Ep. 122 Guns N Roses - Appetite For Destruction - Review & Reaction! When Appetite for Destruction dropped in 1987, it didn't exactly fly off the shelves...... At first. Released on July 21, 1987, "Appetite" didn't enter the top 50 on the Billboard album charts until Jan 16, 1988. Shortly after this, it exploded like a Molotov cocktail into a music scene that had grown too comfortable with glam metal's glossy sheen. Guns N' Roses—raw, dangerous, and oozing attitude—brought back the grit and grime of rock ‘n' roll. This debut wasn't just an album; it was a statement. With Axl Rose's snarling vocals, Slash's bluesy, melodic solos, and a rhythm section that swung like a wrecking ball, Appetite redefined hard rock for a generation. Appetite for Destruction went on to become the best-selling debut album of all time in the U.S. It influenced countless bands in the late '80s and '90s, from grunge (which appreciated GNR's authenticity over glam's gloss) to hard rock and even punk revival scenes. The band's mix of punk energy, bluesy riffing, and metal aggression helped bridge the gap between classic rock and modern hard rock, keeping the genre alive during a time when synth-pop and polished hair metal were dominating.

In July of 1987 Guns N Roses released their debut studio album. Sales wise, the album floundered for the first year, selling only two hundred thousand units and battling Aerosmith's return and hit makers, Def Leppard; it took the lobbying efforts of Geffen to convinces MTV to play the video for Welcome to The Jungle once a night for three nights, becoming the most viewer requested video of the time, and finally launching this rock n roll juggernaut to the top of the Billboard charts by August 1987. Lets talk Guns N Roses, Appetite for Destruction!
En una edición especial de Discografía Sonar en vivo, Alfredo Lewin y Fernando Mujica repasaron el disco de 1987, año en que el rock norteamericano la estaba rompiendo.

Explicit!! That's all we can say to begin our description of this one. Neither of us have heard this one through in a while, and man, is does it feel raw, in your face, aggressive, but a lot of fun. We got into the back stories of the album that we weren't aware of until reading some of the song facts. We'd like to think it's deeper than what's on the surface, but that's wishful thinking. Let's not apologize for how shallow the subject matter is because maybe it's better to embrace it than turn up our noses to it. Chris goes falsetto and Tim goes more barritone, but there is a good amount of singing...we couldn't help it as our inner Axl comes to fore.Slash RIPS and will always continue to be an enigmatic character for the ages. Enjoy!!Support the show

Sure you've heard "Instruments of Destruction" on the podcast (Transformers: the Movie Soundtrack episode, track 2) but what about "Appetite for Destruction"??? Taking all the raw, unused energy left of 80s hair metal, Guns N' Roses did exactly that. They were the harbingers of the death of one era of rock music into another. They didn't know they would be one of the last hurrahs of hair metal, but they made it their only purpose to be the best. And they didn't need costumes or a gimmick to do it. Besides that giant hat that Slash wears... Joining us tonight on the podcast are Ashley Coffin and Matthew Fox from the Stranded Panda podcast network! Guns N Roses became the biggest, most dangerous band in the world thanks to raw guitar power & raunchy lyrics. Their debut, Appetite for Destruction, set them on the path to superstardom but it didn't catch fire out of the gate. It was a bit of a slow burn & needed a kickstart from MTV. But once the world heard Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child O Mine & Paradise City they skyrocketed up the charts only to have one of the most spectacular burnouts in rock history. Chris from My Rock n Roll Heaven joins us to discuss this classic.

Another episode, another classic album. But..... is it though? Key talking points - More cowbells than a Scottish beef farm, a very close call with some awful lyrics, loads of awful lyrics anyway, an X-rated recording session (the band, not us!), Rich denounces a favourite and Kyle throws all the rules out the window.
