As we continue to evolve the MicroConf On Air Podcast, we have decided to move into a more open call for questions from the audience rather than a straightforward interview format. Host Rob Walling is joined today by Matt Wensing, the founder of Summit (http://usesummit.com) and RiskPulse, which was recently sold. In this episodes, we cover the following questions: - When is Matt are you going to start hiring a team for Summit? When does he anticipate he will hit a growth stage within the company? -My product is a social intranet software sort of like microsoft teams/facebook combined, so we deal with B2B. A lot of my competitors make it very difficult for their customers to sign up, do not give free trials or freemium, you have to fill out a form for a demo or to get signed up. Is there some sort of hidden advantage to being difficult to get started with? Is there an advantage to weeding people out or what exactly is the goal here? -How do you think non-American startups should forecast currency fluctuations if most customers are in the US paying in dollars? -What does Summit do? Software businesses contain an incredible number of moving parts and variables. How can we isolate and study them? For most of us, it's a combination of trial and error and learning from others' mistakes when they're brave enough to share them. Matt has spent the last 10 years starting and running his own software company (Riskpulse), learning many hard lessons along the way. Today, I'm talking with , the founder of —a financial planning SaaS startup. Prior to Summit, Matt founded , a predictive intelligence tool for the whole supply chain. Matt was on the podcast about a year ago when he was first launching Summit, then called SimSaaS, and we talked about alternative financing options for startups. Since then, Matt sold RiskPulse to DHL, joined the first batch, and launched the podcast with Peter Suhm. In our chat today, we talk about the value of forecasting and how to do it right (regardless of the stage of your business) and we also dig into navigating product decisions and how to know if what a customer is asking for is really what they want. Even though Matt and I serve completely different markets, our core products have a lot of similarities so this was a fun chat for me and I think you'll get a lot out of it as well.

Guest: Jon Davis, Chief Meteorologist at RiskPulseDescription: More than 20% of the US Economy is directly affected by the Weather. The energy and agriculture sectors are particularly vulnerable to losses that can mount as a result of heat waves, droughts, flooding and cold. Just a couple of degrees can make or cost companies millions of dollars. There is a group of meteorologists who make it their jobs to connect the weather to these lucrative markets and their forecasts can ultimately give their clients that competitive edge. Today we’ll talk with Jon Davis, Chief Meteorologist at RiskPulse, about the fascinating world of weather forecasting for the commodity markets.
Guest: Stephen Bennett, Founder and Chief Operating Officer at Riskpulse Your package is shipped, but it is still 3 days out...3 days of traversing through weather to get to you. Will storms cause a delay? Does the product need refrigeration? Can the product be left out in the cold? What if the answers to these questions started before the order went out for shipping? Taking the weather forecast into account - charting and changing the way your package gets delivered...it could mean big savings for you and companies. Well...this technology exists and Stephen Bennett, Founder and Chief Operating Officer for Riskpulse if here to tell us all about it.
Today, I'm talking with Matt Wensing, the Founder and Chief Strategist at Riskpulse, a supply chain risk analytics company that helps its clients and their partners increase the predictability and stability of their financial and physical operations globally. His most recent project is SimSaaS, a growth forecasting tool for startups and investors. Throughout all my research on alternative funding models, I kept running into these incredibly thorough Medium posts and every single one was written by Matt. When I decided to dive into the topic more on this show, I knew that I had to get him on. In our chat, we dive into his 12-year journey building Riskpulse, how the idea for SimSaaS came about, and how it helps bring an objective lens to the discussion of startup financing. Matt's passion for not just the topic but also for teaching and helping startups in general clearly shows in this interview and if you're looking for an unbiased take on how to evaluate the different options out there, then this is it.
JP and Chad sit down with Eric Adamchick, Meteorologist and Weather Analyst for RiskPulse, for a quick conversation about Hurricane Florence. This episode of What The Truck?!? was recorded live at Trimble’s in.sight 2018 conference and is sponsored by Trimble.
Today on Engage with Andy Busch, we bring on a weather expert to discuss how Hurricane Patricia formed, the strength of this year's El Nino, and what type of winter weather were likely to have. Jon Davis is the meteorology team lead for Riskpulse and explains how weather will impact the energy markets this season.
