Welcome to Owosso, Michigan, "Home of the Shocker!" Originally inhabited by the Chippewa, the first Europeans moved to the area in 1819. The town was incorporated in 1859 and named after a Chippewa chief named Wasso. The town is located in central Michigan about 90 miles from Detroit and is the largest town in Shiawassee County. The town's motto, "Home of the Shocker," could only be found on the town's Wikipedia page and offers no explanation. It is unlikely to be a reference to the hand gesture or the town's official motto. The Wikipedia entry is more likely to be the work of a Wikipedia vandal. Perhaps the fake motto is a tip of the hat to the Mel Schacher who was born in Owosso. Schacher is the bassist for Grand Funk Railroad, an American rock band from the late 60s and 70s. The town has been the home of a number of other notable people including failed Presidential candidate Thomas Dewey, jazz keyboardist Scott Kinsey, psychologist Leann Birch, and author James Oliver Curwood. We hope you enjoy our trip to Owosso!

It’s been a few years since Jimmy Haslip has been a guest on Inside MusiCast, but we had to have him back. Since his departure from the Yellowjackets in 2012, Jimmy has been extremely busy and has had a hand in dozens of projects that keep his calendar full year after year. 2018 has been no different and has yielded some amazing projects, such as a second Arc Trio record that features Scott Kinsey and Gergo Borlai, as well as a collaboration with Otmaro Ruiz and Jimmy Branly on a record project called “Elemental”. Add a few months of touring, session work, and producing and his calendar is bursting at the seams. Hear to fill us in on his musical journey is none other than Jimmy Haslip.

Hadrien Feraud is undoubtedly one of the pioneers of modern electric bass. Having played with the likes of John McLaughlin, Chick Corea and Hiromi, Hadrien is also an established artist in his own right having released 2 albums to critical acclaim. I managed to catch up with him backstage at Melbourne's Bird's Basement jazz club while he was in town with the Zawinul Legacy featuring Scott Kinsey and Kirk Covington from fusion legends Tribal Tech. In this interview we chat about Hadriens musical journey, his love for Jaco, soul and rnb and also what he thinks about the impact of social media on the modern musician.
