Fotografie Neu Denken.

Welcome back, Elisabeth! This time I am very excited to be speaking to Artist, Elisabeth Condon, about one of my favorite Chicago Imagists: Christina Ramberg. The Art Institute of Chicago recently mounted a retrospective of Ramberg's work and Elisabeth travelled to see the show this past summer. She spent time telling me about her favorite works, but also offered insight into Ramberg's personality and teaching style - as Elisabeth was her student in graduate school at SAIC in the late 80's. Ramberg is known for her small but tightly-wound acrylic paintings of disembodied women: truncated torsos, legless high heels shoes, floating suits, and body-less corsets, but also produced quilts and a series of satellite paintings shortly before she died at 49 of Pick's disease. The Myths Of Digital Marketing Debunked In the rapidly evolving world of digital landscapes, misconceptions abound, leading many to second-guess the value of digital marketing for their business. The Marketing MadMen, led by industry experts Jeff Mironoff and Christopher Williams, are here to set the record straight, debunking the most common myths that could be holding you back from harnessing the full potential of digital marketing. Myth 1: Digital Marketing is Only for Large Businesses Reality: Digital marketing levels the playing field, offering scalable and affordable solutions for businesses of all sizes. From local startups to global enterprises, digital strategies can be tailored to meet specific goals and budgets. Myth 2: Digital Marketing is Not Cost-Effective Reality: When executed correctly, digital marketing offers one of the highest ROIs across marketing channels. It allows for precise targeting and analytics, ensuring every dollar spent is accounted for and optimized. Myth 3: Content Marketing is Limited to Blogging Reality: Content marketing spans beyond blogging to include videos, podcasts, infographics, and social media content. This diversity allows businesses to engage with their audience in various formats, catering to different preferences and stages of the customer journey. Myth 4: Digital Marketing is Purely Technical Reality: While digital marketing involves a fair share of technical know-how, its core is deeply rooted in understanding and engaging with human behaviors and preferences. Creativity and strategy play just as crucial a role as technical skills. Myth 5: Good Digital Marketing Delivers Quick Results Reality: Effective digital marketing is a marathon, not a sprint. Building a strong online presence, earning customer trust, and achieving sustainable growth require time, consistency, and ongoing optimization.   Digital Myths Debunked: Takeaway In their approach, The Marketing MadMen discuss the synergistic potential of Radio Advertising, Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising, and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) in enhancing digital marketing strategies: Radio Advertising: They explore how the extensive reach of radio can boost brand awareness and foster digital engagement, bridging the gap between offline and online audiences without overtly selling services. PPC Advertising: The conversation includes the strategic use of targeted PPC campaigns to achieve immediate online visibility, complementing long-term SEO strategies and driving targeted traffic for potential conversions. SEO: The team delves into the importance of robust SEO practices in strengthening a brand's online presence, improving organic search rankings, and providing valuable content that supports both PPC and radio initiatives. Through these discussions, The Marketing MadMen aim to illuminate the interconnected nature of these services, emphasizing a holistic marketing strategy that thoughtfully considers each element's role in achieving broader business objectives without directly selling their services. Call to Action Don't let myths hold your business back from achieving its true potential in the digital realm. Join The Marketing MadMen, Jeff Mironoff and Christopher Williams, in debunking these misconceptions and embracing the power of digital marketing. My guest is Christina Végh, who since 2020 is the first woman director of Kunsthalle Bielefeld and before that was the first woman director of Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover. Earlier on she headed the Bonner Kunstverein and worked as a curator at Kunsthalle Basel. Having been brought up in Switzerland in a cultured family, with relatives in Austria, Hungary, the former Czech Republic and the US, Christina learned early how to brigde differences and translate between languages, cultures and styles of communication. She tried herself in quite some fields, including goldsmithing, but in each of them ended up being fascinated by the historical aspects. Questioning how what happened before affects us know and shapes what is to come. She realized exhibitions with artists like Monica Bonvicini, Monika Baer, John Baldessari, Rita McBride, Haegue Yang, Charline von Heyl, Annette Kelm, James Richards, Franz Erhard Walther, Christopher Williams and Nicole Eisenman, to name but a few. She also was responsible for extensive group exhibitions, like „Where art can happen, the early years of Cal Arts“, co-curated by Philipp Kaiser – who was also a guest on this podcast - and „Made in Germany Drei“. Christina is also active on numerous committees and juries. In our conversation she talks about the different needs of a Museum vs. a Kunstverein and how art and exhibitions are related to specific places. One of her core interests, besides art and art history, was always architecture, which is the reason she felt drawn to the post at Kunsthalle Bielefeld, an architectural landmark by Philip Johnson. She reflects in depth on how she and her team will take on the task of renovating and extending the Museum in a meaningful and functional way. She speaks about the programming during the time the museum is under construction, in which there will be more projects in the city space, „meeting the city on new terms“ and including new types of audiences. She reflects on the deep need of humans to be connected with art and culture, especially in times of hardship. Christina Végh is mother of two children and lives with her family in Bielefeld, Germany. This Episode was recorded on 30 October, 2023 and published on 7 December 2023. 45 min, language english. What an honor to have Richie Faulkner on Talkin' Rock. This is the first time I've had a chance to talk to the metal guitarist. His new project is called Elegant Weapons and their debut album drops on May 26th. The band features him, Ronnie Romero on vocals, Rex Brown (Pantera) on bass, and Scott Travis (Judas Priest) on drums. The band also features different players including Christopher Williams on drums and Dave Rimmer on bass. He told me about putting the band together, why the timing was right, and getting each player. As far as getting Rex, Scott and Ronnie on the album, Richie said "I'm super fortunate to have these guys on the record." He told me about asking these legends to record with him. Speaking of Rex Brown, I asked Richie if he ever talked about joining Pantera. "To me there was only one guy who could do that, that's Zakk." He told me about never seeing the Cowboys From Hell live. That brought on an unbelievable Ouija board story. LOL He talked about the writing process in both Elegant Weapons and Judas Priest. "Rob has to connect with it" in respect to the lyrics. He gives an update on new Priest "As far as recoding it's almost done. I can't wait for you guys to hear it." Now, working on his third album with the band, he tells me about his comfort level in the band. He also talks about Andy Sneap and his ability to pull the best out of the guys. We talk about the Flying V guitar he uses. He gives me a health update after his emergency heart surgery a couple years ago. "The guitar, and touring and these records have gotten me through." "The Reaper was on stage that night." I'm glad Richie won that battle. He also fills us in on how Glenn Tipton is doing. He also told the me song that not only turned him into a music fan, but made him fall in love with guitar....and more! -Meltdown- https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/

Buying and Selling Food in the Black South

“Buying and Selling Food in the Black South” is the fourth installment in reporter Kayla Stewart's 2022 Gravy podcast season, where she explores Black foodways in the South and beyond. For this episode, she speaks to Black business owners who are trying to improve food access in Black communities. Stewart explores the history of Black-owned grocery stores and shops, and why these institutions matter in Black communities.  For centuries, Black Americans have been finding their own ways to feed themselves and their communities. From farms, to grocery stores, to corner store establishments, Black folks in the south have created their own ways to gain access to fresh food, demonstrating that one size doesn't fit all. Christopher Williams is the chef and owner of Lucille's in Houston, and founder of the nonprofit Lucille's 1913, which aims to combat food insecurity in underserved communities. In the summer of 2022, he opened Bates Allen Farm in the primarily African American community of Kendleton, Texas. The farm's mission is twofold: making fresh food more accessible, and resurrecting a farming tradition that had previously sustained the community.  Chris is part of a growing number of Black American culinary leaders looking for ways to provide fruits and vegetables to Black people located in food deserts—low-income areas where a large number of residents lacks easy access to high-quality, fresh food. In Philadelphia, PA, Farmerjawn Community Greenhouses is known for its produce offerings, and at Black Market Kentucky grocers sell healthy food to combat food apartheid. In April 2022, Christa Williams opened Uncle Willie's Grocery Store in Columbia, South Carolina. She wanted to bring quality food access to her Black community in the historic Elmwood-Cottontown area, a community that's been historically underserved. Christa's vision for the store was rooted in community, like the neighborhood groceries that used to be common in Black communities. While Black Americans make up about 40 percent of Columbia's population, there aren't many Black-owned businesses. Christa says that for that reason, her store has been a source of pride for the Black people in the city. Here, Stewart interviews Chris Williams and Christa Williams about their respective projects, exploring different approaches to the question of food access. She also speaks with Dr. Psyche Williams-Forson, Professor and Chair of the Department of American Studies at the University of Maryland College Park. Williams-Forson has written extensively about Black food and identity, most recently Eating While Black: Food Shaming and Race in America, which examines the history of food shaming in Black communities. She delves into the history of Black grocery stores, emphasizing the importance of respect for people's personal choices. Leaning into lessons from the past and having hope for a better future that makes a range of food options more accessible to Black communities across the South is the most promising way forward.
