Our story begins with Tsar Peter III of Russia being overthrown by his own wife, the infamous Catherine the Great, only to be declared deceased soon after for vague medical reasons. Years later, Yemelyan Pugachev, a peasant who claimed to be the late Peter III, emerges. Pugachev's Rebellion, also known as the Cossack Rebellion, gained support from various social groups, including peasants and some nobles who opposed Catherine's rule. Their goal was to dethrone her and reinstate "Peter III," despite the fact that their "Peter" was just an imposter, probably with bad teeth. Whether his supporters didn't care that he was a fraud or simply were oblivious to the truth, Pugachev managed to disrupt Russia with his attempts to seize the throne and champion the peasants and serfs who have suffered under Catherine's reign. However, evading arrest can only be accomplished so many times.Support the show
In today's episode, we conclude our discussion of the comic series The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones with Issue 27, Trial of the Golden Guns. In this comic, Indy barely evades a punishing death from four horses after getting trapped by Pugachev. Once he is rescued by Beth, they travel with Peter to Count Salkovich's estate to execute an ambush and sneak inside. After Indy triumphantly wins his duel with Count Salkovich, Beth makes an unexpected decision that subsequently grants her ownership of the golden guns. Opening music excerpt was composed by John Williams and is titled "Fast Streets of Shanghai"
--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/malhete-podcast/message

This episode we look at the death blows to Tartaria and its eventual literal erasure from history, Romanov role in the elimination/cover-up, Emperor Peter III/Catherine The Great and their roles. Why is there so much mystery around Tartaria and why has it become the catch phrase for anything unexplainable from previous generations of humans? Why are there CIA documents from the 1950s talking about how Tartar history was rewritten. Does it tie to Tartarus; the deep abyss that is used as a dungeon of torment and suffering for the wicked and as the prison for the Titans? In this episode we look at early Russian history, from the founding of the Viking state Kievan Rus to the rule of Nicholas I in the 1800's. We specifically discuss the foundation of Russian state ideology in the 1830's and 1840's. We look at influences like Westernization, but also at the cemented institutions of orthodoxy, autocracy and serfdom. The Pugachev and Decembrist Rebellions are put into context. Well, dear listeners, you are reading that monstrous amalgamation of letters correctly. We have another Russian for you today. This dude loved being a crazy person and fighting against Catherine the Great's armies, but he was only good at one of them. He killed a lot of people over his life, and his ineptitude caused even more people to die. But ultimately there are no good or bad guys in this story, so feel free to laugh at all of their awfulness!

This week we are talking about Pugachev's Rebellion, the largest peasant revolt in Russian history. Vicki tells Helena about Pugachev's impersonation of the deceased Peter III and how this Cossack posed a significant threat to the reign of Catherine the Great. Please forgive the fact that Helena was feeling rather under the weather when we recorded!
In this episode, James and Aaron discover that anything is possible, as long as you're not a millennial!
The Pugachev Rebellion reached incredible heights of violence only to be crushed, with Pugachev betrayed by his own men.
The Pugachev Rebellion was the largest of its kind in Russia until the revolutions of 1905 and 1917.
