So a good story makes a connection. You have to be genuine and from the heart with your story. You can connect with your audience's pain, values and desires. In that way they'll relate to you as well Stories have little effect if they don't relate to your characters. And just think back to any tv show you watched or book you read when you didn't really care whether the characters lived or died. Wasn't very compelling, was it? When we can relate to the characters in your story, it keeps you engaged. Choose characters your audience can identify with. The people who will make them say that guy or gals just like me or like someone I know whenever possible. Real customers and real employees. Welcome to The TufFish Show, a place for authors and creative business owners, like you, to have the support and connection, so you bring out your inner greatness so you get comfortable using your voice, sharing your message, and being visible. It might sound a little odd to have “gratitude” for a challenge, especially one that's requiring more from you than you thought possible. Yet, this is exactly why I wanted to do this short and sweet episode. The creative wall we can run into when we're facing that new level (or working through it) is challenging for a reason, but it's also something we can have gratitude for it by reframing what it is and why it's there. You've got the books, products, and business, and now it's time to move to your next level and confidently sharing them with those who need to hear from you the most. Today we're going to be talking about which story is most effective for your market. So, of course, it's all very well to say a tragedy plot or a mystery plot is very interesting and engaging, but it may not work for you in terms of telling your stories. So, which is most effective? If a story is not about the person that you're talking to, the hearer, he or she will not listen. A great, lasting story is about everyone, or it will not last. The “strange and familiar is not interesting, only the deeply personal and familiar”. So that's John Steinbeck, East of Eden. So, the first question you have to ask yourselves is probably figuring out who your target audience is and what are they worried about? What do they want to hear about? You've probably had some ideas swarming in your head about stories you can use for your brand. Go to http://jgtips.com/lets to get “7 ways to be visible” and other checklists and tips.

I've got a question for you: How much are you talking about your books and business? spoiler alert - it's probably not enough. When you think about stepping it up and talking more about you, your books, and your business, what comes up for you? If this feels scary, then let this short and sweet episode offer some insights to shift this so you become more comfortable sharing your message and work while detaching from the outcome. You've got the books, products, and business, and now it's time to move to your next level and confidently sharing them with those who need to hear from you the most. So, we've always told stories. We've always been around the fire and telling stories to each other. As soon as we started to speak and communicate, we were telling stories. So those stories from ancient times are often different from those today. They still have the same storylines. For the first human stories hatched tens of thousands of years ago to the TV program you watched the other night, these timeless storylines endure. So why are these storylines so enduring? Well, it's because they speak to fundamental emotions that all humans understand and experience. So, it's this theme all people face. Using these classic plots in your story planning can help you create something truly effective and emotional for your audience. So often we talk about achieving that next big thing for us, whatever that is. We talk about working up the nerve to get to that “big thing”, but what about when we're there? Does imposter syndrome creep up during the “big thing” such that you know you're at that next level, yet you start questioning if you should be? If this is resonating, then let this short and sweet episode offer some encouragement.
