On the way back from a cottage weekend in beautiful Quebec, John picked up a special box of artisan releases by the popular microbrasserie Boréale . This week on Domestic Pints ONLY we discuss the brewery and then run through the box contents: the light ISA Des Chutes, the hoppy Pale Ale Des Bois, the honey sweet double Blanche Du Lac, and wrap things up with the "puffin beer", the IPA des Côtes. Joining us for the ride, for the first time, is friend of the show AUSTIN. Along the way we chat about: weird taste in glasses; Cabella hunting games; Motorace USA; urban fishing; the Pepsi Taste Challenge; and $10 breakfast at the strip club.Nous ne sommes pas fini! After sampling the first half of the UNIBROUE sample pack, this week John and Tom returned to go through the rest of the lineup. Starting with the lighter P'TITE MAUDITE variant, followed by DON DE DIEU, and the iconic LA FIN DU MONDE. Along the way we discussed: Parlez-Moi, Tom's visit to the Alberta Craft Beer Fest, John's Montreal hockey trip, finding vintage smut at flea markets, weird IG reels algorithm, and we mention getting featured on Feedspot's top Canadian Beer Podcasts (for real!).Next week we head to Ottawa for a new craft lineup!Timestamps:05:42 Beer#1 (ISA DES CHUTES)15:42 Beer#2 (PALE ALE DES BOIS)24:28 Beer#3 (DOUBLE BLANCHE DU LAC)41:39 Beer#4 (IPA DES COTES)01:01:247Wrap up, final scores, and conclusionCredits:https://www.boreale.com/produits/serie-artisan/Intro and closing song: "Drink Beer (Till the Day That I Die)" by Dazie Mae (www.daziemae.com)Artwork: IG @nartsattack (www.natalierivet.com)

This week on Domestic Pints ONLY, Tom and John sample some more beers from Calgary—with a selection from DANDY BREWING COMPANY. We discuss a bit about the brewery before hitting the lineup. First is the T-Rex named (Dandy) in the Underworld oyster stout; second is the sweet by strong "The Julia" peach cobbler sour ale; we wrap with the refreshing HASTE PAYS lager. A couple of John's cans were damaged in transit and were a bit flat, so take his scores with a grain of salt! Along the way we also chatted about: Lane Smith illustrations; John's random encounter with the host of his favourite podcast; university Shakespeare class; Stop Making Sense; HVAC tips; and we end the episode with some extended NFL talk (mainly on the future at QB for the Steelers). We will return next with some more Unibroue beers!Timestamps:06:38 Beer#1 (DANDY IN THE UNDERWORLD)23:42 Beer#2 (THE JULIA)35:53 Beer#3 (HASTE PAYS)00:55:47 Wrap up, final scores, and conclusionCredits:https://thedandybrewingcompany.com/Vienna - Billy JoelIntro and closing song: "Drink Beer (Till the Day That I Die)" by Dazie Mae (www.daziemae.com)Artwork: IG @nartsattack (www.natalierivet.com)
The time has finally come: to kick off the new year, Tom and John finally dive into one of Canada's most storied craft producers: Chambly Quebec's own UNIBROUE. We sample 1/2 of the contents of a new variety pack. First we go over some history of the brewery before getting into the contents. To start, we sample the damn strong MAUDITE! Next up, we take things back to '67 and indulge in SAISON LIBRE. Lastly, we explore more Quebecois lore and try TROIS PISTOLES. A pretty chatty episode this time around, as we also discussed: the Montreal Canadiens; what's wrong with the NBA; defunct CHL teams; John's family lore; Generation Beta; the Quiet Revolution; and Skoal special blend. We will return soon with the second half of this box, likely following another seltzer ep. Stay tuned! In tribute to Quebec, Unibroue named this fantastic Tripel after the land encountered by 16th-century French explorers who thought they'd reached the end of the world. To date, it has won 55 medals and honors from top international competitions, including 13 platinum distinctions and 29 golds at prestigious events such as the Chicago Beverage Testing Institute's World Beer Championships and the World Beer Awards. La Fin du Monde is definitely a beer worth drinking!

Chris enjoys an outing in Nashville to see Jack White but has major issues with his data plan that is what allows him to live the nomadic lifestyle. Everybody wants some Hattie B's. Nick got to go to a couple of shows at the new Moody Amphitheater with his family and had a blast. Unfortunately, he also had to experience the heart-wrenching loss of his dog Lola. Are there too many venues with Moody in the title in Austin? John and his wife joined Vista Brewing's barrel club and have the honor of hosting a highly anticipated sleepover. The sleepover gets a little interesting around 3:45 AM. We discuss interesting beverages we've had recently including a brilliant barrel-aged farmhouse ale from Barrique Brewing and Blending, the Past, Present, and Future anniversary IPAs from Austin Beerworks, and a very pleasant saison from Vista Brewing. We talk about our musical guilty pleasures. Nick recounts a stormy childhood memory as he walks us down memory lane. Then he hits us with a dad joke. Finally, he presents the situation he just went through with his daughter finding out that words matter when telling her that they were putting the dog to sleep. The featured beer style this week is the Belgian Tripel and we taste the Canadian offering from Unibroue in La Fin du Monde. As always, thank you for listening.

Segment 1: NFL Playoffs – a legendary Divisional round. Giggity's got ups! 49ers – Packers. Missed opportunities and a Packers special teams debacle. The Internet gives Aaron Rodgers the business, fan blowback, and mistakes magnified. Deebo digs deep, Jimmy G's taters, and going for Gould. Regular season wins are nice, but playoff success defines your season. The Aaron Rodgers speculation train. Giggity dreams a dream of Bengals – 49ers III. Freaking Jacksonville, bro. What taunting? Segment 2 (59.48): NFL Playoffs. Divisional round, Part II. Meatloaf wouldn't foam that (RIP). Salud o'clock! Bengals – Titans. Ryan Tannehill goes Peter Shrinklage. Sack parties, Joe Cool nickname pause, Evan McPherson calls his shots. Rams – Bucs. The Son of Hochuli vs TB12. Titans BSE and the Jackson Mahomes Memorial Failhorn. The Rams get wacky, the personal foul dilemma, and a little bit (but not enough) of that TB12 magic. The Tom Brady retirement question. Enjoy the divisional round roller coaster. Chiefs – Bills insanity delivers a legendary game. Near perfect QB play, stacks of fun facts, and the Josh Allen cheat code. 13 seconds, Dak takes notes, and being the Grim Reaper. Haymaker parties, adjustment on the fly, and Chiefs chemistry. QB legacies and those elusive Super Bowl wins. The OT rules debate plus the arbitrary TD component (2.14.23). Calling our shots for the NFC and AFC Championship games – 49ers vs Rams and Bengals vs Chiefs. Dan Snyder and the ashes of the Redskins franchise. Wrap up, MLB Hall of Fame, and a Big Papi salud. Your boys are goin' roundhouse kick across the globe for Episode 9! We're talking Denver, Texas, Quebec and Malta? You're damn right. Some surprise beers lead the way to some somber, controversial news. But we blast beat the rhythm back into gear to provide a collection of tunes perfect for bleeding your eardrums dry. Last but not least, the featured band is bringing the heat to warm your cold soul. Turn it up, burn it down! Episode Breakdown: Catching up with the boys :48 What we’re drinking/beer news 4:50 Metal News 10:58 What we’re jamming this past week 20:29 Featured band 27:50 Featured Band: This week's episode features "Burn It Down" from Haine. Haine started off in late 2017 by Claudio (bass,) and the then original guitarist, who recruited Chris (vocals) and Konrad (drums). All members have quite a longstanding role in the Maltese local metal scene with other acts such as Abysmal Torment, ClubMurder, Repugnance and Fallen Icon and it was time for a Maltese band to venture into deathcore territory, which was quite lacking at that point. The “project” soon cemented itself as an up and coming band in the local metal scene and after the first the band had a line up-change in mid-2019 with James and Jack joining as permanent guitarists. The band immediately started working on the first debut self-titled EP, which has been recently released in January 2021. The aim of the band has always been to forgo all perceived notions and pre-existing scene stereotypes to create their own brand of extreme music and most importantly, to play some crushing breakdowns! Haine’s music is a reflection of such a great opportunity to take on diverse musical influences and merge them into a new sound. This has resulted in deeply layered sound combining heavy grooves and innovative breakdowns punctuated by melodic overtones. Despite Haine having deep-roots within the Deathcore approach to music writing, the aim has always been to come up with a new and fresh take on an ever-evolving style of music. Malta is the proud brew house for the “Cisk Lager”. Golden in colour, it is a bottom-fermented lager, with an alcohol content of 4.2%, with a bold and refreshing taste on the palate. It is well balanced, not too bitter but not dilute and can hold its own against many of the more well-known global brands. This is the pride and joy of all Maltese beer-lovers. The company recently delved into brewing craft beers also, such as the Blue Label Amber Ale, Double Red Strong Ale and unfortunately the discontinued Farsons India Pale Ale (IPA). As a band, we of course local Cisk Lager either during rehearsals, recording, live gigs, everywhere really. Claudio is the craft beer connoisseur and just loves his hoppy-beers such as The Crew (Hop Junkie), Wayward IPA, Black IPA Thawack and Hobgoblin IPA among an infinite array of other hoppy beers! Initially founded by business partners Andre Dion and Serge Racine in the 1990s, Unibroue still uses traditional brewing methods, making craft beers that are unlike any other. La Fin Du Monde has aromatic notes of a floral bougette, fresh baguettes, as well as tastes of grains, fruit, and spices. Join The Beer Connoisseur for our Livestream Happy Hour and weekly Podcast with today's featured brewer Jerry Vietz, Brewmaster of Unibroue in Chambly, Quebec, Canada. Journey through a guided tasting of some of the latest highly rated and rare beers made available to our Beer Buyers Club members. This unique event allows BC’s Beer Buyers Club members to taste and discuss these hard-to-find beers with fellow connoisseurs and engage in an in-depth Q&A with the brewers themselves. In this episode, Jerry discusses La Fin du Monde, a 9.0% ABV year-round Belgian Tripel that scored 91 out of 100 points in The Beer Connoisseur. The brewery says this of the beer: "Representative of a style that was originally developed by medieval monks who served beer on special occasions, it is a premium beer with a surprising finesse. Like Trappist triple ales, La Fin du Monde is brewed and refermented in the bottle—a first in the American market at the time of launch." When we think of beers from Canada, the first few that come to mind are ones that have been around for years like Labatts, Molson, and Moosehead. While we have never done a podcast on any of those, we must admit to back in the day enjoying cold refreshing Labatts Blue and Moosehead on more than one occasion. Another well known brewery based in Canada is Unibroue, which makes the La Fin du Monde (as well as many others) and also makes Trader Joe’s seasonal release Vintage Ale. We have done a podcast on that one and it is available in the archives at AboutBeverages.com. This is all relevant because for the first time in years we will be trying a beer from Canada and sharing it with you. The beverage we have for this episode is the Ta Meilleure from Lagabiere Brasserie Artisanale. This beer is a Northeast IPA and comes in at 7% ABV. What did we think? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

In this episode, we are supposed to be talking about "The Plumbing Song"... What we end up doing is a wild ride through flavor profiles, carbon monoxide detectors, and a brief battle with the French language. We do talk about "The Plumbing Song," we promise. We also talk about the book "The Weird Accordion to Al" by Nathan Rabin. (And if you like that song, we're sorry but we're also not sorry at all.) We did pick two really delicious beers to talk about, though. We may not love the song, but we love our beers today. We've got Liquid Truth Serum by Dogfish Head and La Fin Du Monde by Unibroue. Cheers!Music: https://www.purple-planet.com

RUN In this episode, we recap the Star Wars 10K that was part 1 of our First Order Challenge in Orlando at Walt Disney World. You can find out more about this Orlando and Walt Disney World race weekend on Run Disney's website. It was a nice and flat course that started through the streets around Magic Kingdom (not inside the park), then took us inside Hollywood Studios, along the water and the awesome scenery of the BoardWalk, and we finished running through a short portion of the World Showcase at Epcot. EAT At the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival, we had so many delicious offerings to choose from, and the Northern Lights (the Canadian area of the World Showcase). We headed there for dessert. Can you say warm maple pound cake with peach compote and sweet corn gelato? We can... DRINK Also in the area best known as Canada but currently known as the Northern Lights during the festival, we discovered that there were several tasty beverages that we needed to try. One was a Maple Popcorn Milkshake featuring Crown Royal Maple Whiskey. And of course there was a beer flight, but this one has a special place in our hearts because Unibroue beer helped us recover from Hurricane Irma in 2017. Here's what we got to sample: Unibroue Maudite Amber Ale Unibroue À Tout Le Monde Saison Unibroue Éphémère White Ale THAT'S A WRAP! Thank you for watching! Please subscribe and rate us on iTunes.
