Ben Gosden, pastor of Trinity Church in Savannah Georgia takes us on a deep dive into addiction, recovery and ministry. Years into a success ministry as a United Methodist pastor, Ben found himself struggling with alcoholism. Listen in as he shares a powerful testimony about the transformational power of 12 steps. We don't merely talk about alcoholism but about the deeper roots of addiction. Addiction isn't really even the problem per se; addiction is a solution but its a bad solution to even deeper problems. It's a bonus! This week, Chase found us a case, and it's a WEIRD one. Andrew Gosden was 14 years old when he skipped school, took a train to London, and was never seen again. Andrew didn't have any social media accounts, had perfect attendance, was on his way to University, and just kept to himself. He left home with his PSP, withdrew $200 in cash, and disappeared. The other strange thing, there is no CCTV footage of him in one of the world's most surveillance cities. Make sure you stick around as we upload episodes every Monday. Church and Main: At the Intersection of Religion and Public Life
Today, we will talk about what's going on United Methodist Church, how it got to this point that's it's splitting in two and what is the future of the church. I'm talking with not one, but two guests. Drew McIntryre is a frequent guest on Church and Main and is the pastor of Grace United Methodist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina. Ben Gosden is the Senior Pastor of Trinity United Methodist in Savannah, GA and this is his second time on the podcast. We had a great discussion that is actually broken up into two parts. The main part is about the United Methodists in General and a smaller part talks about the former Bishop and writer Will Willimon, his role in the UMC and what it means to be an institutionalist. One quick note; Ben had some technical issues, which I tried to fix, but if there are still glitches that's what it is. I hope you enjoyed the episode. Just a reminder that it takes a lot to make great content like this available to you. Consider making donation by going to Church and Main's website at churchandmain.org.
It was the 14th of September 2007, and the sun was still very much alive in the UK, not yet succumbing to autumn's bite. The Gosden family were all getting ready for the day ahead, the youngest of the family, Andrew, had a little more difficulty waking up than usual and his mother, Glenys, noticed he seemed irritable. Other from that, Andrew went about getting himself together for school and about 8 am was after leaving for the bus. He was observed by a family friend who had been sitting on a park bench not too far from the bus stop heading on his usual route. However, Andrew did not go to school that morning. Instead, Gosden went to an ATM, withdrew 200 pounds, returned home, changed from school uniform to a black Slipknot T shirt and black jeans and whisked his wallet, keys and PSP (PlayStation Portable) into a distinctive schoolbag that had a variety of rock and metal band patches on it. Andrew then left home, and this was the last time he was ever there again. In today's bizarre case, we look at the 15 year long perplexing disappearance of Andrew Gosden. Nick talks today at some length to rider Hollie Doyle, who on Sunday became the first woman to ride the winner of a major European Classic on the John Gosden trained Nashwa. Nick and Dave examine the significance and merit of the victory before going on to wrap up Royal Ascot, with input from Director of Comms and Public Affairs Nick Smith. Dave and Nick analyse the consumer experience at the Royal meeting, the field sizes, the ground conditions and the variety of human stories, and wonder how the next few weeks will play out for Gosden and Frankie Dettori. Trainer David Simcock tells Nick why stable star Cash is missing the Irish Derby this weekend, while Tattersalls' Bobby Jackson previews the July Sale, which includes two Royal Ascot winners.

"They didn't teach that in seminary." That's the phrase you will hear a pastor say sometimes as they encounter an unexpected situation. But the education of a minister doesn't end when they get their Masters of Divinity degree. Indeed, it is a lifelong education that can last decades. Methodist pastor Ben Gosden began writing a series of articles on his blog to new pastors, sharing some of the knowledge he's learned in over a decade of ministry. Ben is the Lead Pastor of Trinity United Methodist in Savannah, GA. We talk about what he's learned in over a decade of being in the pulpit, as well as how to talk about racism and privilege. He even gives me some needed advice. Covered In the Master's Dust- Ben's Website Faith Revisited Podcast Like what you hear? Leave a tip. The Todd Gosden Team of Compass Mortgage has done over 400 transactions so far this year and as Todd tells it that's all do to his 33 touch program.
