Welcome to episode 207 with Hana Walker-Brown, a multi-award winning and critically acclaimed storyteller and sound artist who works across film, radio and podcasting and narrative non-fiction. In 2023 Hana was signed off work with severe burnout.  It took a year for her to understand this experience, to unpack it, to make peace with it and to get back to herself and in this episode, I chat to Hana about that process. This isn't a conversation about jobs and working too hard because all of that is just a mechanism for burnout.  This is a conversation about self-discovery, programming and learning to do things differently. In this episode, Hana and I chat about her experience of burnout, how it all came to a head, what recovery looks like for her and what that word even means. We chat about learning how to slow down, accepting the messier parts of ourselves and leaning in to the discomfort of rest. We also chat about the importance of sharing stories, how to really listen, building self-esteem and why it's important to have lots of hobbies. Hana has recently made a documentary for BBC Radio 4 called In Pieces, where she explores different aspects of burnout through her own experience, through the people around her and the experiences of others and we chat about what it was like to make and then to put out in to the world. Listen here: BBC Radio 4 - Illuminated, In Pieces This is a truly wonderful conversation and I've thought about it a lot since we recorded.  It's a beautiful chat and it felt like a special one to be a part of. Join Justin as he chats with actor, musician, and writer Beki Lantos about life as a child actor, Goosebumps, starting her career on Are You Afraid of the Dark, songwriting, performing live, and more!Beki Lantos bio:“Since her birth in Ottawa, Ontario, Beki Lantos has loved to perform. At a young age, her career in the arts quickly progressed from singing with the family on Sundays to regular performing events across the city. She began performing locally at the tender age of nine in television and theater. At the age of ten she won a singing competition on Ottawa CTV's "Homegrown Cafe". At eleven, she released her first album entitled 'Here I Am' and then landed the lead role of Annie in the Company Musical Theater production of the same name.At thirteen, she and her family formed the band "Tangleroot" for which Beki was a lead singer, bassist and songwriter. The band played together for six years, releasing two albums; "Tangleroot" and "In Pieces". She never lost her love and passion for television and film though, as she completed writing her first feature film screenplay at the age of fourteen. The band split when Beki was 19, and within the next year she started her family. Her first addition was her son, Austin Henderson (2002). Shortly thereafter came her husband, Adam Lantos and their daughter Emelyn Lantos (2004).Beki's kids are almost grown now, and her love for the arts and performing never left her. She rarely acts anymore but can still be found singing and performing in venues in and round the Lower Mainland of BC. She's also continued her passion for writing and hopes to get one of her films made some day.She portrayed Margaret Brewer in Goosebumps episodes "Stay Out of the Basement" and Kareen Hawlings in "How I Got My Shrunken Head".Intro and outro theme created by Wyrm. When they were just thirteen and eleven years old, sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey started posting videos of themselves singing on YouTube and quickly built a following. Their covers often went viral—their version of Beyoncé's “Pretty Hurts” even caught the attention of Beyoncé, who brought them on tour as her opening act.  Now, with two albums and five Grammy nominations behind them, the sisters are for the first time working on separate projects: Halle is starring as Ariel in an upcoming remake of “The Little Mermaid,” and Chloe is releasing a solo album, “In Pieces,” later this month. Chloe Bailey spoke with the contributing writer Lauren Michele Jackson at the New Yorker Festival in October about the mixed blessing of social-media stardom. “When we program our minds to think about being No. 1 … it really suffocates you and it stifles the process,” she says. “Right now, I'm just creating to be creating, and I have never felt more free.”  Plus, the lost New Jersey photographs of Henri Cartier-Bresson.
