We Discuss this Article written by Mark Sheldon on MLB.com CINCINNATI -- When it comes to finding Reds broadcasts on television during the 2025 season, the new network name will be easy to learn. Say hello to simply, "Reds TV." Major League Baseball and the club announced on Thursday that MLB will produce and distribute Reds local TV broadcasts next season. That means Reds games will no longer be shown on Bally Sports Ohio, which was recently rebranded as FanDuel Sports Network Ohio, as its parent company, the Diamond Sports Group, worked through exiting bankruptcy. “With this arrangement, Major League Baseball essentially ended blackouts for fans in our seven-state home television territory and increased the reach of our game broadcasts exponentially," said Doug Healy, the Reds' chief operating officer and chief financial officer. The Reds are following the Brewers, Twins and Guardians in moving away from the regional sports network model this offseason. Last season, MLB produced and aired games for the Padres, Diamondbacks and Rockies. Those arrangements included cable and satellite distribution, as well as direct-to-consumer streaming options. That means there will be more options for fans who want to watch Reds games on their various screens next season. "Partnering with Major League Baseball ensures a bright future for our televised game coverage," Reds president/CEO Phil Castellini said. "This collaboration provides fans with unprecedented access to Reds games, including direct-to-consumer streaming with no blackouts, while maintaining traditional cable and satellite TV options." Here is what Reds fans need to know about the changes: Where can I find the games on my cable, satellite or streaming service? If you've already been watching Reds games via a cable or satellite provider, those games will still be available for you to watch from that same provider in 2025. For fans who do not have cable or satellite service in Cincinnati's home television territory, the games will now be available via a subscription to MLB's streaming service – with no blackouts. The Reds had an average reach of 1.1 million households on its RSN during the 2024 season. With MLB's direct-to-consumer streaming option, Cincinnati's games will be able to reach approximately 13.5 million homes. According to Healy, the expectation is that anyone with an existing package will continue to have that same package on their cable provider. “Nothing will really change for fans that have an existing TV package that includes FanDuel Sports [Network Ohio],” he said. What about Reds fans who live in outlying areas of the Greater Cincinnati region but are situated in other team's TV market territories? “We have a very wide home television territory. We cover seven states," Healy said. "We bleed into West Virginia, into North Carolina. We're throughout Tennessee, throughout Kentucky, throughout the majority of Ohio, the majority of Indiana and we even go down into Mississippi. “There will be no blackouts going forward. Anyone in our home television territory will be able to purchase Reds games through this over-the-top, direct-to-consumer streaming package.” How much will the streaming service cost? Prices for 2025 will be set at a later date. Similar to other clubs, fans will have the option to purchase only Reds games or bundle this local package with MLB.TV to stream all games around the league. In 2024, these local packages for the Padres, Rockies and Diamondbacks were $19.99 per month or $99.99 for the season. Fans who bundled the local package with MLB.TV to get games all over the league paid $39.99 per month, or $199.99 for the season. Who will be calling Reds games on TV? That is still to be determined. “We haven't had a chance to sit down and finalize our broadcaster lineup for the 2025 season," Healy said. "We will be doing that in the not-to-distant future.” Will there still be pregame and postgame shows? “The short answer is ‘yes,' although they will more than likely have a different look and feel for fans," Healy said. "We are still working with Major League Baseball on formatting details.” What happens to the other Bally Sports Ohio talent and staff that works behind the scenes? It takes a staff of dozens -- from camera operators to producers and directors and other men and women behind the scenes -- to produce a live broadcast. These people are not Reds employees, but are often contracted workers. “I think it's important, especially for the staff behind the scenes in addition to the TV talent, that we want to retain as many of the same folks as we possibly can," Healy said. "Before we make any commitments, we want to make sure that we have had conversations with MLB." Will the telecasts I'm used to look different? The Reds will be drawing on MLB's expertise in producing game coverage, which it has done since 2009 on MLB Network. “We can tap into their innovative coverage of games," Healy said. "Fans are going to see significant enhancements to the broadcasts with different camera angles and other items that we anticipate will be really well received by our fans.” Local games produced by MLB last year included special features normally associated with nationally televised games. They included "Ump Cam," live look-ins to the MLB Replay Operations Center, "Wire Cam," on-field locations for pregame and postgame shows and increased access like in-game interviews with players." Healy added that MLB-produced games have the capability to do live look-ins of other pivotal games that might affect the Reds – a feature the NFL has had for decades during Sunday football broadcasts. “Especially if we're in the playoff hunt down the stretch, we're going to get a lot of live look-ins that say, ‘Hey let's see what's going on with the Brewers tonight or what's going on with the Cardinals game,'" Healy said. How many years will MLB handle broadcasting and distribution for the Reds? "The Reds view MLB as a long-term rights partner solution," Healy said. "The migration to MLB Media marks a new era of club content distribution and 2025 is just the beginning.” How will this impact player payroll in 2025? "We will maintain payroll levels at or above 2024," Healy said. "And we will continue to give Nick Krall, Terry Francona and the entire Reds baseball operations the resources they need to field a championship caliber team at the major league level."
Chad and Chris break down all the transactions from the trade deadline, and there were actually a few! We also tried to discern what the Reds' plan is, and review all of Nick Krall's comments about his strategy. And finally: yes, Phil Castellini just got a promotion. We have to discuss it, right? Today's word of the day is 'injuries and distractions' as in those were the 2 rules we said yesterday to avoid in Spring Training. And guess what? Yesterday, that's all it was. Let's start with Jacob deGrom… you're not going to believe it. (7:10) Stephen Strasburg had another setback. Oh boy. (8:10) The Boston Red Sox are in a tough spot. Trevor Story said he's likely out the season. Chris Sale is supposed to be coming back. (14:35) The Los Angeles Angels will do everything in their power to keep Shohei Ohtani. How will they do it? Mike Trout has some ideas. (19:10) What about distractions in Pittsburgh? Plenty of them! The biggest is Bryan Reynolds and his trade requests. Oh boy. (22:55) So what's going on in Cincinnati? Well, Rob Manfred had some things to say about Phil Castellini. (26:50) What about the Yankees? Another injury. Frankie Montas is likely out for the year. What else can go wrong? (30:30) Review: Your Place or Mine. (35:40) NPPOD. (37:00) What is going on with Bally's? Are you going to be able to see your baseball games? Are there more or less MLB blackouts? What is going on!? I heard someone say: it's thursday, but if you stand on your toes you can see friday! -- well get on those toes people! If Nick Senzel stops selling out for this one aspect of hitting he will be an important part of a Cincinnati Reds playoff team in the near future. The Reds aren't completely out of contention as early as Phil Castellini believes and Rob Manfred doesn't think too highly of Castellini's comments. Also, why is wOBA an important statistic for understanding the value of a hitter? How do the Cincinnati Reds hitters from 2022 stack up using wOBA? The Cincinnati Reds owner's son, Phil Castellini, contrived an embarrassing display of ignorance in front of a key supporter group. What he said that was so wrong (pretty much everything) and why Phil's antics will not deter some Reds fans...as much as Castellini may try. The Reds also avoided arbitration with every player eligible. The Reds also signed Luke Weaver to be the veteran presence in the clubhouse competing for a rotation spot, but that seems unlikely to actually happen. Also, the Reds announced Matt McLain, Christian Incarnation-Strand, Andrew Abbott, Connor Phillips, and Alex McGarry will all be in big league camp in Spring Training. EPISODE 113: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Now that George Santos has been tied financially to the cousin of a sanctioned Russian Oil Oligarch, and Speaker Kevin McCarthy has confirmed he won't move to oust him, the Democrats have to run with the gift the Republicans have given them. Whatever the issue, whatever the question, whatever the talking points, every Democrat, every time, must answer: "George Santos." GOP tries to blame Biden for the looming debt ceiling crisis? "You sound like George Santos!" McCarthy asks about the documents? "Why isn't the Speaker as angry at George Santos?" CNN writes another Bothsidesist article about documents? "Why isn't CNN probing George Santos and the Russian Oligarch?" Everybody insists nobody needs to investigates his ex-girlfriend's allegations of violence against Rep. James Comer? "Speaker McCarthy? In Comer, are you worried you've got another George Santos on your hands?" B-Block (16:33) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Waffles (17:31) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: If she's secretly governor why would she run for Governor? And what do the Biden documents make Ronny Jackson think of? Drugs and hookers! Of course EVERYTHING makes Ronny think of drugs and hookers. (19:36) IN SPORTS: The LIV Golf tournament, formally tied to Prince MBS and Trump; why would baseball expand, especially to Nashville? And 1962 Met Frank Thomas dies, and leaves a troubling legacy on race and teammates and Dick Allen. (26:32) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Jordan Peterson runs a climate change denial chart that ends in 1885; Germany needs a new Defense Minister (to say nothing of 5000 new helmets), and Tucker Carlson needs you to explain candy to him. C-Block (31:02) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: CNN's Chris Licht reportedly wants to hire a comedian to do a nightly newscast you can laugh at (intentionally, this time). He and others at Clicks Not News think this is a great, brand new idea. In fact, it's a lousy old one. It was first proposed at CNN...in 2001! I know: I was in the room. Today's word of the day is ‘abandoned' as in abandoned our commitment to winning as in remember when Phil Castellini told Cincinnati fans he was going to move the team and the fans need to be better and all that nonsense. The Reds are 3-22 through 25 games. Just bad. As bad as you can get. Is it tanking? Is it payroll manipulation? How did we get here? (14:20) The New York Mets came back from 6 runs down in the top of the 9th inning to beat the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets scored 7 runs! It was hit after hit after hit after hit! How is a collapse like this handled after the game? How warm is Girardi's hot seat? (25:15) Review: Ambulance. (28:30) So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about Formula 1 in Miami this weekend. It's here. The craze has taken South Beach. (39:45) NPPOD. (43:30) Sergio Garcia was on a hot mic and was furious with a PGA official. He said he was done with the Tour. He's had enough. But not enough money because the Saudi-backed tour is in his sights. Ha. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Cincinnati Reds lost every game last week and Jeff and Steve bring in Mo Egger to talk about the state of the team. The under on Reds season wins looks more and more likely to happen after these first 10 games of struggle. On top of that, Phil Castellini's comments have placed a large wedge between the Reds and the fans which is not helping things. Plus, it has to be asked, do the Reds know what they are doing at the Major League level?*SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonredsAlso follow @jefffcarr on Twitter and @carrjefff on InstagramCall or text (513) 549-0159Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!FantraxWin tickets for you and your entire fantasy baseball league to any MLB game of your choice. Happy Weekend! We have a podcast only Weekend Show today due to the OSU Spring Game, it's an extended edition as well since we're under no time limits, we chat about how Reds president Phil Castellini is the Tool of the Week, Baker had plenty to say this week, we had fun with a John Sterling HR call goof and we ate lots of pizza before Thursday's show which led to issues for the Common Man.
Luka Doncic may not play game one for the Dallas Mavericks against the Utah Jazz which begs the question, what can the Cavs do without Luka in the NBA playoffs? We also ask which top-seeded NBA playoff team is the most vulnerable and why is it the Boston Celtics? Plus, Phil Castellini, son of Cincinnati Reds principal owner Bob Castellini, made it very clear how Reds ownership views its fans and dared them to not come to Great American Ballpark. Also, Sammy Watkins is heading to the Green Bay Packers, Patrick Beverly celebrated with too much profanity and had to pay a fine, and the Oakland A's took three-of-four from the Tampa Bay Rays. Phil Castellini said some dumb stuff, and now he's getting all the smoke from Mike. Today's word of the day is ‘Tuesday' as in it's Wednesday as in just another Tuesday as in Dan Snyder and the Washington Commanders have fallen deeper and deeper in the bad place. What happened now? More misogyny? More workplace harassment? More racist logos? Nope, it's more financial issues. The US government is now trying to make an example of the Commanders after uncovering what looks like a scheme to hide millions from other teams and the NFL. Woof. (13:45) So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me a question about Phil Castellini and the comments the Reds president made about the fans on a radio show. Not only did Castellini say the fans can kick rocks, he also said if the fans don't like it the team will leave. Then he doubled down. Then he apologized. Whoops. (30:10) Review: Marry Me. (33:00) Some corrections from past episodes. (36:15) NPPOD. (40:35) A young player for the Philadelphia Phillies said that he effing hated Philly. Alex Bohm got caught on the hot mic. How about the President of the Cincinnati Reds? Phil Castellini went on WLW radio yesterday before the home opener and told the team's unhappy fans, " be careful what you ask for". Castellini was alluding to the fact that if they sell the team the new owners would most likely leave Cincinnati. Great way to appease your fans, don't ya think? Unbelievable! And of course, after the game Castellini apologized. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Cavaliers blew a tire in Brooklyn....the Guardians blew a four-run lead in Cincinnati but scored six in the 9th to ruin the Reds home opener...Lindsay Patterson of AllBengals/SI talked about Phil Castellini's comments...and Patrick Murphy of Bucknuts previewed Saturday's OSU spring game.
Phil Castellini continued to alienate Cincinnati Reds fans, multiple times, on Opening Day! Jeff and Steve have some feelings on the matter and try to articulate just how out of touch Castellini was yesterday. There was also a game yesterday and the bullpen showed some growing pains in the ninth inning leading to a loss for the Reds. Tyler Stephenson and Tyler Naquin had some good performances, though, before the doors flew off this Reds performance, but a bitched run-and-hit play with Kyle Farmer and Jake Fraley, a rough day for Tyler Mahle, and Hunter Strickland's struggles overshadowed the day. Nick Lodolo is set to debut Wednesday and the gym get you ready for what to expect from the latest young phenom pitcher for the Reds.*SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonredsAlso follow @jefffcarr on Twitter and @carrjefff on InstagramCall or text (513) 549-0159Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!FantraxWin tickets for you and your entire fantasy baseball league to any MLB game of your choice. Reds COO Phil Castellini comes on with Lance McAlister and Bill Cunningham to clear up his comments this morning with Scott Sloan and Mo Egger.
TSN MLB Analyst Steve Phillips joins OverDrive to discuss the Jays' win over the Yankees last night and the defensive improvements of Bo Bichette. Phillips shares his thoughts on how Bichette has managed to improve his footwork after an offseason where he worked with Troy Tulowitzki, Bichette embracing a leadership role with the Jays, Alek Manoah's dominant outing against the Yankees and if he could emerge as the Blue Jays best starting pitcher this season, Santiago Espinal earning an everyday role at the expense of Cavan Biggio, the controversial comments made by Cincinnati Reds president and chief operating officer Phil Castellini, and more.
Phil Castellini wants Cincinnati Reds fans to trust ownership that they know what they are doing. Jeff and Steve look at why this is so backwards. They also talk about the inflexibility of the Cincinnati Reds roster that, with two injuries to Jose Barrero and Donovan Solano, they must now have a backup shortstop who has played all of six MLB games at shortstop, in Brandon Drury. They also look at how the Reds will clear roster space for non-roster players who are clearly going to break Spring Training with the Reds. They then look at the pitching staff that is dealing with injuries to Luis Castillo and Mike Minor and why Nick Lodolo may not make the Opening Day roster, after all.*SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonredsAlso follow @jefffcarr on Twitter and @carrjefff on InstagramCall or text (513) 549-0159Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar.
