TMV: Episode 47 - Healthy Financial Habits - Part 2 Welcome back to The Scalici episode, part two! Continuing with the theme from part one, we talk to Steve and Apryl Scalici, the unofficial Family Church financial advisors, about investments, getting out of debt, and how you can start giving. We dive into how giving financially is the one way the Lord encourages us to challenge Him, and how you can find a middle ground with your partner regarding how much to give. We discuss the pitfalls of credit cards and investments, and the advice you should be giving your kids. Raising fiscally responsible children boils down to three things: being transparent with how you spend your money, teaching delayed gratification, and learning from your mistakes. Steve also breaks down common misconceptions around how long it takes to get out of debt (only seven years!), and why you should never invest in something that you don't understand. Tune in to hear all this and more, in today's financial masterclass. Key Points From This Episode: Welcome back to The Scalici episode part two, where we talk to Apryl and Steve Scalici about all things finance. God's commandment of being a cheerful giver: the verses addressing living abundantly. How investing financially links to emotional investment. The six keys of The Treasure Principle and the two that stuck with Steve. How prayer helped Steve and Apryl to pick an amount to give. Negotiating a compromise with your partner when your spiritual gifts differ: the importance of setting financial boundaries. Applying “Godliness with contentment is great gain” to finances: getting to the point of contentment begets you being generous. Seeing the fruits of giving and how it makes it easier to do it. The pitfalls of credit cards and investments: being wise about spending. The three things you can do with money: give it, save it, spend it, and why giving is the most enjoyable. When to talk to a financial advisor about saving. Steve's opinion on cryptocurrency: don't invest in something that you don't understand. Advice for starting to invest for kids and adults: invest in things you know. How you can survive on a single income. When to look for another job: earning too little to save. Implementing financial literacy in the home: be transparent with how you spend your money, teach delayed gratification, and learn from your mistakes. The software and apps that Apryl uses to track their spending. How to pay off debt quickly: putting your ducks in a row. TMV: Episode 46 – Healthy Financial Habits – Part 1 The secret to financial success is simple: give 10, save 10, and live on the rest. With simple solutions like this, it's easy to see why Steve and Apryl Scalici are the resident Family Church financial advisors! Join us today as we talk to this power couple about all things finance: from how to teach your kids healthy financial habits, to when you should start saving, to why it's okay to work past your retirement. We find out why Steve, as the financial advisor, is not the one looking after the books in the Scalici family, and how Apryl's upbringing gave her a financial head start over Steve. Although he stands by the “give 10, save 10” rule, Steve does tailor his advice based on the stage of life you are at, so tune in to find out what the differences are for single mothers, couples at the start of their marriage, and couples entering into retirement. Press play to listen to part one now! Key Points From This Episode: Who the Scalici family are: bi-vocational pastor Steve, and creative & events director and spreadsheet guru Apryl. How Steve was inspired by Family Ties to become a financial advisor. Why Apryl handles the finances in the Scalici home and Steve's role in investments. How you bring into your marriage what you experienced: using your gifts to get the most out of the situation financially. Advice for families in the early stages of their marriage: preparing for a family. Why Apryl chose to give their kids an allowance rather than paying for chores. The responsibilities and privilege that come with getting an allowance as a kid. Advice for couples later on in their marriage: live on one income, and save the other. The Scalici's golden rule for any stage of life: give 10, save 10, live on the rest. Why trusting God helps with saving money: thinking about others and not the self. How defining boundaries allows you to live within and below your means. How Apryl's upbringing helped Steve pay off his debt. Why it's important to understand what a credit card means. Advice for people retiring: pay off all your debt before retirement. Three simple tips for single moms: start saving now (any amount), plan to work past your retirement, and treat your kids well as they pick your retirement home! "[Giving] frees you up to not worry about money... I pay attention to the dollars and I am aware, but it's just not a big concern or worry." "I don't care if I close an account or not, and there's just so much peace in that." "Give, save, and live on the rest." "Sometimes, your heart goes somewhere, and then your treasure follows." I have no place to store my crops.' 18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I'll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”' 20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?' 21 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God." Matthew 6:19-24 | Lay Up Treasure in Heaven 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Proverbs 21:20 | The Wise Store Up 20 The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down. Acts 20:35 | More Blessed to Give than to Receive 35 In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” Matthew 6:34 | Don't Worry About Tomorrow 34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. In this episode, my husband and I talk about weight loss support and accountability gone wrong. Everything we share is from our own personal experience. This is a seriously good conversation that you don’t want to miss. Especially if you’ve ever asked someone else to eat healthy with you. Or if you’ve ever asked someone else to exercise with you. Or if you’ve got a support person or support system or an accountability partner that isn’t really working out for you. They’re not really helping you reach your goal weight. By the end of this conversation, you’ll understand where support and accountability can go wrong. You’ll see things from different perspectives. And you’ll have a clear idea how to bring your ideal lifestyle to life without relying on anyone else but yourself.Get full show notes and more information here: https://www.mcccoaching.com/blog/podcast-18

This is a special edition of The Cancering Show. Dr. Jennifer Young Pierce and guest Dr. Jennifer Scalici discuss some of the most critical and unique information concerning the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and how it relates explicitly to cancer patients and their cancer treatment. The pandemic is a serious health situation, especially for anyone with any pre-existing medical conditions, including patients currently diagnosed with cancer and undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy. While this is an anxious time for the medical profession and patients, knowing the vital information, following the prescribed hygiene guidelines, maintaining social distancing and being vigilant about our overall health, will help us get through this time together. Stay healthy, be kind to others and stay strong. Key Takeaways > Consult your physician about any upcoming cancer treatments, surgeries and routine appointments. > MCI wants to reduce COVID-19 exposure for cancer patients when the urgency of a surgical procedure is not imperative. > Overall outcomes and survival rates depend on maintaining and finishing your cancer treatments. > If you are having COVID-19 symptoms, our recommendation is to stay home, stay indoors, self-quarantine and call your doctor for further instructions. > If you are feeling well and your treatments are going well, consult your physician and consider rescheduling your appointments one to three months out. > MCI patients can come to the Mitchell Cancer Institute safely and expect that they will not encounter any symptomatic employees or patients in our facilities. The Docs Said: MCI buildings are secure and symptom-free. A patient can come to the cancer center safely and expect that they will not encounter any symptomatic employees or patients at the cancer center. - Dr. JYP We have a visitor policy, one visitor per patient; those visitors are also screened in person at the door. It's an effort to protect both our patients and our staff. - Dr. Scalici If you are having symptoms, the recommendation is to stay home, stay indoors, self-quarantine and call your doctor for further instructions because most instructions after that will depend on your health and medical history. - Dr. Scalici There are some cases where we don't have the option to postpone surgery. If so, we're going to continue at that point to do those time-sensitive surgeries in more urgent cases. - Dr. Scalici It becomes tough to start new immunotherapy in the face of a potential pandemic like COVID-19. - Dr. Scalici Once you start radiation treatment, you want to finish radiation. Overall outcomes and survivals really depend on that. - Dr. Scalici There are no plans to halt radiation, so from start to finish, we want to stay within the prescribed period because people do better. - Dr. Scalici I think it's very reasonable for patients to stay home and socially distance themselves. We're asking those patients to stay home and can keep in close contact with us to let us know how they're doing. - Dr. JYP We know that if you've had any medical problems before, the COVID-19 risk is probably a little bit higher. This risk is not truly specific to cancer. - Dr. Scalici Grandparents, maybe it's time to visit the grandkids via Facetime. - Dr. Scalici Limit your exposure to others, and if you have to be out, maintain a six-foot space away from other people. - Dr. JYP Take advantage of the technology to connect with your friends and family, but please take the social distancing guidelines and warnings seriously. - Dr. Scalici Never Miss an Episode Please subscribe to the Cancering Show. Angelo Scalici's career began as an open format DJ in 2005, performing in various night clubs through-out the Tri-State Area, originating from New York City. Scalici's interest for music was realized with his production of “mashups” and remixes that were made available via niche sites. Little did he know his interest for “House” music, would lead him in becoming what he is today. Attending various nightclubsand venues inspired Angelo in applying certain concepts to his style. With performances in venues suchas “Pacha” in New York City and “The Lady Silvia” in Las Vegas, it is no question that his passion depends on “Big Room” sounds including sub-genres known as Deep, Tech & Soulful House.Producing was always a “hobby” in Scalici's world until he released his first official original recording in 2010 under Flava Music Records. “La Mosca” became a hit single which would lead to the syndication ofScalici's career, placing his recordings under various sites such as Beatport, Trackitdown, iTunes, & many more. Since his first hit, he has recorded several other tracks along with his personal favorite “Rock This Drum” which was released in 2012 for Miami Music Week, also featured during the Winter MusicConference and heard in various countries such as the U.S., Italy and Spain. His work has also been featured on various Artist Charts, Record Pools & radio stations.Mentioned earlier was Angelo's affiliation under Flava Music Records, in which he places a distinctive rank throughout it's Beatport Label Chart, hitting at #1. Along with that, he has released records under High Sound Music Label located in Italy/Germany. In September 2012, Scalici founded ProModeRecords. Currently he is working on it's first release that will be called the “Damsalon EP”, containing both an “Original Ibiza Sunset” & “Miami Rave” mix.
