Feliz año nuevo a tod@s.

DL has the beautifully illustrated 1960's UK sci-fi book The Trigan Empire by Mike Butterworth and Don Lawrence. Scott continues his focus on D&D with the massive book Playing At The World by Jon Peterson. Lastly, DL has the new comic book mystery series Friday by creators Ed Brubaker and Marcos Martin. Kings of Anglia - Ipswich Town podcast from the EADT and Ipswich Star
Welcome to another edition of Ross meets - a series where Ross Halls catches up with former Town players to talk about their careers from the ups and the downs. In the latest episode he catches up with former Town defender Tommy Smith who spoke about his time at Town, the play-off season and playing in the World Cup in 2010 for New Zealand

Welcome to Comics Archeology! What started out as a segment during our reviews of graphic novels has now turned into a series and to start us off we will be doing a deep dive into Appendix N this month. In our first episode we asked the question 'What is Appendix N?'. In our last episode we uncovered specific Appendix N authors' influence on comics with many of them getting their publishing start in popular pulp magazines. In this episode we will shine a light on comics' influence on Dungeons & Dragons. Our last episode will conclude with Dungeons & Dragons' influence on comics. We hope you enjoy this latest exploration! Please drop us a message on the anchor app or send us an mp3 or email to kirbyskidspodcast@gmail.com. Episode #312! This week Scott and DL are back with two books. First up DL has Jack Kirby's "Spirit World". Much like "In The Days Of The Mob", this DC hardcover collects Jack Kirby's magazine work from the early 70's. After that Scott focuses on Jon Peterson's "Playing at the World". This 700 page book gives "a history of simulating wars, people and fantastic adventures from chess to role-playing games". Definitely give this episode a listen!
Bit of a weird one but inspired by Simon Sinek's latest book, "The Infinite Game" (which is totally NOT about gaming), I was feeling inspired. Actually, a call-in from Paul Stoneman nudged this along and I couldn't suppress the topic any longer. Sometimes the thoughts bubble up from my unconscious and scream to be heard. What are roleplaying games and why should we play them? Taking a look at what lies at the heart of RPGs, their value to us as human beings, and the basics of how they work. It's time to take a stab at defining what tabletop roleplaying games are all about. We also take a look at the function of RPGs and the reasons for playing them (other than just for fun). One of the greatest books on the history of the tabletop roleplaying hobby is by Jon Peterson. It is called Playing At The World. Empire of Imagination is a biography of one of Dungeons&Dragons' founders, Gary Gygax. The basic rules set to Dungeons & Dragons that Jon mentioned in the episode. The Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game Tracy's been getting into of late. One of the great classics. One of my enduring classics - Rolemaster. The World of Darkness setting for those into contemporary supernatural/monster stories.Jon's favorite RPG these days is Numenera. It's character creation system will be discussed in episodes to come.We discussed our great experience playing Hillfolk, which you can check out at the link.

This week, Troy and Bruce talk to Jon Peterson, author of the epic gaming history tome, Playing at the World: A History of Simulating Wars, People and Fantastic Adventures from Chess to Role-Playing Games. They talk about the turning points in the evolution of wargames, when a wargame becomes a role playing game and the important task of collecting and compliling gaming’s long and often small scale history.
