9 film lists, to be heard about in an upcoming episode. After talking this year's audiences our eager cinegeeks delve into the 35 odd films that got edged out of top placing or wallowed at the bottom of their lists. Add scotch to taste, and enjoy.
Stayed by the bell! From deep within the bowels of Auckland’s beautiful Civic theatre Doug & Jacob bring a near-the-end NZFF 2011 report. As well as impromptu toilet-traffic directing, we race the bell to reach a BWP middle-ground of 14 films in 13 minutes. Well done us! We also stumble upon possibly the perfect Best Worst Podcast double feature selection to date. Add scotch to taste, and enjoy.
25 Films in only 9 minutes! Add scotch to taste, and enjoy.
