Sir Malcolm Walker is the chairman and co-founder of the frozen food supermarket chain Iceland. He was brought up in Grange Moor, West Yorkshire. He was just 14 when his father died, and he helped his mother run a smallholding, driving a tractor and ploughing fields. His business instinct kicked in during his teenage years, when he promoted Saturday night dances by booking bands into local church halls. After receiving rejections from Marks & Spencer and Littlewoods, he became a trainee manager at Woolworths, and recalls that he started at the very bottom, sweeping the floors for many months before gradually winning promotions and moving round the country. In 1970, he and Peter Hinchcliffe, a colleague from Woolworths, opened a shop in Oswestry, selling loose frozen food from chest freezers. The business soon began to take off, Malcolm and Peter were both fired by Woolworths, and Malcolm went on to build a company which now has more than 1000 stores in the UK and Ireland. Along the way, boardroom battles led to his departure in the early 2000s, but he later returned and Iceland is now back in family ownership. Alongside his business pursuits, Malcolm has been a fundraiser for dementia charities, after his wife was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's. She died in 2021 after more than 50 years of marriage. He was knighted in 2017, has three children, one of whom also works in the family business, and he married for the second time in August last year. Sir Malcolm Rifkind, interviewed at the Aspen Ministers Forum in Kansas City, sees the challenges to liberal values as tied to, but separate from, the challenges to democracy. He explains how many places where democracy is said to be in crisis today are actually experiencing a shift away from liberal ideas rather than from democracy itself. In a conversation that touches upon Brexit, the Cold War, and China’s rise, Sir Malcolm frames the challenge to liberal democracy today as a battle between “rule of law” and “rule by law.”

Sir Malcolm is also an author, lecturer and critic and his latest book has just been published. It is called To The Fairest Cape – European Encounters in the Cape Of Good Hope. The book covers the period from Van Riebeeck’s momentous importation of slaves to the official abolition of slavery in the 1830s.

Sir Malcolm Rifkind is a major figure in UK defence and security, having served as defence secretary, foreign secretary and most recently as chair of the Parliamentary Intelligence and Security Committee. Sir Malcolm talks to Karin about his career under Margaret Thatcher and John Major.  

Final Temporada 3 Capitulo 9 Sinopsis: Drácula le revela a Vanessa que Ethan es profetizado como su única amenaza. El Dr. Seward descubre en Renfield la ubicación de la guarida de Drácula. Lily deja a Dorian. El hijo de la Criatura muere y su esposa lo insta a llevar al niño a Víctor para que pueda ser resucitado. Frankenstein y Jekyll prueban su suero modificado en su sujeto con resultados milagrosos. Hécate alienta a Ethan a abrazar su lado oscuro; también revelan secretos el uno al otro, acercándolos. Con el acuerdo de Ethan, ella convoca serpientes de cascabel para matar a los guardaparques; Rusk y Ostow sobreviven aunque Kaetenay es mordido. The Rt Hon Sir Malcolm Rifkind KCMG QC MP, Conservative Member of Parliament for Kensington and Chelsea, outlined his party’s policy of defence in advance of the General Election and subsequent Strategic Defence Review. Sir Malcolm Rifkind was elected as MP for Pentlands in 1974 and represented that constituency until 1997. He became a member of the Cabinet in 1986 as Secretary of State for Scotland. In 1990 he became Secretary of State for Transport and in 1992 Secretary of State for Defence. From 1995 to 1997 he was Foreign Secretary. He served as the Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and Welfare Reform until December 2005 when he chose to return to the backbenches. He has been selected to fight the new Kensington constituency at the next General Election.He has also been active in a number of voluntary organisations. Sir Malcolm is a member of the Dulverton Trust, a Vice President of Combat Stress and a Patron of Raleigh International. He has served on the Court of Edinburgh University and is an honorary colonel. He is also a member of the Queen's Bodyguard of the Royal Company of Archers.
