Chris Bennett is the Nike Running Global Head Coach and Senior Director Nike Global Running. Translation: Chris is an absolute powerhouse of a coach and runner. I got to chat with Chris about his role at Nike, how runners approach the sport from a variety of angles, what often prevents us from achieving our goals, his message to every runner in the world if he had the opportunity to speak to the global running population, and so much more. In this episode, Chris and I talk about: The multifaceted nature of coaching (it's not just creating workouts). Don't overcomplicate running; it can be simple and accessible. How runners' motivations have shifted from performance-driven to stress relief and mental wellness. How all runners can explore the sport beyond just competition and time. The growth of running and its perception as a competitive sport. You need more than just time goals. Common obstacles to consistent and effective running training. Adjusting training plans based on the athlete's needs and self-awareness. Don't rely on a coach entirely; listen to your body and mind-- and speak up! Self-sabotaging by "doing" too much without enough recovery. Running with the legendary Joan Benoit Samson. Send this episode to anyone who could use more play and exploration in their running goals. My guest on the podcast this week is Hannah, a former one-on-one coaching client who recently earned a PR at the 2023 Boston Marathon. Hannah and I met a little over a year ago at a running retreat in Colorado and started working together shortly thereafter, with her focus almost exclusively on half marathons and marathons. Recently Hannah started to contemplate going after a 5k PR, but has had questions about making the transition from endurance training to 5k specific workouts. Our discussion today revolves around the best way to make that transition. Hannah is already doing a lot of things right in her training, but needs help learning how to reorient her focus and tweak her workouts. In our conversation, Hannah and I cover: Hannah's running history and recent training What her typical week looks like How 5k training can help her long term development as a runner Learning how to engage psychologically with more intense efforts How to “bridge the gap” from marathon to 5k training Using shorter races on the road or track to get out of your comfort zone Transitioning to 5k specific workouts No matter what your preferred racing distance may be, you're sure to gain some insight on how to plan your training from this episode. The joys of the annual financial reporting season are upon us. This is something that most of us in Comms get involved with at some point – whether that's setting up media calls, fretting over internal messages, or just working out which picture of the CFO to use. For many of us, financial reporting is the equivalent of the PR hamster wheel. You never really get off. Once the ink is dry on the analyst notes or the media commentators have passed judgement, you're on to the next cycle. It's all a bit breathless. We've talked about financial reporting before on our Podcasts. But as it's the season for many PRs – inhouse and agency – we thought we'd delve into the subject again. And this time we'd like to dig a little deeper into the cottage industry that brings together PR, Comms, Finance, Legal and Secretariat to work in perfect harmony – or not. Joining Matt Young on the reporting hamster wheel are fellow Apella Partners, Andrew Brown and Anthony Silverman. Please leave us a 5 star review if you enjoyed this episode or let us know what you think via social media or email podcast@apellaadvisors.com This edition of The Little Questions podcast is presented by Matt Young and guests Andrew Brown and Anthony Silverman. Apella partner Andrew Brown is a former Director of Communications and Public Affairs at Ageas Insurance. He has more than ten years' experience leading the corporate affairs functions for global firms across a range of regulated and unregulated sectors, developing considerable experience in issues, crisis and change management. Formerly Director of Communications at Drax Group plc and Group Corporate Affairs Director at Regus plc. Our second guest this time is Apella partner Anthony Silverman who specialises in advising global boards and executive teams with complex reputational needs. Recent clients include RBS, UBS, Atlas Merchant Capital, Nomura, Pension Insurance Corporation, FirstRand and Nando's. He is also a former Senior Managing Director at Teneo in London. Host, Matt Young is an Apella partner with 25 years of experience in corporate affairs. He was Corporate Affairs Director at Lloyds Banking Group, part of the senior team which rescued the bank and rebuilt its reputation following the financial crisis. Formerly communications director at Santander UK and board member of the BBA.

Spirit of 608: Fashion, Entrepreneurship, Sustainability + Tech
Are you unknowingly sabotaging your own PR and media efforts without even realizing it? Listen to this week's episode of the Spirit of 608 podcast to find out. During the August hiatus that we take every year to reorganize and improve what we're doing behind the scenes with PressDope and the clients I work with one-on-one, I spoke with so many FEST founders hoping to amp up media outreach and gain visibility during this year's super important Fall retail and shopping season. And wouldn't you know it, the very same challenges -- and self-sabotaging habits -- kept coming up again and again. After a month of talking to FEST founders and hearing the same things in conversation after conversation, I knew I needed to create an episode to help you stop doing the things that are going to hold you back, no matter how loud you shout when you've got news to share or how many journalists, bloggers and content producers you reach out to with your message. In this week's solo episode of the Spirit of 608 podcast, I'm knocking out the top client challenges that will sabotage your PR and visibility every single time so you stop doing them today and start getting the recognition you want. Do you have your own strategies for securing awesome PR with success? If so, I'd love to hear about them. DM me on Instagram and let me know @spiritof608. Folge direkt herunterladen

cutting your marketing budget in a bad economy is the last thing you should do. This is not the time to focus less on marketing … rather the opposite. The beauty of marketing in the 21st century is that many of the marketing channels available to you are cheap, easy and fast to execute. The cost of entry has never been lower (and I am not just talking email marketing), and there has never been more niche markets available. Telemarketing allows you to provide additional information and answer questions your customers may have. Some forms of marketing don't cost you a dime. You can create online buzz about your product through social media. Want to drum up great PR? Get to know the media. Of the many channels of marketing, public relations is one that every business should embrace. That's because it is nearly free. Rather than sending out 1,000 general press releases about a story that has general appeal, it's much more effective to send out a dozen or so targeted press releases containing stories that are exactly right for the intended audiences. It's simply quality vs. quantity. To find your joint venture "soul mate" think about the major players in your marketplace. Consider the strengths and weaknesses of each. People that should listen to this show are entrepreneurs,
In reality, cutting your marketing budget in a bad economy is the last thing you should do. This is not the time to focus less on marketing … rather the opposite. The beauty of marketing in the 21st century is that many of the marketing channels available to you are cheap, easy and fast to execute. The cost of entry has never been lower (and I am not just talking email marketing), there has never been more niche markets available and it has never been easier with today's technology to accurately measure the impact of your marketing efforts and make educated decisions about going forward to plan cohesive multi-channeled marketing campaigns. Smart companies that continue to grow and prosper during hard economic times understand the value of multi-channel marketing: Create strong customer relationships. Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of multi-channel marketing is that it provides great customer relationship building opportunities. Choose efforts that help you pick the low hanging fruit. Never forget to market most often and most strongly to those loyal customers who buy from you. Some forms of marketing don't cost you a dime. You can create online buzz about your product through social media. Want to drum up great PR? Get to know the media. Of the many channels of marketing, public relations is one that every business should embrace. Don't go it alone. Many small business balk at the idea of joint ventures. If you see a company, perhaps one of your competitors advertising often and in multiple channels - chances are it is a healthy company. Study that company, is there something they are doing that you can implement.
