On December 22, 2009 McKinney “Stiles” Robinson was born with Down Syndrome. She lives in a quaint coastal town in South Georgia, St Simons Island. The idea of Love Up was planted in her mom's heart years ago as she desired to have a family business where Stiles could play an active role. To know Stiles is to feel LOVE on a level that lifts you UP and their desire was to share that LOVE with others. Stiles started the brand design by drawing a heart with an up arrow on a piece of paper to look like the heart had 47 stitches to symbolize her 47 chromosomes. Today the brand consists of sweatshirts, tee shirts, socks and more. Learn more and shop at https://shoploveupwithstiles.com/
We have a problem with the Bible. More and more followers of Jesus in the west don't read it, don't now how to read it, don't even like it, and frankly, take issue with it. So why do we follow the Bible? In this episode, John Mark looks at how Jesus talked about the Bible, arguing that we believe in the Bible because of Jesus's authority, not the other way around.Key Scripture Passages: Matthew 5v17-19; Mark 12v35-36; Mark 12v18-27; Matthew 28v16-18.This podcast and its episodes are paid for by The Circle, our community of monthly givers. The title of this episode, Gone Fishin' kinda says it all … but let me give you a little more background info. A couple months ago, I went fishing for catfish with Chef Timothy Lensch of Georgia Sea Grill and Eric Miller who manages Satilla Ponds. If you've been following Southern Soil for a while, you're probably somewhat familiar with Georgia Sea Grill on St Simons Island, owned by Zack Gowen. Zack along with his team has a visionary approach to local food. It's sort of a little bit like vertical integration but each part is also set up to be it's own somewhat independent business - including a produce farm, Potlikker Farms and a catfish farm, Satilla Ponds. While both were established to feed into the restaurant, they also have the potential and the intention to provide quality local ingredients to the local food markets as well. So, sit back and relax or grab a rod and reel and join me as I go fishing and talk about the business of raising, harvesting and cooking up some local, organically fed catfish. There’s a small island off the state of Georgia called St. Simons, full of salt marshes and sandy beaches, and on that island is Southern Soul BBQ, named three years in a row as Reader’s Choice Best Barbecue for Southern Living. You might never get there for a visit, and although that would be a shame, it doesn’t mean that the food won’t come to you at some point. While pitmaster Harrison Sapp tends to the smokehouse on the island, Griffin Bufkin and Mark Hanna hit the Southern food festival circuit as the “Stew Crew,” stirring up big pots of Brunswick Stew and a rollicking good time in many a city, so I caught up with them recently at Charleston Wine + Food to learn all things about this iconic Southern stew from a couple of men who have perfected a recipe for it. Whether or not you decide to stir the pot, listen in for some South Georgia fun.

One of the most pleasurable reasons to visit St. Simons Island, Georgia is Cap Fendig, affectionately known to all who live there, and if you don't meet Cap you haven't been to St. Simons! Cap joins host Robin Milling at the King & Prince hotel greeting visitors with a clang of the Lighthouse Trolley bell. The Trolley Ghost Tour is a treat through the eerie night. Cap shuts the trolley lights, making his way with boyhood sense memory down St. Simons Park amongst 600 year-old majestic oak trees whose hanging Spanish moss gives you the willies. His tours take you through the nooks and crannies only someone with family generations dating back to the mid 1800s living on the Island would know. There's even Fendig Road named for Cap's family who came from Germany, fell in love with St. Simons and all it's glory and never left. Captain Larry Credle and his son Cliff hosted Let's Do Lunch! on The Lady Jane, a family vessel named after Credle's mom and Cliff's grandmother. All kinds of exotic sea creatures were caught up in the net; some were thrown back such as sea turtles and stingrays, horseshoe crab, and puffer fish. But the shrimps met their fate with Cliff's quick twist, offing the head; a trick he mastered when he was 9. Host Robin Milling chats with Captain Larry and Cliff, while tasting the freshest shrimp caught right from the waters of St. Simons Island. For more information visit www.shrimpcruise.com.
