This episode's a gem—Peter and comedian Tom Rhodes join forces for a co-episode airing on both their podcasts recorded in Amsterdam! It's two storytellers swapping tales about travel, comedy, and the chaos of life. Tom reflects on his time hosting a Dutch late-night show (as Kevin Masters, of all names), fumbling through cultural quirks, and falling in love with Amsterdam. Meanwhile, Peter reflects on how seeing Tom take the leap to live abroad inspired his own journey to Amsterdam, turning a pipe dream into a reality. Then there's his Hooray for Humanity vibe. Even with all the chaos in the world, Tom's still finding reasons to believe in people. He draws inspiration from Voltaire's Candide, which is about someone stumbling through the mess of life but holding onto hope. That's kind of Tom's whole thing: seeing the mess, laughing at it, and still loving humanity. They dig into: The beauty of just trying to live a chill, happy life no matter where you're from. The magic of Amsterdam as a tiny village with the energy of a global city. How humor (and tattoos) can cut through cultural walls and bring people together. Humor crosses every border, and travel opens you up to just how similar we all are. Shut-the-heck-up day in Bali? Genius. We should all try it. Tom's vibe from his solo show Hooray for Humanity shines throughout—hopeful, funny, and unapologetically real. It's a conversation about finding joy and connection, even when the world's a mess. If you're into wild stories, smart humor, and some honest reflection, this one's for you. Keep an eye out for Tom's upcoming special The Ripest Zebras and dive into Peter's work—tattoos, creativity, and all. Two voices, one great conversation. On the night of August 2, 1996, Tom Rhodes and his wife Jane were on a boat ride on Green Lake, in Minnesota, when Jane fell overboard. Tom failed to find Jane, and her body was discovered the next day. Police suspected Tom from the get-go, focusing on previous marriage and financial troubles. This led the medical examiner to give his initial finding of undetermined cause of death a second look – working backwards from police suspicions, and eventually changing the cause of death to homicide. Tom was eventually sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder. Click here to see the entire interview on our YouTube channel. In this episode @ashnarodjan & I talk about this excellent new book I just finished reading called 'The Mysterion' by Kabir Helminski which is about Rumi and the secrets of becoming fully human. This book teaches you how to block out all of the negativity in the world & plug into the outlet of cosmic love. I fall short of this way of being all the time but this is a damn good book for reminding you how to live and view the world with the loving heart of the Sufi mystic poet Rumi. We also talk about the release of my third clean album of clean comedy "King of HA HA'. This week on Yes But Why, I chatted with Austin comedian, Kat Ramzinski. Kat Ramzinski is a Stand Up Comic, Writer, Actor and Musician, best known for her story-telling abilities and that time she was stabbed. Kat has been showcased on the comedy docuseries “Cracking Up” on the Mental Health Channel, and the PBS show “Stand Up Empire”. Kat has performed Stand Up comedy at Moontower Comedy Festival, End of the Earth Fest, Ladies are Funny Fest, and Rob Van Dam's “Whole F'n Comedy Tour.” She has acted in short films, voiced characters in animated series, and hosted a wrestling podcast called SuperChick Party. As her musical comedy/hip hop persona Versace Kolache, Kat has been featured on NBC's “First Look” and she has earned the title of reigning Fantastic Fest Nerd Rap Throwdown Champion. Her Versace Kolache performances include comedy rap battle videos and parodies, some that she performs herself and others she has written for others, that have amassed over 20-million views on the Chickbait and Nerdist Youtube channels. In our conversation, Kat regales me with wild stories of hosting her high school's talent show, meeting her hero The Amazing Johnathan, and managing rock bands. She talks about going to the Funniest Person in Austin contest one year and being inspired to get into comedy by Ruby Collins. She tells me about the defensive driving class that ultimately led to her opening a Stand Up show for Matt Golightly and Tom Rhodes. We gab about comedy and religion and what it was like to meet Kevin Allison. Support Kat Ramzinski by listening to her Versace Kolache music on soundcloud or watching her videos on YouTube. #versacekolacheraps You can also catch Kat hosting Stand Up comedy show, “Kolache Party” every Thursday at Creek and the Cave in Austin.
